What are people saying about Queenstown

We originally booked the "take a bus to Milford" trip, but were convinced by fellow travelers to switch to the plane ride, and oh my, was that good advice. Not only is it faster, but flying through the mountains is an amazing experience. My wife and I are both private pilots, so it was even more enjoyable for us. I was convinced that would be the highlight of the trip, until we reached the Sound. Taking a boat through the Sound, seeing the sheer volcanic cliffs dropping into the water, glimpsing the vast Pacific to the west, and then getting to fly home again was a day we won't soon forget.

Bus, Cruise, Fly... the BEST way to experience Milford Sound
Couldn't ask for a better day tour! Shu our tour driver was friendly, informative & gave us numerous photo stops along the way. The cruise in Milford Sound was spectacular - and we saw dolphins! Then flying back over the show capped mountains ended the day in a literal high!

Tristan was awesome and so knowledgeable! He had answers to any question we threw his way and really made the whole tour a fantastic experience. The tour itself offered beautiful views and incredible glimpses into various LOTR scenes! Definitely recommend :)

Drinks with new friends
The wineries were excellent. We enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Thanks to our tour guide/driver Katy we had a great time. She was very considerate of our needs (it was so cold even with the alcohol). We met new friends and laugh a lot. It was a great way to start our stay in Queenstown. Thanks Katy!

Best tour everrr
My partner and I had an amazing time at the Mt Cook tour. The vehicle was comfy and snacks and water. were provided. Our tour Danny was amazing and made our trip very engaging with his commentary. He was very friendly and accommodating. The tour itself was amazing, beautiful nature and yummy salmon. I would recommend this tour to everyone. One thing to note is that if you want to do the Tasman Glacier hike, it is very uphill and requires moderate fitness. However, there are other flatter tracks to do if you can't do this main one.

Lovely modern cruise, not as charming as TSS Earnslaw but comfortable and fast.
The farm tour was great, so many cute animals to pat, lovely place to walk around and take photos!
Afternoon tea was surprisingly good, can't get enough of the deserts!
Absolutely recommend!

Absolute 10/10 with Altitude Tours!
If you are looking to experience Milford Sound without the stress of driving the winding roads yourself, do yourself a favour and book with Altitude Tours. From start to finish, the entire day was seamless, comfortable, and spectacularly beautiful.
We traveled in a premium, modern Mercedes minibus which made a massive difference for a long day of driving. The large windows were perfect for taking in the dramatic landscapes, and the smaller group size felt incredibly personal—miles away from those massive, crowded tour buses.
A massive, special shout-out goes to our amazing tour guide, Katy. She truly made the trip unforgettable. Katy is an absolute gem—incredibly knowledgeable, warm, and her storytelling brought the history and geography of the region to life. She timed all the must-see stops perfectly so we missed the big crowds. She was also very considerate about scheduling toilet breaks, and we never felt rushed during the stops. A bonus experience happened when she spotted a group of Kea on the way back. She made a quick stop so we could safely get up close and watch these cheeky, intelligent alpine parrots check out the bus—an absolute highlight of the trip!
The cruise itself through the fiord was breathtaking, getting us right up close to crashing waterfalls. The best surprise of all was a pod of dolphins joining us alongside the boat, leaping through the wake.
If you're on the fence about which company to choose, go with Altitude Tours and cross your fingers that you get Katy as your guide. Couldn't recommend them more highly!

Loved every second of this tour!
Being able to visit Wanaka & Arrowtown on the same day was an amazing experience. Both places are breathtaking, even more in Autumn. We even got lucky with the weather.
What I really enjoyed with this tour is that we were traveling with a small van to all the spots, it was very confortable and we also had some free time in some locations as well.
Thank you to Remarkable Scenic Tours for the lovely day. I will remember it for a long time!
If you are short on time, this is the tour for you.

Queenstown boat cruise 150526
It was a cold, sunny autumn day but the welcome was very warm from pilot Tyler and barman, Ian. Blankets were privided for those on upper, outside viewing deck.
Tyler navigated the lake well and had good local knowledge that he shared along the way. Ian took drinks order and even brought drinks to us, thank you.
A very enjoyable 90 minutes and well worth the cost.

Worth it!
This is a beautiful drive through the NZ countryside. Our driver, Matt, was really great - witty, interested in our thoughts, sensitive to what would make the tour more enjoyable, enthusiastic, and very knowledgeable. I couldn’t hear much of the commentary on the cruise.

This was a very long tour but well worth it.
There were stops along the way to stretch and grab a bite to eat. When we reached Mt cook
Didn’t think we could do the hike up. Was very tiring and pretty high up there. But so glad we did the view of the glaciers was so spectacular. Took a lot of pictures. Hike down was much easier. Saw another path lake view wish I could have seen that one too. But it took us to long to climb up the mountain. When we got the bus they took us to where the trails was where we had our free time. A lot of different hikes to take. Which we ended up by a suspension bridge which was so pretty. After went to high county salmon.
The salmon was so fresh and delicious had to hurry up and eat was only there for a short time. Then went to the orchard where we bought some goodies there .
Can’t remember the drivers name. Did a really good job.We had done so many different tours but we would highly recommend this one if you want to venture out.

Was not expecting the amazing views on journey with glazed roof of coach which enhanced the journey made the time go quickly. Loved the engaging coach guide, they were amazing, so knowledgeable, entertaining and related everything to what was around at that the time ... no time to doze off. Definitely an opportunity not to miss ....

Not seeing something you are looking for?
Queenstown is surrounded by beautiful landscapes, which makes venturing beyond the town very tempting. Day trips from Queenstown make the most of its location within the mountains and near several wild national parks. Some Queenstown day trip options include cruising through quiet fjords, making the trip to New Zealand's tallest mountain, and flying above the southern Alps in a small airplane or helicopter for sky-high views.
