This was one of the best experiences I have had while traveling. There was so much tradition embedded in the session and the cooking experience was amazing. The flavors of the food were truly fantastic and knowing I had made this traditional Balinese cuisine was a bonus.

AMAZING!!!!

I've visited Bali for the last 20 years and this is by far the best activity I have done! Don't miss out on the extraordinary hospitality of this family run cooking class. We were taken to the local market and immersed into the culture and flavours of Bali. Then we were welcomed into the family home and cooked up the most delicious 5 course meal all made with very simple and fresh ingredients. the best part was it is totally reproducible at home.i have made the sambal twice since coming back. Our hosts were lovely and kept us laughing the whole day. I cannot recommend this activity enough!!

More than a cooking class

I would totally recommend this cooking class! Besides the actual cooking, they told me about their culture and the way they live. The total Balinese experience!

My best ever cooking class

This was an amazing experience. I admit I had chef to myself, but his attention to detail, experience as a professional chef was evident from the moment we met. I got to quiz him about little things associated with the food we prepared, its origin and its place in Balinese culture. Having the class at his home provided the opportunity to see and have explained a true Balinese Home. A must do.

Excellent and informative

This tour was my favourite on my trip to Bali. It was great fun! If you are going to Ubud, you have to do this class. It started with a tour of the local night market and the family's beautiful property, then there was coffee and some sweets, and then the cooking. It was so interesting, fun, informative and DELICIOUS. I will definitely use what I learnt at home :) My friends are in for a treat at our next potluck!!

Fantastic experience!

This was so interesting and well run. The trip to the market was great to see all the unusual foods and stalls. Everything was well explained and you could ask many questions. It was lovely to be welcomed into his home and see traditional Balinese life. The recipes were delicious and fun to cook. I would highly recommend this trip. No particular cookery experience required.

One of the highlights of our trip to Bali. The class was great. We learned about ingredients that went into typical Balinese cuisine and we made a meal consisting of five courses. What makes this class unique is that the chef/instructor, Nyoman Mahendra, holds it at his home compound that he shares with 40 extended family members. It was a bonus to get insight as to how Balinese people live. Needless to say, this class is highly recommended.

This was a fantastic trip from start to finish and a highlight of my stay in Bali. Nyoman, the chef took me to the local market in the early evening to tell me about their local produce and the food on offer to the locals at the market. We then went to his home where he made me feel very welcome and we cooked some amazing food. Thank you!

This class was one of the highlights of our trip! Nyoman, our chef took us to the local market and gave us a proper tour. We learned so much about the culture and local goodies for sale that otherwise, we would have not recognized. Nyoman really loves what he does! He was so fun and passionate and full of information! After our tour of the market he took us back to his home where he gave us a tour of the grounds and introduced us to his family and pet monkey who they rescued! From there we made our way to their very nice kitchen equipped with about 12 cooking stations. We were lucky to have him all to ourselves however. Nyoman was totally hands off. While he guided us through every step, he let us do it all. We cooked 5 different dishes, all of which were delicious!!!! This is really the best way to get to know Bali, its flavors, its culture, and its people! Your new skills and written recipes are the ultimate souvenire to bring home! Can't wait to cook for all of our friends.

This cooking class was absolutely mazing! Having the cooking school within his family compound creates a special experience. Definitely do the tour in the morning with the market, you get to go to a local, non-touristy market which amplifies the experience.

I went to this cooking class with a friend and we both really enjoyed it. The tour started with a trip to a local market where our guide explained the different spices and vegetables used in Balinese cooking. There was a local restaurant selling pieces cut from a freshly cooked suckling pig! The cooking class itself was held in an open air kitchen in a beautiful garden. It was very cool and clean. We had great fun with the hands on cooking and the food was just superb! This is an excellent tour and i have no hesitation in recommending it.
