Along the way, admire dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, and famous landmarks like Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) and Kjeragbolten, a boulder wedged between two cliffs. At Lysebotn, a comfortable vehicle awaits to take us up Lyseveien, a mountain road with 27 hairpin bends, leading to Øygardstølen (Eagle’s Nest) for breathtaking fjord views. We continue to Byrkjedalstunet, where we enjoy traditional Norwegian food and explore handcrafted goods in a unique setting built into the mountainside. We depart from Bergen city center, watching the UNESCO World Heritage Site Bryggen from the seaside with the beautiful backdrop of the seven mountains surrounding the city, including Mount Fløyen and Mount Ulriken. Reaching the top typically takes about 2.5 hours, depending on group & conditions. The sensible pace includes time for clothing adjustments, rest & photo breaks. If conditions allow, the guide may lead you to hidden viewpoints along the way. If the weather cooperates, you’ll enjoy sweeping views from this ice-age formation rising 604 meters above the fjord. After a snack & hot drink, we begin the approximately two-hour descent to a hot lunch. Because snow and ice are common from January to March, hiking without a guide is not recommended.
