    Worthwhile Māori culture experience

    Gregory_D, Mar 2026
We greatly appreciated the opportunity to get a climpse of Māori culture. The culture show was a bit touristic but well done and entertaining, while the school that teaches Māori arts and crafts to young Māori and the associated shop were particularly interesting and appealing. We were pleasantly surprised by the traditional Māori meal served in the cafeteria, which was ample and delicious.

Tēnā koe (hello), Thanks for sharing your thoughts, really appreciate you taking the time. Glad to hear you enjoyed getting a glimpse into Māori culture, that’s what we hope people take away when they visit. Awesome that you found the cultural performance entertaining, even if it felt a bit touristic at times. We try to strike that balance so it’s engaging while still staying true to our traditions. Really cool to hear the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute stood out for you too, it’s a special place where our tauira (students) keep these important skills alive. Also great to know you enjoyed the kai (food), especially the traditional Māori meal. Plenty and tasty is exactly what we aim for. Thanks again for coming through and sharing your experience. Kia pai te rā (have a nice day)

Amazing Geyser & Kiwi Moment, but Very Crowded Experience

    Bea_R, Feb 2026
This was another interesting cultural experience with some real highlights. The geyser was absolutely incredible — it erupted for around 20 minutes, which was truly impressive and something I won’t forget. I also loved seeing the kiwi birds. Even though I only spotted one for a brief second, it was still very special and exciting. The cultural dances, however, felt quite commercial compared to other experiences. There were so many people that it was hard to see properly, and in almost every photo there were phones held up in front of the view, which took away a bit from the atmosphere. Overall, still a memorable experience, especially because of the geyser and the kiwi encounter, but the large crowds made it less personal.

    Response from Host, Feb 2026

tēnā koe (hello), Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us, we really appreciate it. We are so glad the geyser eruption left such a strong impression, when Pōhutu puts on a long display like that it really is something special. Great to hear you also managed to catch a glimpse of one of our kiwi. We’re sorry to hear that the crowds made the cultural performance feel less personal for you. Our performances can be busy at certain times, and we understand how that can affect the viewing experience. Your feedback is helpful and we will continue looking at ways to make the experience more comfortable and enjoyable for everyone. Thank you again for visiting and for sharing both the highlights and the areas we can improve on. We hope to welcome you back again in the future for an even better visit. kia pai te rā (have a nice day)

Tēnā koe (hello), Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us. It's great to hear you enjoyed your time with the cultural performance and that Pat looked after your group so well. He's all about making sure everyone feels comfortable while still having a good time, so we’ll be sure to pass this on to him. Sounds like you caught a pretty special moment too with the geyser going off and getting to see our baby kiwi Manawa. Always a cool experience for our manuhiri (visitors).
