This was the highlight of our Bali trip. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We learned some Balinese and had great laughs. The dishes were superb - just like what you would get at a Balinese restaurant or food vendor.
A great inter-generational family business that we were very happy to support. For USD25, this was a bargain and I would recommend it wholeheartedly.

cooking classes is not in city center Ubad. It is about a half hour to 40 minute drive outside the city. You only get to go to the market if you do the morning cooking class. The food is good and there is a lot of it.

A brilliant morning with Yogi our guide / cooking master. Loved our time at the market seeing and trying fruits completely new to me and the Balinese cakes. The cooking session was well organised and great fun. Would highly recommend.

Highly recommended! The tour was hosted by friendly staff that spoke great English. The market tour was very interesting. I tried many fruits that I had never seen before. The cooking did not require any prior experience and the final meal was delicious! Great accommodation for dietary needs too. Well worth it if you love new food and time in the kitchen. They even provided a recipe list for recreating the meals back at home! Take this class early in your trip so that you know what the dishes taste like when ordering later on in restaurants.

Alright, get ready for a market where you can taste local fruit, see how people live, and cook some awesome food! Our teacher was super helpful, and I loved all the Balinese dishes we made. I liked all the food, and I made mine with not much spice. But my group loves it hot, so theirs was fiery! If you're in Kuta, it's a bit of a drive, but I totally recommend it. Everyone was so nice. I love Balinese cooking with tons of ingredients and not much seasoning. You really don't need a ton of salt to make things taste great. You'll each have your own cooking station, but you'll need to team up to mix and make the dishes.

This was one of the best experiences we did in Bali.
The morning market tour was interesting, with trying different fruits and vegetables, and sweets. The guide Wayan, was very chatty and explained a lot about the food, cooking, heritige, religion and just generally local knowledge.
We then went to the cooking site where we learned what we were cooking and all the ingredients, tasted and smelled them and then got down to cooking. They also assessed spice level, at which we went with 'tourist spicy'.
The cooking host (I'm sorry I forgot her name), was engaging, funny and very attentive to teach, talk and help our group and ultimately we made a load of extremely tasty food. Doggy bags were provided as there was A LOT of food.
Not only was this just a lovely way to spend a day, it was excellent value for money (based purely on the food alone). I can also say that I will use some of the hints and techniques in my everyday cooking.
Genuinely can't recommend this class enough.

A wonderful, fun and informative introduction to Balinese cooking, with dishes we shall be making at home. Yogi, our cooking teacher and his team were funny, warm and welcoming. Our driver, Harry collected us in Ubud and drove north of the city to a very local market where he taught us about local fruits which we got to try, spices, vegetables and cakes, and saw the flower temple offerings being assembled. After that we were taken to rice fields with a fabulous view of the volcano in the background and then on to the school. All of the ingredients are provided with step by step guidance by Yogi on preparation and cooking which you do with your partner and then the pleasure of eating all of the dishes you have prepared with the other members of the group over a convivial lunch. Really super way to experience Balinese cuisine, culture and hospitality. Highly recommended.

Enjoyed the experience of cooking many local dishes with the humourous and friendly instructor, Yogi. The meals cooked turned out to be very delicious, in no small part contributed by the ingredients, guidance, and recipe. We also enjoyed the trip to the local market and the sampling of local fruits and pastries. Great experience overall!

We had an amazing experience throughout the entire cooking class. The initial visit to the market and the rice paddies were great. The cooking class itself was so, so engaging and all the foods (so much food!) that we cooked were so, so tasty.
All the staff and the driver were so, so friendly too- we felt really at home. Highly recommend this experience. Thank you so much!

My husband and I loved our class. We made 9 different dishes and were walked through the process. There’s a veg vs non veg option. We got to eat everything at the end, and anything left we were given to option to pack it up to take back to the hotel. This was truly a great experience

The end product (the dishes) were some of the best food we've ever eaten.
Also our chef/host was extremely friendly, warm, welcoming, knowledgeable and funny. We left knowing loads about Balinese cooking but also tonnes about Balinese culture thanks to Gus who loved sharing his knowledge with us.
It was the absolute highlight of our trip. We knew we'd enjoy it but we had no idea it would be so special. This was a day we won't forget

I never write reviews but felt compelled to after this experience. We were never told that there was an additional 50 MINUTE drive from the pick-up location (to some random region of Bali). They never even picked us up from our accommodation (as stated in booking), but told us to meet them at Ubud Palace and then crammed us in a car for a long drive 50 minute drive.
And then we were barely able to cook (literally everything is prepped for you), barely able to hear the instructor (women prepping the food were having loud conversations).
On top of this, when we requested the recipes afterwards they ignored our message.
Also when making the Mie Goreng (fried noodles) the instructor poured a bottle of water into everyone’s pan… that’s not fried noodles. They did not taste good.

The cooking class was one of our favourite experiences in Bali. Many dishes were made, and there were plenty of stations so everyone could feel “hands on”. The food was fresh and delicious. We look forward to using these recipes at home!

We had an amazing time in the Subak cooking class. Softly spoken young man Tata picked us at Ubud centre and took us to a market tour explaining about spices, fruits, vegetables and sweets and then to a paddy field for photos. He took us to a Balinese home which was set up efficiency as a cooking school. Chef Yogi our teacher is very thorough and explained every step clearly. We grouped as couple and cooked nine dishes under the watchful eye of yogi and the friendly kitchen staff ladies. The whole experience went flawlessly and we thoroughly enjoyed a sumptuous meal. It was so fresh and tasty, nothing like we had outside. Tata the guide dropped us at Ubud centre while clearing our questions about the food and culture. Thankyou for giving the opportunity and I will recommend Subak cooking class to anyone who like to learn Balinese cooking or like to enjoy real Balinese food.

I was so full by the time we were done. I really enjoyed the class and learning how to prepare many different dishes.

Amazing experience! Would highly recommend! From the guide to the market tour where we got to try local foods to the actual cooking experience we had so much fun and learned a lot. The recipes were tasty and there was so much food! We did all the fun parts of cooking with excellent guidance and no clean up!

We really enjoyed the whole experience. The market was entertaining and an eye opener. The rice filed was lovely but the highlight was as the cookery school itself. Very enjoyable and informative and a really good lunch at the end of it. The only stopping it being 5 stars was our transfer from Nusa Dua. The driver was, even by Balinese standards, a bit scary and on the way back he offered to take us on the toll road but said we’d have to pay idr 15,000 even though when we got there it was 14,000 and then he didn’t have the right change so we ended up paying 20,000.

Me and a friend went there and we were mixed together with 4 other people. It still felt very personal even though we were cooking all at one table, each with his own stove. The hosts were super friendly and explained everything well. We learned a lot about balinese ingredients and prepared the 9 recipes.
