Burbot — made in Finnish — becomes most active in midwinter evenings, and local fishermen have long headed onto the ice at dusk with simple rods, bait, and patience. We will travel 20 minutes from Rovaniemi by minivan and take a short walk to reach the lake. The location is our own private place away from the crowds in the middle of the peaceful nature. The main activity is of course fishing itself, but the frozen lake also offers an ideal setting for landscape and wildlife photos. Once we reach the lake, we will teach you the basics of ice fishing and enjoy a pleasant afternoon fishing and photographing. We will also set up a campfire in traditional Lappish Teepee and enjoy some hot drinks and snacks – and of course fry our catch of the day!

We will spend a day fishing wild and strong Northern River Pike on largest river in Lapland & Finland. This species grows close to 20 kg´s on this water system. The water system is safe on the locations we operate. The guide will choose the daily destination based on season, weather, water level and activity of target species - the travelling time to final destination is approx from 15 minutes to one hour from Rovaniemi center (1 hour transportation possibility on 8 hour experiences). This is a private experience where you book the whole fishing boat to yourself. Boat is registered for 5 persons and it can take the rough weather also.

Try traditional Finnish ice fishing on a quiet winter lake. This trip is easy to join even if you’ve never ice fished before. Your professional local guide will show you how it works from start to finish: drilling the hole, setting up the gear and fishing safely on the ice. We’ll also take a warm break with a hot drink. If you catch fish, we’ll grill it by the lake for you to taste. Note: Fishing is nature-based, so the catch can’t be guaranteed.

On Lake Bodom, the largest in the Helsinki region, located just 25 minutes from central Helsinki, I invite you to an ice fishing initiation using the Pilkki, the Nordic fishing rod! Once there we will walk on the lake to find the ideal place where there is the best chance of catching fish. I will then explain how to make a hole in the ice and how to use the pilkki. Then it's up to you! You will be ready to catch lots of fish! At the end, in a Laavu, the traditional refuge, I will make a fire to be able to grill the makkara, the traditional sausages. There is also an option for vegetarians. I will also serve you a delicious glögi as well as piparri, traditional cookies.

When you expect to have a bit more snowmobiling and try some serious ice fishing, this is an adventure for you. We drive to a lake where we learn ice-fishing techniques. If we are lucky, we might get some perch and white fish. The guide serves lunch by the lake, that they cook by the open fire. And after we get rest, we start heading back to our starting point in the village Ylläsjärvi.
