Great day exploring Hanoi
Lucky made this experience a truly spectacular one. He spoke English better than many Americans and was knowledgeable and passionate about the places we visited in Hanoi. He took pictures and even though the tour was scheduled for 4 1/2 hours, we spent a little extra time. Our hotel was not in the Okd Quarter but for $10 USD, we were picked up and returned to our hotel. Truly a great way to see many of the key sights in Hanoi.

Tower of a trip: Test your body, feed your eyes, love your planet
This is an extraordinary dip into the history and lush landscape of Norrh Vietnam’s beautiful Ninh Binh region. Our young, knowledgeable guide relished his work, sharing stories of palace intrigue around the assassination of the first king, and leading us on rickety bikes to ride through the verdant rice fields of the Trang An valley floor to visit an older Buddhist temple. After a decent buffet lunch, we boarded little metal skiffs (amid hundreds of other tourists) and the cheery oarswoman paddled the four of us for two hours through waterways lined by ragged green limestone cliffs, and through long natural rock grottoes. We capped the 13-hour day trip by climbing a pretty challenging set of 500 steps (our iPhones later confirmed it was the equivalent of 33 stories!!) to a ridge that overlooks huge rice fields and the valley floor. That route is clogged with tourists but you can take it at your own pace and you always have the option of turning back and returning to the valley if it’s not working for you. Fact is, you’re experiencing a staggeringly beautiful UNESCO World Heritage site and there is nothing else like it on the planet. The bus ride is comfortable to and fro, and the entire experience left us all - very seasoned travelers and hikers - sore, refreshed, sweaty, starry-eyed and babbling all the way back to Hanoi.

A must do when in Hanoi - this will make you love the food even more!
Fantastic experience led by our chef Emmy! We started off heading out the market to buy some of the ingrdients we needed. This was so interesting learning about the meat required, the different fruit, veg and herbs that you probably dont recognise from home and the different types of noodles. Then back to the kitchen to start cooking - and be prepared... this is not a 'watch someone else cook' kind of class - you are going to get involved. We made Pho, Bun Cha, Spring Rolls, Egg Coffee and Papaya Salad. Some things like the Spring Rolls everyone makes, other recipes you are contributing to before ending the class with a feast of all the food we had prepared - and it was all so good! Emmy was a great leader - confident, a great communicator both in her clear instructions and her information and anecdotes about where some of the ingredients came from and what we could substitute them for at home, and a great sense of humour about our cooking failures! She is clearly very passionate about her city and cooking heritage and we learnt so much from her. We all went away very full and with a cookery book of recipes including those we had made with her to try at home. Weve been home a week and already made the Bun Cha and Papaya Salad - they were so good!!!
