Surrounded by the Whakarewarewa Forest are a collection of hand-crafted cedar hot tubs in which you can soak your aches and stress away. With pretty views overlooking the Puarenga Stream, each hot tub can accommodate up to six people, but this is a private package.

This was a pretty awesome experience. The hot tubs are close to each other but there are straw/bamboo walls to provide some privacy. Towels, showers and small lockers are provided.

Absolutely worth every bit. Amazing way to end the day, start the day, or just include in the day. Forest is beautiful/ stunning, hot tubs are great, cold plunge is effing cold, and the staff are fabulous- super friendly and nice, and help make the experience. Will absolutely be back.

What a great experience, This was probably one of the best activities we did on this trip especially after hiking! Your ordered drinks are waiting for you when you get to your tub. The tub surroundings are beautifully landscaped for privacy. Hop in and start relaxing. Jump in the cold pool plunge when you get too hot or at the end of your 45 mins. There are individual showers to use after. All in all it was a wonderful experience. If we lived here I would come at least once a month!

We arrived and checked in, the reception attendant gives you a bunch of instructions without any printouts so as you feel a bit flustered on arrival because there are a lot of people in the check in area and try to orient yourself, you kind of have to figure out what to do when you get a locker key because what she told me was a blur.
After we changed we walked over to our hot tub and it was nothing really like the photos. You see the path, the dividers between tubs don't create privacy, some of the plants were dried and dead, spars so you can see and hear others sitting in their tubs, ours was still occupied by someone who ran their time longer so we were suppose to have 45 min but we only had 30 min because of the other people. They have a light based timer that alerts you when your time is up. That wasn't as big of a problem because I couldn't sit in the hot tab for that long anyways but I didn't see them clean the area between us at all, neither did my partner which makes me wonder how clean are these hot tubs and the water if they only clean maybe once a day when every 45 min someone else gets in. I could smell some chlorine (you only smell chlorine supposedly when someone pees in chlorine water btw) so the whole concept of magical, rainforest hot springs hot tubs is more of a gimmick in my opinion than any real fresh, healthy, magical hot springs experience. During the day you see everything. Again, nothing at all like the photo that advertises the place.
For anyone who is hesitant with public pools or tubs I honestly would not recommend it. I don't like to sit in chlorine water because it's unhealthy to absorb all of that plus potential for bacteria since the water is warm, lower temp than standard hot tub...I expected maybe that the water was naturally flowing in and out and had some self cleaning properties. There was a filter in these wooden tubs but again, didn't feel super clean. It was pretty, you could hear birds sing and looked into the distance at all of the plants but just like with many things in NZ, very "tourist trap like". Instead look for real hot springs in nature, perhaps they have it, couple of beached in North Island in the Coromandel area do have them. Go find that instead.

We do provide every group with a printed map sheet detailing the hot tub experience, including instructions and information about our water, so we’re sorry if this wasn’t clear on arrival. Our water comes from a fresh aquifer spring high in the forest and is treated to NZ Pool Water Quality Standards using our Enviroswim system. It has minimal chemicals and only 0.25ppm of chlorine, which is half the level of municipal drinking water. This ensures it’s gentle on both our bathers and the environment. Each tub is continuously filtered and refreshed during your soak, and the water is only for your group — it never flows from tub to tub. Staff also remove any forest leaves or debris between sessions to maintain cleanliness.
We take pride in creating a tranquil, forest-adjacent setting and understand that this type of experience isn’t for everyone. We hope this helps clarify how our hot tubs are maintained.

First of all, it is worth the price or maybe more than what is expected. The staff are so acommodating. The place is nice and clean. Most of all the hot tub experience is very relaxing, soothing to the tired muscles and the place where the secret tubs are located is very serene and close to nature.

We loved our experience! Nico was an incredibly knowledgeable guide and answered all of our questions. We got to see all three resident kiwis during the tour and we felt very lucky as Nico said most groups only see one or two. The travel in the air conditioned van from the Agrodome to the Hatchery was easy and comfortable. And we weren’t sure but the tour is entirely indoors, which was nice on a warm day. Overall, it was well worth the price we paid and would recommend it to any traveler visiting Rotorua!

The day we went it was glorious sunshine but the hot tub experience didn’t disappoint.
Check in was straightforward and everything was explained, the hot tub was very secluded and private and a great place to enjoy a beer.

Being from Queensland there isn’t anything really like this, it has always been on my bucket list to do, and secret spots really out did themselves by making my dreams come true, my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed the cold plunge as it was extra warm when getting back into the hot tub!!

We generally find, with the temperature, that 45 minutes is enough for most guests, however guests are welcome to book a double session or continue to relax in our free Shinny Dip foot hot tubs.
