Disembark here for a guided walk along wide and well-groomed trails that border volcanic craters, natural springs, and bubbling mud pools in a vibrant range of yellow, orange and turquoise technicolor.

For those who want a thermal spring experience it is exhaustive of the region and well laid out and managed. Lady Knox seemed a little contrived and the description turned ot a little misleading as it is set at a specific time by human intervention.
The tour guide was excellent and very informative.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Tēnā koe!
Cheers for the honest and detailed feedback! We’re stoked to hear that you found the tour well-managed and "exhaustive"—we take heaps of pride in making sure our guests see the absolute best of our volcanic backyard in a short amount of time.
You’ve got a sharp eye! We totally understand how the "scheduled" nature of Lady Knox can feel a bit different from the wild, unpredictable geothermal activity elsewhere.
We’re wrapped to hear your guide hit the mark and kept you well-informed throughout.
We’ll be sure to pass your kind words on to the team. Thanks heaps for coming along for the ride and for sharing your perspective!
Ngā mihi.

It was a great tour! Guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We got some great pictures. I would definitely recommend!
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Tēnā koe!
We’re stoked to hear you had a "top-notch" time and managed to snag some great photos—our volcanic backyard is definitely more photogenic than a Hollywood movie set, even if the sulphur smells a bit "energetic!"
At Elite Adventures, we take heaps of pride in having guides who are like a geothermal GPS with a personality. It’s awesome to know their knowledge and friendly vibe made the trip a highlight.
We’re wrapped that you got to see so many of our unique sights in such a short amount of time.
Thanks heaps for the high recommendation and for coming along for the ride!
Ngā mihi.
Ann_M, Mar 2026
Fantastic trip! Both of the sites were super interesting. Our guide, Shaun, was extremely well informed so we learned a lot about the geothermal and volcanic features, plants, and quite a bit about Maori culture. Wouldn’t change a thing!
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Kia Ora Ann,
Cheers for the legendary feedback! We’re stoked to hear that you had a "top-notch" time and wouldn't change a single thing.
At Elite Adventures, we take heaps of pride in guides like Shaun.
Whether it’s geothermal science, local botany, or Māori culture, he brings it all to life. We’re wrapped that you got to see so much of our unique region in such a short amount of time.
We’ll be sure to pass your kind words on to Shaun; he’ll be walking a bit taller today. Thanks heaps for coming along for the ride.
Ngā mihi.

We take heaps of pride in having guides like him who can dish out that much info while keeping the energy up. Consider it a top-tier workout with a legendary narrator! Thanks heaps for the shout-out to Shaun and for coming along for the ride.

Michael_C, Mar 2026
Our guide, Clive was good and knowledgeable, but we were not overly impressed by the three locations. All were good…but not great…maybe we have been spoiled by having visited Yellowstone National Park in USA.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Tēnā koe, Michael
Thank you for the honest feedback! We’re stoked to hear that Clive hit the mark—he certainly knows his stuff, and we’ll be sure to pass your kind words on to him. He’ll be wrapped to know his knowledge and guiding were appreciated.
We totally hear you on the Yellowstone comparison! It’s a bit like comparing an Apple to an orange—both are tasty fruits, but they offer completely different tastes.
While Yellowstone has that massive, sprawling scale, we take heaps of pride in the concentrated, "otherworldly" intimacy of our volcanic valleys and the deep Māori cultural history woven into the land here.
We’re glad you still had a day with us, and we really appreciate you making the trip all the way from the States to check out our backyard.
Nick_N, Mar 2026
Our tour guide on 8/03/2026 (Shawn if I remember his name correctly) is very knowledgeable. He took care of us well, shared a lot of information. My son and I had a great tour.
We recommended our friends to book this tour when they come to Rotorua

Recommendations to friends are the highest compliment we can receive, so thank you sincerely for spreading the word! We look forward to welcoming your friends—and hopefully you and your son again—on another adventure in the future.

A very well-organized small group tour covering Wai-O-Tapu, Lady Knox Geyser, and Waimangu Valley. Each stop was unique, with incredible geothermal landscapes and plenty of time to explore without feeling rushed.
The Lady Knox eruption was a highlight, and Waimangu’s scenery felt truly otherworldly. Transport was smooth, timing was perfect, and the small group size made the experience relaxed and enjoyable.
Highly recommended if you want an efficient and memorable overview of Rotorua’s geothermal sites.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Kia ora!
Thank you so much for the detailed feedback. We are thrilled that you enjoyed the 'otherworldly' scenery of Waimangu and the spectacle of Lady Knox.
We take great pride in our small group approach, as we believe it’s the best way to truly experience these geothermal wonders without the hustle and bustle of larger crowds. It’s wonderful to hear that the timing and transport worked perfectly for you, allowing you to explore at your own pace.
We appreciate the high recommendation and hope to welcome you back to Rotorua in the future!
Michelle_C, Feb 2026
This should not be missed! We saw some excellent geothermal sights, went on a beautiful hike (downhill with a return bus ride- yeah!) through a lush green forest, which would have been scenic enough even without the geothermal pools but that just made it so interesting! We saw geysers and colorful pools, heard about the fascinating volcanic and geothermal disasters that have occurred, and got outstanding commentary from our tourguide throughout. It was entertaining even for the kids on the tour. Also great that he got us to see the once daily geyser event without having to stick around to battle crowds- it was timed and coordinated perfectly. If you are coming to Rotorua you have to come on this tour!
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Kia ora!
Thank you so much for the glowing review. We are thrilled to hear that the whole family, kids included, had such a memorable time exploring our backyard!
It’s great that you enjoyed the 'downhill' hike through the forest—we agree that the lush scenery of Waimangu combined with the geothermal activity is a pretty unbeatable combo. We also take a lot of pride in our timing; there’s an art to seeing the Lady Knox geyser without the stress of the crowds, so we're glad that coordination made your day smoother.
I’ll be sure to pass your kind words along to your guide. Thank you for the high recommendation, and we hope to see you and the family back in Rotorua again one day!

Jim_B, Jan 2026
I did this as a half day trip. On-time hotel pickup. Short drive to the boiling mud pits. Then, to Waimangu
Volcanic valley for an hour’s walk. A real variety of thermal wonders. It’s mostly downhill and then meet the on-site bus for a return to our bus. Good discussion of nature with a local guide long connected to the area.
Bring a hat. Quick in and out to see the geyser erupt at 10:15 .
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thanks for the great feedback! We're delighted that you enjoyed your time with us. Hope to see you again for another adventure down the road!

I got a chance to do this tour while in Rotorua. You get taken to the major geothermal sites around Rotorua. Our tour guide Clive was great. Very knowledgeable about the sites and provided great general info about New Zealand. Plus since he knows the employees at each site he got us in very quickly everywhere including the Knox geyser which gets very crowded. My kids didn’t care for the sulphur smell but it’s fascinating seeing the geothermal springs up close.
Response from Host, Dec 2025
We truly appreciate you taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review. It is our goal to provide a seamless and informative experience, so it’s rewarding to hear that Clive’s expertise and local rapport added value to your day in Rotorua.
We understand the sulphur smell can be a bit of a surprise for younger travellers, but we’re thrilled the fascinating landscapes made a lasting impression on your family. Thank you for choosing us

Great tour of some of the many geological wonders of the Rotorua region. Phil’s ancestry and historical knowledge of the area made for a great experience. However, I had understood that there was a maximum of 12 people but our group was 19 people.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Thanks for your great review, Brian
We will pass on your comments to Phil. As per our website and the information we provide to all travel agents and providers our shared tour groups are not more than 20 people. Our private tours are for up to 4 people and are able to cater to a more intimate experience. We hope this did not impact your experience and apologies if that was the case. We look forward to hosting you, your family and friends in the future thanks Brian.
Kind Regards

It was a drizzling rainy day and we had SUCH an Incredible experience! Clint is such an amazing tour guide- full of local legends and cultural experience, and an expert on environmental impact! We saw the amazing volcano pools - the colors are unbelievable- then a geyser - then an incredible walk through the rainforest. Clint's fluency with Maori language and culture was enriching! Glad he chooses to spend his days sharing his passion with us tourists! The top highlight of our trip - and our photos will be on our Christmas card!
