Kyoto at Night
I did quite a bit of research before booking Richard. I knew we were going to finish in Kyoto and wanted something that would really stick with my grown kids. Richard is a local and bilingual. He is superman as we walked our butts off and I nary saw him break a sweat or take a swig of water. He has exceptional knowledge and appeared to have prepared ahead of time for some of what he presented and answered with our kids. We were quite lucky to actually see some geisha during the walk, but doing this in the evening was simply beautiful. He showed us famous places known for the best photographs, explained the stories of the samurai and the divisions, and what led to what shrine being built. He even took us to an evening dessert in a local cafe we would have never known existed and also to a shrine that was open for only a few evenings of the year. In karmic fashion, back in the states, I happened upon a book on the Geisha and have been devouring it ever since this experience with Richard. The geisha really are a direct link to old Japan and something unique to learn about. A tour like this is not to be missed. I hope to one day return and enjoy some more sake with Richard.

A Memorable Kyoto Experience, thank you Miyake
Our tour guide, Miyake Nobumasa, was absolutely amazing and made our visit to Kyoto’s Gion district truly memorable. He shared so many fascinating historical details about each site and location we visited, giving us a deeper appreciation for the history and culture of Kyoto.
One of the highlights was seeing Geisha walking down the street. Miyake was incredibly knowledgeable about Geisha history and traditions and pointed out the trainees by the distinctive way they wear lipstick only on the bottom lip. His insights gave us a fascinating glimpse into a part of Kyoto’s culture that we might otherwise have missed.
He kept a comfortable pace throughout the tour and made sure we had opportunities to rest when appropriate. His knowledge, stories, and insights brought each location to life and gave us plenty of interesting details to think about even after the tour was over.
He also kindly took a photo of our family together at the pagoda, giving us a wonderful memory that we’ll cherish from our trip.
We highly recommend both this tour and Miyake Nobumasa as a guide. If you’re visiting Kyoto, this is a fantastic way to experience the city, learn about its history and traditions, and make lasting memories!

Best tour in Japan because of Leandra
This was by far the best tour I’ve had in Japan. Leandra, our guide, was very easy to understand as she was an English speaker. She was able to give us the history of many different things beyond the scope of the food that we were eating. She was knowledgeable about the history of Japan, and many of the places that we have been to and I felt that not only did I get a great food tour with absolutely delicious foods, but I got a wonderful seminar on Japan and it’s culture. I could not recommend this tour high enough and I think if you truly want a great tour guide, please request Leandra.

A great night exploring Fushimi Inari!
Extremely well organized and very knowledgeable tour guide. Tami was a great guide - she knew so much about this site! It was a very fun tour and great to learn about this amazing shrine. We all had fun and enjoyed the night. We would definitely do it again!

Great night in Kyoto
I was fortunate enough to have my tour be a private tour as no one else signed up. Josh was a fantastic guide and provided so much information on Japanese cuisine, Kyoto, and Japan in general. He lived in the States for a long time so his English was excellent. Highly recommend this tour-you’ll leave full and have a better appreciation for Kyoto!

One of Kind Tour and Dinner with a Charming Maiko
We had a very interesting evening. The experience started with a brief tour of the Gion district which was really helpful. The tour description said we’d have a tour but I wasn’t expecting it to be so informative and it provided good context for the highlight of the evening which was our dinner with a Maiko. Our guide was very friendly and engaging and was an excellent host and translator for us. We also enjoyed meeting the Maiko and found her to be inquisitive and charming. It was one of the most unique experiences we had on our trip having not really known much about geisha culture before. I recommend this tour as it’s hard to find anything quite like it.

Kumi is so fun. We ended...
Kumi is so fun. We ended up being the only people in the tour at the timeslot and day but she made sure we had fun and had good insight on history and Kyoto. The three izakaya/bars were are all great especially the last one. Thanks again to Kumi, you are awesome.

Bamboo forest at night? Anytime! I'll be there!
Our guide Kelle was so much fun, as he walked us through the neighborhood of the bamboo forest, sharing ghost stories along the way. All the other tourists had left for the night, so we were alone in the bamboo forest. That was so amazing! I wanted to just sit and meditate, but alas, had to keep moving. Still, our group was pretty small, and friendly, so we simply enjoyed walking around in the dark together, well, when we weren't feeling that tickle of hair standing up on the back of our necks...
