Our Kīlauea Volcano tour was truly unforgettable. We were incredibly fortunate to witness Eruption Episode 51, and our outstanding guide, Jim Carey, nimbly pivoted the tour to get us to an amazing vantage point. Watching the eruption unfold before us was a breathtaking, once-in-a-lifetime experience that we will never forget. Even without the eruption, Jim would have made this an exceptional tour. His depth and breadth of knowledge about the Big Island went far beyond the typical memorized tour-guide script. His genuine love for the island and his passion for its culture, mythology, history, and natural wonders, came through in every story he shared. The captain and the crew...

The captain and the crew were very amazing, they took really good care of us! The cataraman looked almost brand new and had lots of outdoor seating so we could enjoy the views. We had a really good time, highly recommend it! One thing that would have made the experience better was if there were good vegetarian food options.

This was a well organized, safe, enjoyable experience. Not only do you get an awesome day snorkeling, seeing sea turtles, dolphins but so much information from knowledgeable captains/ marine biologists. My family and I walked away from this experience with such a great appreciation and understanding of our beautiful ocean and marine life. A great experience!!! The staff was super knowledgeable and we even stopped to star gaze on the way up the mountain, which was amazing. Made it right in time for sunrise which was nice because it was cold so we didn’t have to stand around and wait. We were able to leave our stuff in the van as we biked down the mountain, which was nice because we just got to enjoy the ride. Stopped to take pictures and the group had a great time. Highly recommend!

Lori did a fantastic job...

Lori did a fantastic job explaining the highlights of the tour. I think the black sand beach and waterfall were my favorites. As a linguist, I appreciated Lori's discussion of the Hawaiian language and her tip about the orange dreamsicle ice cream at the Big Island Candy Company. She took us thru the lava fields of the 2018 eruption and detailed some of her personal experiences from that time. She splashed water on some of the roadside lava debris from 2018 and it still raised steam! The lava caves were fascinating--I got down with some effort but had trouble getting back up.

Kauai Cruise Ship Shore Excursion Journey to Waimea Canyon

This excursion on the island of Kaua'i was booked through Viator with Roberts Hawaii Tours. While the large bus was the most modern we were on during our time in Hawaii, and the driver/guide and tour itself were excellent, the meeting instructions given in advance left much to be desired. We were only given the time and an address for the pickup point. We left the ship as soon as we were allowed, after it docked, so we could figure out where the meeting point was, with little luck. Finally I phoned the number provided to get details. Somehow, Roberts Hawaii had been told that the ship would dock an hour later; so pickup would be an hour later. And, the description given to me of whom we were to look for was a bit vague. But, we did eventually connect. Our driver was courteous and very knowledgeable. We first stopped at the Hanapepe Valley Lookout, then at the Spouting Horn blowhole to see the water shooting into the air from the lava tube. We drove up the winding road to the Waimea Canyon State Park Lookout area. It was extremely windy and chilly this particular day, but it was definitely worth the climb and look! Mark Twain called this the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific". While it isn't as massive as the Grand Canyon in Arizona, it is breathtaking and beautiful. We could see a beautiful waterfall across the canyon from the lookout. In the winter, the colors of the canyon are more easily seen as there is less vegetation interfering with views; so we could see reds, browns and greens in the layers.

Wonderful experience

Our pilot Jake was great and so personable! It was my first time in a helicopter, so I sat quietly in the back seat. He checked on me a few times to make sure I was good. Just as advertised, we flew over Waikiki Beach, Diamondhead, famous coves, mountains, valleys, windfarms, beautiful beaches, and Pearl Harbor. Jake pointed out all the landmarks along the way. It was a wonderful experience!
