Must see sunrise at Mount Batur. Our guide Nopia was so great. Very patient and kind and knowledgeable. After a beautiful view and rough decent down, a relaxing time at the hot springs feels just right. A bit crowded and no separation of women’s and men’s changing area made it a little bit uncomfortable but you make due. Overall great experience.

Amazing trip! 10/10, would absolutely recommend. The views alone make it completely worth it.
Our driver, Ray, and mountain guide, Ketur, were both incredibly knowledgeable and kind. Ketur even went above and beyond by helping carry my bag up the mountain.
We traveled from Nusa Dua, with pickup around 1:15 a.m. and returned home by about 1 p.m.
Our guide took us up the shortest—but steepest—route, totaling around 3.6 miles. I’d rate this trail as quite challenging, as it remains steep the entire way with little to no leveling out. The descent is also difficult due to loose lava rocks and gravel, which can make footing slippery.
One tip: if you’re a picky eater, consider bringing your own snacks or breakfast for the summit. The provided meal included hard-boiled eggs, snake fruit, and a banana sandwich.

We're 50+ couple with an adequate for our age fitness level. It was a very challenging and also the most rewarding hike for myself and my wife. People bring their hike jacket as it got chilly up there. People also need comfortable hiking footwear to be able to go over a rough and slippery in the night solid lava. Water and walking stick provided by the tour organization, however we brought our own larger bottles with water. Boiled egg and banana sandwich for a breakfast at the summit was very nice but may be not an appropriate for a people with different diet requirements. People with health issues and poor fitness can hire a motorcycle or 4x4 car for a group and still enjoy some walking experience as final part to the summit require tourists to climb for 10 to 20 minutes. For those, who overestimated their physical abilities and struggle to climb local people were able to organize help and transport them on the motorcycle.
The climb up to the Mt Batur took 2.5 hours and around 1.5 hrs descent.
One of the best experiences in my life.

Very well organized. Our driver Wira was punctual and didn’t rush us at the stops at the hot springs and plantation after our hike. Our tour guide Wajib was patient and managed to make a very crowded attraction feel personalized and took amazing photos. I’d recommend proper footwear and a light layer for the top as it’s a bit chilly. Wonderful experience overall highly recommended.

I did this hike on 31st Oct and I broke my wrist coming down to the mountain on old lava gravel which is extremely slippery if you don’t have experience as a hiker I advise you not to do it. People are sliding all over the place even the guides. Going up is difficult you need a-lot of breaks it is not easy there is a lot of climbing involved the guide has to help you. It takes at least 2 hours or more to go up the mountain. I would advise you to go for the jeep option. The lava gravel is very slippery!! Everyone was sliding and trying to stop themselves falling mine ended with a fracture. I went to a hospital in Bali and they wanted to operate I didn’t trust the advice and decided to go back home for medical support luckily I did as I didn’t need an operation only a plaster cast so I’m sure it was to make money!! Be mindful don’t end up cutting your holiday like I did it could be horribly worse I’ve seen also reviews one lady broke their leg on this mountain if you don’t have experience I’d advise you not to do it. The positive from the hike is that the guides are wonderful they are so kind and supportive but they can’t stop you from falling!!!

We had a great time on the hike. It was an early start but we were able to sort of sleep in the car right there. The views were really beautiful and crazy to be above the clouds. I would say that this is not for all skill levels just because there is some pretty steep biking and then steep downhill or died with great who helped get us up and then helped get us down safely as well. we chose the hot spring options, which was nice to relax, and after a hard hike and then we also did the optional coffee plantation, which was pretty cool to see. I would take off .5 points simply for the fact that our driver was almost 30 minutes late in the morning, and if we were in a bigger group with less ability to move fast, we wouldn’t have made it to the top for sunrise, but we were able to make it in time due to our fitness levels. It just sucked being that early and having to wake up earlier than necessary with someone being late cause we would’ve appreciated the sleep being 2 AM. Other than that, our driver was amazing, super friendly, and all the staff interacted with were great

This hike is a great small challenge with a steep incline to the summit. A certain level of fitness is required however this is an enjoyable trek with amazing views at the top. Whilst the breakfast offered wasn’t things I like to eat it was a large breakfast offering after a good hour or so activity! We also had the option to go to a coffee plantation which is something I highly recommend, seeing how the coffee is made, tasting different teas and coffee and even getting to play with a Luwak! I think this would be a great activity to add to the list whilst in Bali!

The overall experience was such an enthralling and entertaining one, but what made it even better were the people that helped us on the way to the peak of the mountain. Our driver, Martin, arrived on time and was very eager and motivated to take us despite the early hour. His car was clean and comfortable, and the entire ride up to the mountain was smooth and relaxing. He had aircon, played music, and was great at conversation. Such a great guy! Also, our guide up the mountain, Goday, was also very nice and accompanying, making jokes and laughing the whole way. Both were very helpful and should be treated with the utmost kindness. Thank you Martin and Goday for being so great to us, would definitely recommend. Also the sunrise was beautiful too.

Unbelievable views at the top. Our driver was prompt with the hotel pick-up, and the team served us coffee/tea before we started the hike. Our guide was sweet and accommodating to everyone's pace, and we even got to make some friends - the other people in our group - along the way. We arrived at the top of the mountain before the sunrise began so we could see it from the very beginning. At that point, the guides served us breakfast and coffee/tea/hot chocolate. We spent 1-2 hours on the mountain after sunrise walking around, seeing monkeys, and taking pictures! Our guide took AMAZING pictures, even billowing the volcanic steam to make our photos look cool. Professional and welcoming staff. Felt very safe along the way - even as two women getting picked up from our hotel at 2 am!!

We understand your disappointment in not reaching the summit for sunrise, and we’d like to clarify the situation surrounding your trip:
You booked a shared tour, which accommodates up to 5 people per group. Your group had 5 participants in total. From pick-up until reaching the base camp, everything went smoothly. After about 30 minutes of hiking, two members of the group felt unfit to continue and decided to return to the base camp. Since they were still close to the starting point, they were able to find their way back and return to the car without issue.
The remaining three participants continued the hike with the guide. Around halfway up the mountain, you and another guest also decided not to continue. At that time, the guide informed you to stay in place and wait for him to return after taking the remaining guest to the summit. However, you opted to find your own way down using Google Maps. When the guide returned, he couldn’t locate you. Our team searched thoroughly, and eventually, our driver found you on the main road and took you to the hot spring.
Regarding the guide: he is a trained professional and speaks English well. He followed protocol during the hike.
Concerning the driver: after speaking with him, we can confirm he did not ask for extra money for petrol. He simply requested small change to help pay for the hot spring entrance. Our driver also speaks English well.
We believe there may have been a misunderstanding when you arrived at the hot spring alone. It’s possible someone there asked for additional money (perhaps for the entrance or transportation), which led to your impression that the guide and driver were rude or unprofessional.
Shared tours are more challenging to manage when guests are unfit to complete the hike, as one guide must attend to the entire group. Had you booked a private tour, we could have accommodated changes more easily to suit your pace.

Spectacular sunrise views from the top make the pain worth it. Make sure you have a good set of trekking shoes, you’ll thank me later.
The only nitpick I have is that the guide was repeatedly talking about the motorcycle option - that one can take a bike to the top rather than doing the hike. Even though he always clarified he is not trying to ‘sell’ it, his motivations were pretty clear.
