It was absolutely amzing! Our tour guide Daniel was so nice. We had some delicious sweet corn, learnt about great Mouri culture. It was such an amazing experience.

This tour has many options for all different experiences. Our tour guide Wawi was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. He spoke with confidence well beyond his years, and made us feel welcome throughout.
It was great to have access to the Geysers as well.
Well worth adding on the performance if time.

Our guide was a knowledgeable member of a local tribe. He provided insight to the history and traditions of the village and dazzled us with their complex language. It was one of the highlights of our trip.

Great experience. It was so fascinating learning about Maori and Polynesian culture in modern day New Zealand. The geysers were cool too.

Interesting thermal village with some villagers still living site. Excellent viewing platform for Pohotu Geyser

It’s a real Māori village, so interesting to find out about how the village came about and how it operates as a complete community

Very informative, loved the fack they celebrate their war heros at the gateway, cultural enrichment and understanding of the Maori family/community lifestyle... take dollar coins tho for the penny divers... lovely experience. Our guide was patient, funny and engaging, loved it and well worth it x

It was OK, expected more of culture and less of hot springs. The corn epwas a great touch. Guide was fine and very knowledgeable.

We had local guide, Philip, take us around the Mauri village. He was a fantastic source of knowledge and personalised the tour for us, answering lots of questions. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area.

A wonderful insight as to how life was prior to colonisation and how Maori 'invented" New Zealand's tourism and worked as the New Zealand's first Tour Guides
Graham_R, Apr 2025
Wear comfortable shoes as theirs a bit of walking, but get ready for a great time as it’s a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

This is a true Māori experience. Our guide was a proud 5th generation Māori from this village and so knowledgeable about the history. And the geothermal action is astounding. But book earlier in the day so you have a chance to visit the Māori owned shops in the village. We booked later and the shops were all closed. Other than that, an excellent way to learn about the history and culture of this village.

Guide grew up in the village, wealth of knowledge, great singer, powerful seeing that this is an active village/community. All in all great experience and great to learn and see the culture.

Wonderful authentic village and very knowledgeable tour guide. We stayed for the performance which was excellent also .
Denis_P, Mar 2025
Great to learn about the life and history of the village and the people. To see how they used the natural hot springs to live their lives was very interesting.
Blake_H, Feb 2025
This was a very cool cultural experience! Seeing the geothermal pools and learning about the Māori people was very cool. We heard traditional singing and chants but could not see it. Apparently there are shows daily at 11,12,&1 but it might cost extra to see that. That is the only part I wish I could have added.

It's a living village, with a tour lead by a Maori guide. Ours was knowledgeable and proud of his heritage. The tour is led at pace, but there is time afterwards to explore at leisure. I would recommend keeping up with the guide and then going back to see things in more detail afterwards

We were a bit time poor otherwise we would have loved to have done one of the longer tours.
Our guide was quite young but so passionate. Kept everyone's attention for the whole tour.
Darwyyn_D, Jan 2025
Great tour of the village; note that if you go for the 3pm tour, the shop will be closed by the time you are done, so get anything you'd like ahead of your tour.

I was disappointed that I missed the singing that was on after our tour was over because we did an 11am tour.
Our tour guide was excellent but I felt a bit let down by just walking around and didn’t feel it was the cultural experience that I was hoping for
Linda_M, Dec 2024
Nice, not great tour. Wish we heard more history of the people who lived and who live in the village.
Aqela_T, Oct 2024
Loved everything about the tour and the tour guide was fabulous. Would have loved to have had a soak in the pool though.

We went to the Whakarewarewa Village upon recommendation of friends and the locals. They were right! A great tour learning about the history and language, as well as contemporary life in a very unique community. A must do.
Suzy_K, Aug 2024
I took visitors from Sweden to the village. They were very impressed by the history, the volcanic activity, our guide's knowledge, and the amazing village itself.
However, we were shocked that the guide used every opportunity to push her political and historical opinions and views upon us, a captive audience, at every opportunity, in what amounted to hate speech against Christians and those who colonized this country. She is of course welcome to her views, I respect that, but this was not the right arena to voice them.
Jade_S, Aug 2024
Amazing loved to hear about Māori culture. Keep the culture alive. Kylie was an amazing tour guide very thankful to have had the experience.
David_Y, Jul 2024
Great place. Great guide. Direct descendant from the original Māori tribe. Detailed introduction with good sense of humour.
Marion_H, Jun 2024
Or guide was very knowledge, friendly and helpful. Loved the tour even if it was raining very hard. I have a statue carved in one piece of wood and she said it was from here tribe. Going to antiques road show to show it off.
Mona_P, Jun 2024
An amazing experience with a very informative guide who has lived in the village since birth who told us stories of her childhood which really brought the experience to life
