Itinerary

Select a morning or afternoon departure, and after pickup from your Santorini hotel, settle inside your private, air-conditioned minivan with your guide.

Then, admire Santorini’s dramatic scenery as you head to Mt. Profitis Ilias, the island’s highest peak. Standing 1,853 feet (567 meters) high, this barren mountain is home to a monastery of the same name.

Drive to the summit and, after admiring the stone-built, 18th-century monastery, marvel at the bird’s-eye views over the island. Gaze out at the towns of Fira and Oia sprinkled like icing sugar on the volcanic landscapes, and absorb the views of the steep coastal cliffs rearing from the caldera.

Next, travel northward through rocky vineyards and traditional villages to Oia, perhaps the jewel in Santorini’s crown. Perched on the island’s northernmost tip, this pretty village features narrow alleyways and whitewashed houses, shops, bars, and hotels tiered into the cliffside.

Stroll the cobbled lanes with your guide as you learn about its history, and hear how crowds flock here in summer to experience the famously beautiful sunsets.

Discover Oia’s tiny shops selling hand-made ceramics, jewelry and paintings, and enjoy some free time to browse for souvenirs (own expense).

Then, stop at a cliffside to admire the stunning views over to Fira to the south and across the caldera, viewing the islands of Thirasia and Nea and Palea Kameni that were formed by volcanic eruptions over two millennia ago.

Afterward, continue to Fira, Santorini’s picture-perfect capital, whose bright-white buildings cascade down the black cliffs. Get some free time here to shop and stroll independently, perhaps relaxing over coffee or scouting out gifts (own expense).
