Our family of five (including three boys—10, 10, and 12) booked a private tour to Chichen Itza, and it was one of the highlights of our trip—largely thanks to our guide, Antonio.
He arrived right on time for our early 6:30 AM pickup and was incredibly accommodating from the start. The comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle made the early morning easy, and he quickly proved thoughtful and flexible—stopping at a great local bakery for coffee and pastries, helping with an ATM stop, and even taking us to a pharmacy for a bandage for our son. Small touches, but they made a big difference.
Arriving early at Chichen Itza was a huge advantage—we beat the crowds and heat, making the experience far more enjoyable. Antonio was an outstanding guide: knowledgeable, engaging, and patient with all of our questions. He also did a great job connecting with our boys and keeping them interested throughout.
Afterward, we visited Cenote San Lorenzo Oxman for a refreshing swim—it felt like something out of Avatar, with lush greenery and dramatic vines hanging into the water. We lingered longer than planned because we loved it so much, and Antonio never rushed us—he simply adjusted the schedule.
We wrapped up with a great à la carte lunch in Valladolid, where Antonio helped us quickly order (much needed at that point!) and still left us time to walk around and explore.
Overall, the tour delivered exactly as promised—early access to Chichen Itza, a one-of-a-kind cenote experience, and a great lunch in a colonial town—but Antonio made it exceptional. Highly recommend, and if you can request him, absolutely do.

Fantastic tour. Having a small private group made the Chichen Itza experience so much better. As we passed by the large group tours there I realized there was no way they were absorbing as much as our guide was giving us, particularly our children. Our guide’s knowledge base was massively impressive. We then were taken to the Oxman cenote which was a blast and not crowded even in the middle of spring break. Finished off in a small local restaurant which served us the best meals of our entire weeklong trip.

It was great! So pleased we did the private tour for just our party especially as we had our two kids with us (13 and 8) and to be fair history is not one of their passions. The private tour helped us tailor our day to our speed and our desires. Oscar (our guide) was great. Very knowledgeable about the sites, the cenote and lunch. He drove us exceptionally well and as we left super early we stayed ahead of all the crowds. We were back by 4:30pm and able to have a swim at the hotel before dinner. A great day. Thank you Oscar for looking after us so well and sharing your knowledge of the Mayan people, especially those that are now vendors at the site. Loved it!

Great day! Irving was a wonderful tour guide. We were paced according to our needs. Very informative on Chichen Itza, but not too long. The cenote was beautiful. We didn't swim in it, but if you are inclined this is a nice one. Lunch was delicious! Highly recommend.

Takes about 3hour drive to reach the destination but vehicles is comfortable and the driver stops along the way for comfort stops Tour guide is very knowledgeable Antonio really gave us details about the Mayan city

Carlos was fantastic. Picked us up promptly in a large gmc suv, AC and ice cold water ready. It’s a long drive from our hotel RIU Latino but we chatted about everything under the sun which made the trip faster and enjoyable. Quick pit stop along the way, and great information while we explored the sights. Great lunch in Villadolid and beautiful Cenote.

Our guide Isaac picked us up right on time as agreed. The drive to Chichen Itza took about two hours. We arrived just before 8 a.m., so we could enjoy everything without crowds. By the time we finished about 1.5 hours later, the tour buses and large groups started arriving.
The tour itself was very informative. Isaac shared the history of Chichen Itza and the Maya culture with a lot of passion and enthusiasm, which made it really enjoyable.
Afterwards we had lunch in Valladolid and took a short walk around the town. To finish the day, we visited a cenote nearby and then headed back. In total, the tour lasted around 8.5 hours.
What we really appreciated was that we could customize the tour according to our preferences and decide ourselves how long we wanted to spend at each place.
One small thing I would mention: in Valladolid we only saw a small part of the town. Afterwards I realized that the city actually has so much more to offer. I would have loved to at least drive past the cathedral in Valladolid and maybe do a small city tour by car. If I had known beforehand how many beautiful spots there are, I would have mentioned it during the tour — but at the same time it would have been nice if Isaac had shown us some of those places on his own as well.
Overall, I would give it a solid 9/10. 😊 it was a unique experience in a total relaxing Atmosphere

This is a great trip. Early start but well worth it as you miss the intense heat and the crowds and have plenty of space to see everything and take photos. Our driver and guide did a brilliant job, he was very helpful and informative, we couldn’t have asked for better. After a lovely lunch there is a swim in the cenote which again was a wonderful experience. Loved every minute would highly recommend.

The day of our tour was our favorite day in México, and our meal in Valladolid was the best we had our whole trip. 10/10 would recommend to anyone! Hopefully you get Toni (Antonio). He was an amazing tour guide!

We had a wonderful time with our tour guide Carlos. He picked us up promptly at 6:30am in a very comfortable SUV with booster seats for our kids. It was spacious and provided water. It was a quiet drive two hours to Chichén Itza and he provided a lot of great historical context, very knowledgeable. He was super kind to our kids and helped us take some great photos. Then we visited the beautiful Oxman cenote. We did not swim there but it was cool to see. Then we went to the quaint town of Valladolid, had an amazingly delicious lunch (food was included in tour price, beverages were not). Then he drove us around the town a bit so we could see a beautiful cathedral and then it was back to the hotel. I'd highly recommend this tour to any family. It was so so easy and informative and comfortable. We had a wonderful time and are so grateful to have had Carlos as our guide!

Truly an amazing experience. Antonio was an incredible guide. Very knowledgeable and also flexible. He was able to tailor the entire experience to accommodate our children and this made the day so much easier. Chichen Itza was truly spectacular. It's one of the wonders of the world for good reason. The cenote was ethereal and cool. Lunch at the restaurant was phenomenal. Antonio made fantastic recommendations and we had a perfect experience. Christian was a very safe and excellent driver. The van was clean and air conditioning worked well. A day to remember!! Highly highly highly recommend. 10 stars!
Lauren_H, Feb 2026
The experience was perfect. Juan was so knowledgeable and friendly. And the communication was clear and helpful from the company. Would absolutely recommend.
Emily_W, Feb 2026
Our tour with Carlos was incredible. We greatly appreciated how well-planned and thoughtful our itinerary was. We arrived to Chichen Itza before the crowds, and enjoys a peaceful time at Cénote Oxman and Valladolid. We cannot recommend this tour enough! Thank you Carlos!
Mark_D, Feb 2026
Carlos our tour guide was great! The pick up and drop off was prompt and professional. Carlos took great care of us throughout the day. He gave us a lot of information about Chichen itza. He was very kind, personable, and informative. We would definitely take a tour with him again.
The only knock I have is with the Office. The communication was a bit sketchy. They were supposed to send us contact information, etc. and they never did so we weren’t quite sure how the pick up would go, but Carlos was there on time and again took real good care of us through out the day!
Claudia_T, Feb 2026
This was an excellent experience. Our tour guide Herbanito (Eddy) was so friendly and knowledgable. We learned a lot about Chichen Itza at a pace that suited our family and really enjoyed the restaurant and cenote. We travelled with a 4 month and our grandparents. Suitable for all. Execellent day
rgentul, Jan 2026
This was an easy 10/10 tour! Tony picked us up from our hotel and gave us all the insider knowledge of life in Cancun, plus a curated overview of Chichen Itza and Mayan culture, and catered to our every need for food and drinks and our endless questions. Can’t recommend him enough!
Manuel_D, Jan 2026
Arnulfo was excellent & kind. On time arrival and great driving. Very knowledgeable on the area and made sure to check in with us when deciding next steps. Always gave us our privacy when needed and never made us feel rushed. Highly recommend.

This private tour of Chichén Itzá was truly the highlight of our entire vacation. From the moment we were picked up in Playa del Carmen, everything was seamless, comfortable, and incredibly well organized.
Our tour guide, Heriberto, was outstanding—extremely knowledgeable, engaging, and a pleasure to spend the day with. We learned so much about the Mayan ruins, their history, culture, and significance, and Heriberto explained everything clearly in excellent English. We especially enjoyed the conversations throughout the day, which made the experience feel personal and enriching rather than rushed or scripted.
Visiting the cenote was another amazing part of the tour. It was beautiful, refreshing, and we felt completely safe the entire time. Every detail of the day exceeded our expectations, from the pacing to the depth of information to the overall care and professionalism.
If you’re considering a tour of Chichén Itzá, this private experience is absolutely worth it. We cannot recommend Heriberto and this tour highly enough—it was educational, memorable, and truly exceptional.

From booking the tour to drop off afterwards this vip experience is totally 5 stars!
We were a group of 9 and we chose the 6:30am tour knowing how warm it could be at Chichen itza.
The communication with Damian was prompt and professional.
Our tour guide/driver was Arnulfo “Arni” and he was fantastic. The vehicle was spotless and the cooler was full of ice cold bottled water and he was a very safe driver.
The tour was awesome. Arni clearly loves his job because he was very enthusiastic and a wealth of knowledge. So much information, it was a great morning learning so much history.
We decided lunch after the tour then the Cénote. The food was delicious with very big portions and if not on a tour but in that area would eat there again.
The cenote was so much fun with the rope swing and the platform to jump off of. It was extremely busy but we still had a blast and the water was very refreshing.
Every member in our group had such a great day and said they would highly recommend this VIP experience.

Ian completely enjoyable and informative day. The guide was prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. We were picked up early, skipped the lines which save hours of waiting. The entire day went like clockwork.

Isaac was a wonderful guide. We drove to the site in a comfortable Mercedes. He suggested we get there when it opened at 8am so we got up at 5. It was such a smart move because it wasn’t very crowded when we entered but after leaving in about 2 hours, it was packed with cars and people. Isaac gave us great information about the different temples and the history of the Mayans. Had a great lunch on our return and stopped to see the cénote but didn’t swim but Isaac explained all about the cenotes. We were back at our resort by 3pm. All in all, a very enjoyable and educational day. Thank you Isaac.

Heriberto was an excellent guide. He took care of our special requests and allowed us a lot of flexibility. The vegetarian lunch was delicious
Robert_G, Oct 2025
Was very nice to have a private tour guide, be the first at the popular temple, learn the facts from an educated guide and have a great quiet lunch. The car was clean and did not smell like car wash air freshener thank God. Abraham was a wonderful guide and the highlight of our first trip to Cancun. The Cenote was a unique experience. If you like animals bring dog treats and insects appropriate for a 1/2 meter iguana.
Amie_B, Oct 2025
Very informative, beautiful, relaxing day on this private tour. Our guide, Eric, was an incredible source of knowledge. We would not have been able to appreciate some Chichen Itza’s features without him. The Cénote was incredible! It was worth it to book the private tour for our wedding anniversary vacation.
Melinda_H, Aug 2025
There were many parts of the day that were absolutely fantastic. Chichen Itza is beautiful. The tour said that we would have 3 hours there. That was not true. We only had 2 hours there. Our tour guide spent 1.5 hours with us and gave us a great tour. Then we had 30 minutes to shop with the vendors. It felt very rushed as I would have liked to have spent the 3 hours there. Following the tour at Chichen Itza we went to the Oxman cenote which was also amazing. Lunch was great.
Viator did not send us contact info for our tour guide as they were supposed to prior to the trip. They claimed they emailed it, but it was never in my spam folder and was not received in my inbox either. This was particularly difficult for my family since we were staying in an AirBNB in Akumal and were 1.5 km from a main road in the jungle. Thankfully our driver found us, but we had no way to contact him. I sent several messages to Viator between 8pm and 6:30am (the evening before and morning of the trip) but didn't get a response until 10am the day of the trip.

We had a fantastic time with Eric. He was an amazing tour guide, super knowledgeable and friendly. Everything was very smooth from beginning till end. Eric was even flexible to do an extra stop for us at a church we wanted to see. An additional highlight was the lunch - not at all a touristic spot with crappy food, in fact we had reallyyy tasty options. There was almost no waiting time for the food since Eric even ordered our choices in advance. 10/10, very thoughtful organisation. Worth the money & can only recommend !
