Highly Recommend! 5 Stars!

RaviR_P, Sep 2025
This tour was absolutely incredible! From start to finish, it was the perfect way to experience the true beauty and culture of the Dominican Republic. Riding through the Anamuya Mountains in the open-air safari vehicle was so much fun and gave us amazing views. Visiting the old sugar plantation and watching locals hand-roll cigars was fascinating — such a unique experience! The stop at the largest and most important church and the famous “colmado” made us feel like we were really connecting with the local community. The traditional buffet lunch was delicious and a great chance to try authentic Dominican flavors. My favorite part was visiting a Dominican family — it felt so personal and heartwarming. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. If you want to explore beyond the resorts and see the real Dominican countryside, this tour is a must-do. Highly recommend!

Ruddy and Ramon were fantastic. The tour was fun and the food was delicious. The open air safari car was enjoyable. The chocolate was very good. Highly recommend!

Sammy made it great!

Thomas_S, Feb 2025
Good description. Sammy and his driver gave it the 5 stars!! The tastings and education of the culture, cocoa, coffee and tobacco were done well and informative. The pick up and drop off is long and a bit chaotic. All depends on your spot. The beach stop wasn’t needed and the vendors were very aggressive. Sammy and Edie were a delight.

A very fun learning experience!

Sue_J, Dec 2024
We thoroughly enjoyed this excursion! From a cigar rolling demonstration to an organic farm, we learned so much about the culture. Driving through the countryside, you see lush vegetation , rolling hills and the largest basilica in the third major city. A Dominican lunch was provided - the food was fantastic! Then off to Macao Beach which was truly gorgeous (be prepared for the vendors - they are respectful but plentiful). Our guide, Jesus (pronounced Hey-zeus) was engaging and extremely knowledgeable. He has a passion for his role and we learned so much. I definitely recommend this activity.

Amazing

Amazing experience..tour guy spoke in all languages so everyone would understand..lunch amazing..only down fall was when you get to the beach they kept harassing you after you say no many times.. I almost stepped out of character it was really annoying but overall amazing experience..

Absolutely waste of time

Gerd_F, May 2024
Absolutely wasted time. It is only a tour in which they want to sell their expensive products. First we went to a “sugar cane and tobacco plantation”. They don’t to tell you much how they grow the crops. Also they show you only the rolling of the cigars. Nothing to see how the tabacco fermentation process is done. Then you into the shop for alcohol and cigars (expensive). After that you go to a “cocoa and coffe plantation”. This not a plantation , only a garden. They tell you something about the coffee and cocoa production. But again you don’t get the whole picture. Only half of the process is told. After that again they want sell their products. E.g. the coffee is double the price for organic and fair trade coffee in Germany.

Robert_S, Mar 2024
Our guide Gregory was special! He was quite knowledgeable and entertaining. He sat with each little group on our vehicle and had a long conversation. Gregory made our experience fun and informative. He shared his local knowledge from plants, tobacco, rum, and chocolate to their system of education, healthcare, and politics. We stayed engaged in this fun look into the Dominican culture with Gregory.

Our host, Angel and our driver, Felix were fabulous! The tour was beautiful and very informative. Maria’s home and plantation were our favorite part of the day. Being able to eat right there was an added bonus.

One of the best tours we’ve been on. Our tour guide Ruddy was very knowledgeable and funny throughout the tour. Would highly recommend Runners Adventure for future tours.

We had the most wonderful time on the safari tour! We had a great tour guide, Edy who was very knowledgeable on everything and bus driver Felis! We loved trying the native drink, Mama Juana! At the end of the day we ended in Maria’s home where she made us an excellent lunch and showed us how to make chocolate on the caocao farm. I would highly recommend this excursion!

Great Tour. Ceasar was a great driver and Rudy was an amazing guide. Loved the river at the end. Would 100% recommend, just ditch the pasta @ at Maria's House for some more of that amazing fried chicken ;) and some extra cocoa.

Not a Safari, more like Shopping trip

Deanna K, Dec 2019
The whole trip is geared around you buying their products. They will show you how rum and cigars are made then try and sell you rum and cigars. Then they take you to an authentic Dominican home where they try to sell you a variety of items produced on their farm.

I would have gladly sacrificed half the time spent in the cigar shop, and sampling coffee, chocolate and Mamawana, for more time horseback. While the promise of a beach visit was kept, getting in the water was not possible - it was a surfing beach. Best part of the tour was virtually limitless Cuba Libre's.

Kyle C, Nov 2017
I just recently went on this excursion about a week ago and it was overall a good time. You get to hear a little about the DR, try some mamajuana and visit a very nice beach in the end. My only real issue with this excursion was that our tour guide Alex slandered Haiti while we were on our way to our first destination. While talking about how rich the Dominican Republic is, our tour guide felt the need to state that the reason Haiti is so poor is because of the lack of foreign investment due to the Haitian peoples inability to stop fighting. While saying this, he makes a hand gesture pulling an imaginary guns trigger. Not only is this completely false and inappropriate, it further perpetuates the negative image of Haiti and the Haitian people that is pushed by western media. I think Alex is in need of a history lesson as to why Haiti is in the situation it is in instead slandering an entire country and their people. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he just make a mistake but something tells me he was purposely insulting Haiti. I am aware of the relationship between the two nations and know about the Dominican Republic's historical racist treatment towards Haitians and dark skinned Dominicans that continue till this day and understand how that can cause ignorance. Hopefully he sees this and corrects his mistake.

Stephanie_A, Oct 2017
A must if you want to really experience real life in the DR.We drove through many small towns, seeing schools and the children, the homes and businesses of the people. The farm lands and some of Irma's aftermath on this beautiful island. The people are so welcoming and hard working.Maria's house was very interesting and we loved learning about the coffee, cocoa, vanilla tobacco, seeing and tasting first hand how they are grown. We had a nice lunch and stopped for the horseback ride. That was a bit sad. Dogs run freely throughout the island and all are thin, the horses were very thin.I just wanted to give them food and water. Our guide Mimi and our driver were very entertaining.Mimi is the real deal!!!lots of laughter. We were picked up on time at our resort and had a great and memorable day! Plenty of water provided all day.

Cecilia D, Nov 2016
This was a great excursion and I appreciate the company calling me at my resort to see if I wanted to reschedule after they had to cancel the excursion on the day we went due to dangerous roads with water and blockage of the bridge we needed to cross. I loved it all except the horseback riding part. The way the excursion reads leads you to believe you will take the horses up a mountain. The terrain we were in was extremely muddy and nothing to really see it was just a big field and the horses seemed tired. So that part was a little disappointing. It would have been better if we actually went on a real trail or along the beach. Also at least been advised to bring proper clothing for getting all muddied up. Other than that this was a great way to spend the day and our guide MiMi was WONDERFUL!!!!! If you want to see a little bit of everything from the beach, the mountain, real coffee, cigars, and souvenirs this is the thing to do!
