The tour ran smoothly and our tour director (Bernadette) was exceptional in her communication and knowledge
From the moment we departed, we were left mesmerized by the beauty of nature
The First was definitely the highlight
The chair lift is easy to find and enjoyable
We had the famous cheese fondu at the restaurant at the top and it was tasty as expected
We took the trotter bikes down the hill and that was spectacular. Felt like it was spending a slice of time in heaven

Beautiful country, happy cows, glacial water that looks amazing. The tour guide, Angela, was great. Very friendly and informative -tour in 2 languages! The day is very long. It’s a windy bus ride up a winding mountain road, bathrooms are scarce and a lot of tourist traps. We went on a rainy day and it was difficult. Don’t recommend to do jet lagged-better once you’ve adjusted. The tour was great, my timing was bad, and I wish I knew ahead of time that it’s a full 12 hour day.

This tour is not worth it. You spend the majority of your time on a bus just getting there. Several stops were made to pick up other people and by the time you get to the mountain there really isn't time to do any of the activities which is why we went. We paid for the activities before we arrived and then we could not do them because the lines were so long by the time we arrived.
Response from Host, Sep 2024
Dear Nicole,
Thank you very much for writing this review about your experience on our Grindelwald First tour. We are very sorry to hear that the long waiting lines hindered you from fully enjoying the destination.
With a total duration of 12 hours, our day tour to Grindelwald & Interlaken is our longest day trip from Zurich. Already the journey to Interlaken is approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes each way. While we can certainly understand that you would have preferred to spend more time at the summit, there is unfortunately no possibility of shortening the journey it takes to get there.
Furthermore, for both ecological and economic reasons, combining groups enables us to offer tours not only from Zurich but also from other departure points with fewer guests, such as Lucerne, which is conveniently located along the route. We would also like to highlight that the tour schedule already includes a brief stop in Lucerne.
Mt. First is one of the main highlights of Grindelwald, attracting both tourists and locals due to the variety of activities available at the summit. This inevitably leads to long waiting lines during peak times. Unfortunately, there is no special line for preordered tickets, thus, all adventure activities are optional and not included in the tour rate. Nevertheless, at the cable car station, the screens already show the estimated waiting time for each activity, which helps our guests to plan their time more effectively.
We hope that despite the inconveniences you were still able to enjoy the views from the summit and the stunning landscapes during the bus journey. We wish you a wonderful rest of your stay in Switzerland.
Best regards,
Magdalena from Best of Switzerland Tours

The bus driver, Berta, was amazing! All those sharp turns make it challenging to drive a coach bus up there but the ride was quite smooth with no abrupt braking or stops!
Fernando and Karen were also amazing! They did a great job with telling us about the towns and the lakes we passed. We could buy activities on top of what we had already paid, however it was not clearly explained that there may be a chance we would not be able to do the activities due to the long wait times. I had bought 2 activities but was only able to use 1

Mt. First is a must-see if you come to Switzerland. The bus ride was comfortable and the sites were well narrated along the way. The hosts were helpful and kind. The stop to Interlaken was very brief. I wish we had just spent that time on Mt. First. There is a lot to do there, so check the options so you willl have tickets for the other attractions when you arrive in case they are sold out. Bring sunscreen and water!
Tamiko_B, Apr 2024
We found this activity to be over priced. It was in reality 2 bus rides, two train tickets, and a gondola ride for two.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Tamiko_B,
Thank you very much for joining our Grindelwald First - Top of Adventure and taking the time to rate your experience.
We are sorry to read that you found our tour not worth the money you paid. As clearly stated in the tour description in Viator, this is a partly guided tour catering to those guests who prefer exploring destinations with more flexibility and freedom without having to follow a certain schedule. Our guests are accompanied by the tour guide from Zurich/Lucerne to Grindelwald and in the evening for the return journey from Interlaken back to the departure point. For a fully guided tour, we recommend joining our Jungfraujoch-Top of Europe tour, which brings our guests to the highest train station in Europe.
Travelling to Mt First independently is certainly an option. However, this would require 3 ¼ hours and a minimum of 3 train changes to only reach Grindelwald. Considering that traveling alone would cost around CHF 243.60 without the Swiss Travel Pass, we believe our rate of CHF 169 provides excellent value and convenience. Not only do our guests enjoy hassle-free transportation to the destination, but also learn interesting facts about our history and culture along the way.
We hope that you enjoyed the magnificent views from Mt First and that you keep fond memories from your stay in Switzerland.
Best regards
Ambika from Best of Switzerland Tours

The activity started as planned, the check-in process was easy as they have an easy to find kiosk in the bus station. Instructions were clear and we received some tips about what places to visit first.

Had a great time! It was overall very fun and our tour guide ersilia was amazing and very helpful. Definitely recommend as the views were breathtaking

Awesome! Beautiful! Lots to do on top of mountain! Need a full day to experience it all. The gondola ride alone makes it worth it.

Love the town of Grindelwald…..I wish we could be at this town for 8 hours. It would provide more time for hiking and to see the town.

Do not take this tour.
We took the the 12 hour tour from Zurich on a Monday. The bus leaves at 8am and you do not arrive to Grindelwald until around 12:30. We had to stop in Lucerne first to pick up other people on the tour (with no restroom break). Second stop was in Interlaken for about 40 minutes to drop off some tourists on the bus who had different final destinations (not enough time to explore and enjoy the area, which is beautiful). The bus does not have any restrooms (while the tour operator told me a week before on the website chat that there were) and it took about 2.5 hours to arrive at Interlaken for the first bathroom break. Going home is the same with no bathroom break until you reach back to Zurich.
When we finally arrived to Grindenwald we were told that we had to leave by 4:15 (took a train back to Interlaken and then 5:40 bus home). This means in a 12 hour tour you are only at the final destination for 3.5 hours. The tour guides (Lars and Mario?) were also not very informative. We were not sure how to buy tickets for the activities (cart, scooter, zipline, etc) and they did not explain where each one was (the Viator and Grindelwald websites are not helpful either). They also couldn’t answer our question asking that if you take a cart or scooter down hill if the lift passes will let us go up the mountain again (meaning are the lift tickets one trip only or multiple).
They also blew off other guests questions, for example one person asked for a restaurant recommendation and they just relied “they are all good” and walked away from them.
We took the cable car to the top and found out that the zipline was sold out, glider had a 90 minute wait and cart had a 60 minute wait. In the 3.5 hour time frame that we are given it was impossible to do more than one of these activities if you wanted to do the cliff walk and take pictures at the peak level. The website and guides didn’t inform us about the time restraints beforehand and we were upset we couldn’t do all of them (or at least two). This was a Monday during the off-season so I think any day of the week would be this bad. Please note that aside for the cliff walk of the activities cost extra (which is mentioned on the website).
After doing the cliff walk and taking pictures at the peak we attempted the 60 minute wait for the cart. After an hour we gave up (since there was a least another 30 minute wait) and left the line as we were concerned about our time constraint. We went to the scooter instead which has about a 30 minute wait. We met another group from our tour on the scooter line who told us they had the same issue with all the other rides and defaulted to the scooter (I imagine the entire tour group had the same issue). We enjoyed the scooter ride (which cost 21 Francs per person) but that did not make up for missing out on all the other activities.
If you go to Grindelwald First I would recommend not doing this tour and perhaps renting a car as you would need 8 or so hours to do all of the activities based on wait times and not being rushed. Overall our tour was 12 hours and we only enjoyed about 45-60 minutes of it.
Once again, do not take this tour. I went on 7-8 Viator bookings during my 2 week Europe trip and enjoyed all of them except for this one.

Dear Chris_L,
Thank you very much for joining our Grindelwald First - Top of Adventure tour and sharing your experience with us. We highly appreciate your feedback as it helps us to constantly improve our services and to ensure our tours meet the high-quality standards we strive for.
Our tour allows our guests approx. 6 hours at leisure to explore the towns of Grindelwald & Interlaken at their own pace. The first stop is in Interlaken, as it is conveniently located along the journey. This break of nearly 45 minutes gives our guests from the 2 ½-hour journey from Zurich already behind them a chance to stretch their legs, enjoy a late breakfast, do some souvenir shopping, or go sightseeing before proceeding to Grindelwald. Unfortunately, the bathroom in the bus cannot be used due to safety reasons, as it is not allowed to be used while it is in motion. Nevertheless, there is a restroom at our meeting point in Zurich that guests can go to before starting the journey.
Our tour program doesn’t include the activities available at Mount First because, unfortunately, there is no possibility to book time slots and our guests would be disappointed if they miss any activity due to the long waiting queues. This is well described in the tour description in Viator, that only the cable cars, Cliff Walk, and train ticket are included in our rate. Any other optional activity must be booked individually.
We are very sorry to hear that you were also disappointed with the services provided by your guides. It is indeed their responsibility to provide all the necessary information or be able to answer any occurring questions related to the destination. We will certainly forward them your feedback to help them enhance their services and avoid similar incidents in the future.
Despite the inconvenience, we are very glad to read that you found Interlaken beautiful and hope that you give us a second chance on your next visit to Switzerland.
Best regards,
Ambika from Best of Switzerland Tours

Actually we are waiting for a refund from you based on out experience we did not get any service from what we paid nor did you take an action regarding that
Danielle_V, Sep 2021
This tour was a little disappointing. Our tour bus was combined with 2 other tours, which means we had a lot of stops to pick/drop off others. I feel like this wasted a lot of valuable time. The “tour guide” spoke a bit on the drive but didn’t provide much insight like you’d expect on a tour. My group was the last to be dropped off, but by that time, the tour guide had already left so we were on our own. The bus driver dropped us off near Mt First but gave us no direction on where to walk. We all got lost trying to find the entrance. Once on the mountain, we had an amazing time doing the activities. I’d recommend skipping this “tour” and just taking the train to Interlaken then to Grindelwald train station. Then buy your own tickets to Mt First. Although the drive up was beautiful, I felt like so much time was wasted just getting there and then trying to race back down to catch the bus back.
Response from Host, Sep 2021
Dear Danielle,
Thank you very much for your detailed feedback for our Grindelwald First – Top Adventure tour. It is great to hear that you enjoyed the activities on top of Mt First and we hope that your memories will last you a lifetime.
We are sorry that the tour and especially its logistics did not meet your expectations. The merging of groups allows us to offer tours not only to well-known destinations such as Jungfraujoch but also to smaller but no less interesting places with lower guest numbers - like the destination of your choice!
According to the tour description, the tour is partly guided and accompanied from Zurich to Grindelwald and from Interlaken back to Zurich. For the individual ascent and descent at Mt First, the activities on the mountain and the train ride to Interlaken, tickets and a written itinerary are already provided at check-in. We followed up your feedback with your tour guide and he confirmed that he has repeatedly referred to the booklet, which also includes an orientation map and asked if there were any questions. Nevertheless, we are sorry to hear that you have lost valuable time in finding your way around.
Like literally any destination in Switzerland, Mt First can of course be visited individually by public transport. However, since it involves many train changes and is ultimately more expensive (from CHF 256.- instead of CHF 199.- from Zurich incl. adventure activities, excl. tour guide), many guests appreciate our tour as a convenient and hassle-free way to get there.
We hope that you enjoyed your stay in Switzerland and look forward to welcoming you back on tour during your next visit!

This was a lot of fun, amazing views, zip lining, cliff walk everything I wanted to do, was easy with the tour, all tickets prepaid so skipped the long queue at the bottom of the mountain

This is the most amazing adventure through the Swiss Alps! Beautiful scenic drives and all sorts of picturesque places to see!
Gayle Y, Nov 2017
You are on your own and it isn't so easy to find your way. It's a really good excursion But the day we went the weather was bad-raining and ZERO visability. We got lost finding our way up to the top and when we finally got there, we were informed that the zip line was closed!! BUT they had just opened the Eagle flight, we were thrilled to do it even though it was Zero visability it was fun and adventurous!!
We took the the mountain carts down to the next level-also fun But were advised not to take the scooters in the rain for the third part down.
Fantastic day-Instructions not clear enough- But definitely a great day for adventurous people!!!
Jessica P, Aug 2017
The tour itself was so amazing! One of the most fun days I have ever experienced, and the views on top of Mount First, and the whole way down, are truly incredible. I went on a Saturday, so be prepared to be waiting in line for each activity. We weren't expecting this, and it was a bit of a rush to catch the bus at the end as a result. The only negative I have was that the tour company was a bit disorganized. They put the wrong meeting address on our voucher, and we were almost late for the bus from Zurich, and they forgot to give us the correct voucher to redeem for all of the activities, and as a result, we had to wait in a long line, and almost had to pay again. Other than these two instances of frustration, the actual activities are great, adventurous, and so much fun. Would 100 recommend!
Kris Lorena A, Aug 2017
My experience with First Trip Top Adventure was great! Leaving the place on time and the guide named Michelle shared information
on Switzerland which are very interesting. She is very accommodating as well. The only thing that saddened us is the fact that we were not able to try all the adventure rides because of the long queue in the First Flyer which took us around two hours. But it is really worth the wait! We only wish though that we had longer hours.
Robb S, Jun 2017
This is a new tour and I can't put into words how great of an experience this was! From the organization, to the transportation, to the activities, and most important to the views, everything was top notch. A day I will certainly never forget! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! This is good for all ages and certainly need to be some sort of dare devil in you!
