Nice bikes but to visit Versailles, still need to walk a lot.

Everything about the rental went fine. The bikes were nice and well equipped. The rental place was helpful. The estate is huge so it’s nice to have bikes to cut down on some of the walking. The only problem is that the places to park and lock the bikes are few and not near the gate entrances. You still have to walk a lot and you will need to pay extra just to walk through the gardens from the bike parking area to get to the chateau entrance On days when they play music over a loudspeaker, they have a few of the smaller fountains running, not even the main ones and that was disappointing after paying just to walk through to the main entrance of the chateau. The Hamlet entrance was closed where you can park the bikes and they asked that you walk to the Petit Trianon entrance and walk inside to the Hamlet which is quite a long walk.

Huge Deposit Made the Process Challenging

Versailles was fun enough to visit, but renting the bikes didn’t add much to the experience other than a short ride through the forest near Marie Antoinette’s estate. The issue was that it took 45 minutes to rent the bikes (with the signing of forms and bank issues and things) and then each bike required a huge 800 Euro deposit, totaling a credit card hold of $4,300 USD for our family of five!!!! Our bank thought this was fraud, of course, and so we had to make calls to get it processed. Riding around town was okay enough, but who wouldn’t be worried about your bikes being stolen when they are locked to a some random fence in town while you are inside the palace and gardens (which don’t allow bikes) for several hours. In the end, having the bikes took a lot of time (to drop off as well), added loads of stress, and didn’t bring much extra to our visit. We wouldn’t recommend, though maybe some would enjoy the experience enough to make the hassle worth it.

    Perfect way to experience Versailles

Great experience! I reserved ahead of time and the bikes were ready when we arrived. Laure was super friendly and helpful. The bikes were in good condition and were a great way to see the park, the grand canal, and Petite Trianon before heading to the Palace

We were late to our appointment as we overslept due to jet lag from just arriving from California. We then got lost in the Paris metro which made us later. But we were greeted friendly and warmly at the bike rental shop. We were given maps of the area and directions as we decided to tour on our own We had a fantastic time. We biked all through the gardens of Versailles and the charming town where we ate and stopped for coffee and pastries. They supply locks for the bikes which was great. We will definitely be back some day Thank you for a wonderful day Tony S.
