My 1st dog sledding and it did not disappoint.
Beautiful resort with a nice adventure center. Easy to follow instructions on driving the sleigh. After the trip we were offered hot juice and cookies by a fire. I wish o had booked other excursions with this tour operator. Lifetime memories were made to hold and cherish for a lifetime.

This was a very well-run activity. I was staying in Rovaniemi, not at Apukka Resort itself, but they have a shuttle bus that was on time, very comfortable and very easy to find. If you don’t have warm, waterproof gear they give you insulated overalls. You then get a short but very adequate lesson on sleigh-driving - mushing - and get taken straight into the dog yards, where the trains of dogs are hooked up and going crazy with excitement at the chance to go for a run. It is very noisy! But then as soon as each sled gets moving the dogs are silent, just very happily trotting along. It is quite gorgeous. The route is about 8km and takes maybe an hour, including stops to change drivers and take photos. It is such good fun that of course one would like the tour to last longer, but the dogs do this x3 per day and so it is fair enough that the active part of this activity is only about an hour. After you get back you get a chance to pat the now-relaxed dogs, and then the guidestake you into one of the tee-pee structures for hot lingonberry juice and a chat about dog-sledding. It was a very fun way to spend a morning and I recommend it. If you want to do a much longer tour then I assume you need to make special arrangements and perhaps with another company, but for an ‘experience’ this was a lovely way to spend effectively a half-day. Also, the dogs here were obviously well cared-for and happy, in fact it seems that Apukka receives dogs rescued from less-reputable operators. That’s a big pointer in their favour. Recommended.

Excellent , clothes included, dogs were well looked after, didn’t feel rushed afterwards , got to pet and hold young huskeys and warm up in front of the fire, actual ride was good but we had really slow dogs at the front so spent most of the ride braking didn’t get much speed!

The experience was cancelled at the time of the event due to ‘heat’. Whilst we understood the reason, the lack of prior communication was unacceptable given the forecast & conditions the day before. Activities for the rest of the day had been cancelled in advance apparently. The alternative option offered was to ‘see the dogs’ - a very expensive dog viewing in the scheme of things.

So fun! This was a one of a kind experience. Highly recommend. The only downside was the snow was soft so our ride was cut (very) short, wish we would have known about this risk beforehand. Do not recommend booking if it is warmer weather.

The huskies are cared for by a family run company who love their dogs. It was a pleasure to hear all the details about how they train and maintain the dog teams.

We learned a lot about the huskies from the son of the owner of a major portion of the huskies on site. The family coops with the resort. Good experience! Didn’t feel rushed and the huskies seem healthy and well cared for!

Husky ride was fun and joyful. The ride could be longer, but to get to know how it works it was quite enough. It was very cold (-30) so highly recommend to take on extra overalls, gloves and boots with at least 2 pairs of warm socks.
Please come at least 30 min before your tour so you could have enough time to prepare and take on overalls, boots etc..
As the group was quite big it took some extra time to register all the people, and someone were still changing it took some extra time for other to wait, which wasn’t very cozy.

I have left only a 3 star review for one reason which I will come to later. But first let me say that everything was great to start with, lovely efficient staff, clean winter clothing given, all great. But then just as we were divided into groups at the kennels, we were greeted by another staff member, whose name I unfortunately can’t remember. He was nice enough to us but he was very rough with the dogs and you could see some of them cowering as he passed. Other staff members were there and while they didn’t question his behaviour they showed the dogs affection and respect. We then went on the safari and it was all great and he was a good host to us but then again back at the kennels he was rough with the dogs. And very unnecessarily so, hitting them on the nose or tops of their heads for reasons I couldn’t figure out, very roughly shoving them around to put on or off harnesses, etc. It really took the shine off the experience for me. I am an animal lover and I had booked this trip because it had good reviews about the dogs and their welfare but I would question that now. Definitely left a bad taste.

I have to say that the experience on the sleds with the huskies and the scenery on the ride was spectacular. I give it a 1 because the management on their part prior to the tour was terrible, the pick up in Santa Claus Village was included and they went before the stipulated time and left without even calling, we were waiting and on top of that we had to pay for a taxi for 35 euros at our own expense to the Appuka resort. Then we talked to them and they pretended not to know anything.

Overall a very fun experience! I love that they included pick up and drop off. Pickup point address given with confirmation was unclear, but there is a post in the city center by the Santa building that says “Apukka”, and you meet there for pickup. Winter gear is provided, you get to play with the dogs afterwards, and a hot drink is ready for you when you finish your ride!

This was such a wonderful experience! There were clear guidelines on how to ride the huskies, and our guide Timo was very informative. The huskies were adorable, extremely fast and as excited as us for the ride. After the awesome ride, we had a nice chat with Timo while enjoying some warm berry juice and cookies. The husky ride is a must within your nordic experience!!

It was an amazing experience.
Everything was super good organized. They picked me up from their offices in Rovaniemi and took me to the Apukka resort. There they gave me the uniform and boots, which I have to say that kept me super warm.
Afterwards they took us to the husky farm and there they gave us instructions about the husky ride and we then started with the activity. It was really beautiful and a unique experience for me. The owners were also very kind and nice with us. In the end we got to take pictures and pet the huskies, that love it.

Amazing Husky farm with adorable puppies. The guides were great and the scenery breathtaking!
