Great tour and with a last minutes port change and our other tour canceled we loved to get this experience, thanks Ross
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thanks for the great review, sure was a last minute booking but it all worked out ok. I do hope the Anthem was able to get into Wellington. Cheers Ross
Mark_R, Mar 2026
Ross our guide was so informative. The wine stop was perfect. Lots of tastings & generous cheese & crackers. Te mata park overlook was spectacular. We were blessed with perfect weather. Highly recommend!
Nicholas_P, Mar 2026
Ross was a great guide. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Tour was great and the wine tasting was excellent. Lovely day out.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Hi there, thank you for the great review, our shore excursion has received many great reviews this season so will be running the same program next. Cheers Ross
Cindy_M, Feb 2026
The host changed our time and told them we couldn't make that time and would like a refund.
They said no twice. I do not understand we paid for a earlier time and they changed the time on us and then we could not do that. How can they refuse to give our money back?
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Hi Cindy, I was disappointed to read your review.
I am not unreliable read all the other reviews Your meeting instructions on your ticket read : Your Excursion will depart about 30 minutes after disembarking begins " I sent you a reconfirmation text which stated. " Your excursion will depart about 30 minutes after disembarking begins " Then you contacted me again requesting more departure times .
My reply was misunderstood and you did not request calcification or cancel the excursion but simply did not arrive at the meeting point. This disadvantaged the other 21 passengers on this tour as I delayed tour departure in the hope that you
would arrive at the meeting point.
To further complicate matters Napier had more than 8,000 Cruise passengers in the city plus 30,000 Art Deco visitors.
Under the circumstances I would be comfortable with Viator providing you with a 50 % refund.

Excellent guide! John gave a great overview of the city. Loved all of his insight and he was extremely informative.
The wine tour was great too.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Hi Julie, thank you so much for your review, when you are a team of just 2 it is really really good to get feedback like yours. This is Johns first season with me so I do hope we can continue to work together for years to come
Barbara_P, Feb 2026
Excellent guide, took us to his home to see his beautiful gardens, drove to top of TeMata Peak for fantastic views with time to look around, and a nice tour of Napier with stops to view sights.
At the wine tasting, which was a beautiful, private owned vineyard, our guide provided us with the cheese and crackers.
EXCELLENT TOUR & GUIDE.
I highly recommend this.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Hi Barbara , thank you for the great review, I do appreciate your comments about the person touch and my garden ( but its not happy today as we are having awful winds )
rob_l, Feb 2026

Our Tour of Napier with Ross was outstanding. He showed us the beautiful sites around the city and the stunning views from Te Mata Peak. We ended up the tour with a wine tasting at a local winery- it was lovely. We had a great experience with Ross as our tour guide and we highly recommend this tour of Napier!
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Hi Karen, thanks for the great review, yes a tour that includes Te Mata Peak and wine tasting with cheese and biscuits is a great combo ( not to mention my garden ) cheers Ross
Debra_K, Dec 2025
If it's raining they don't take you to mountain wine tasting was not much good city is so small you can walk it
Response from Host, Dec 2025
Poor Debra, so sorry that you hated your tour and the weather. But I must say it is very unfair of you to give me a 1 star review due to the weather. Of course I did not take you up a mountain in pouring rain with zero visibility, we all could have died and you would not have been able to posted your awful review, LOL
Linda_S, May 2025
Good use of time to get a feel for what it’s like to live in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our excursion and really got a good feel for Napier and its surroundings. We found Ross’s garden lovely with a gorgeous view. The scenery up to Te Mata peak was spectacular!
Thanks for a great tour!
Response from Host, May 2025
Hi Linda, thank you for the good review, it was a pleasant surprise to host a cruise ship group at this time of year, fortunately the weather held unlike Tauranga I have been told.
Lisa_E, Mar 2025
We liked our tour although the weather made it hard to see any views from the peak. Learned about Napier and the surrounding area. We enjoyed our stop for some wine and cheese.
Response from Host, Apr 2025
Hi Lisa, thanks for the review, I am sorry but I cant control the weather. Cheers Ross
Maureen_H, Mar 2025
very much enjoyed the vehicle, the guide, the tour, the well timed breaks, the visit to the owner's beautiful garden and the wine and cheese experience.
Response from Host, Mar 2025
Hi Maureen, thank you for your prompt and great review, and thanks for the comment about my garden. Cheers Ross
Bernadette_S, Mar 2025
We had the best time from the moment we were picked up. Sandi was awesome friendly great fun. Napier love it. The winery was beautiful nice selection of tasters
gjl, Feb 2025
A wonderful tour with amazing views, a kind and knowledgeable guide and a great wine and cheese tasting experience. I highly recommend this tour.
KatyA, Feb 2025
The small tour provided a good overview of Napier and the sites. It would have been nice to stop in town in front of one of the Art Deco buildings and get out and have a stroll. Te Maya was the highlight for the views. The wine and cheese stop was lovly
Response from Host, Feb 2025
Hi Katy, thanks for your review and positive comments. With a 3 hour tour and a Cruise ship in for such a short time it would be difficult to fit in a stop in down town but you did have an hour free before the last shuttle to take a walk about
avdevitt, Feb 2025
No communication about changing pickup point, guide was an hour or more late to pick us up. No communication through all of that. We drove up a hill to see his personal garden, drove a bunch more to get to a hill, and went to a winery where we had a very small tasting of very mediocre wine. Waste of time and money on a day when we could have gone to the art deco festival.
Response from Host, Feb 2025
In response to your rather harsh review.
The pick up location was changed due to the festival and much of down town was closed. The tour was due to depart 30 minutes after disembarking begins but never before 8.30 am . The tour departed at 8.45am. The highlights of the tour as listed are the garden walk, views from Te Mata peak and wine and cheese tasting . Your tour included all of these stops. In consideration of the festival happening I made every effort to get the group back to Napier early to allow time to enjoy the festival. You mention that the tour was a waste of money, maybe you should consider next time going on a cruise ship tour with a group of 40 others at twice the price. Yes the festival is amazing, maybe ask Princess why you were not informed of the festival ( maybe they wanted you to buy these expense tours and not walk around Napier at no cost). But you may be please to know that I have decide to make myself unavailable to tours on Deco weekend to avoid confusion not of my making.
Janice_H, Feb 2025
We met our tour as scheduled by the pink flags. We had a small tour group and our driver was friendly and knowledgeable. We saw wonderful views of the town and up at the peak. The winery stop was great! We tasted lots of wines and enjoyed the cheeses and crackers with our lovely taste. Our tour was on the anniversary of the 1931 quake and our driver explained the history of rebuilding the town, and he was careful to get us back to enjoy the festivities in town before we had to return to the ship.
Response from Host, Feb 2025
Hi Janice , thank you so much for your great review. Another review of the very same tour has just been posted and it was very harsh, its very difficult to please all of the people all of the time. You have made me feel so much better as I found the harsh review rather upsetting. So thank you once again. Cheers Ross
Sharon_R, Feb 2025
Wine tasting was good and the views were great and amazing. The guide Sandy was very knowledgeable with Napier and the Earthquakes
Response from Host, Feb 2025

Nitty_D, Feb 2025

Ross is a fantastic guide. Shared lots of interesting information about Napier and the surrounding area, wines, local flora and fauna. He made our day great.
Onchira_S, Dec 2024
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Denise with an educational tour and stunning views. Ross gave a warm welcome and it was lovely to able to enjoy his garden with the views of the bay. Beautiful wines and Askerne Winery. Highly recommend! Thank you Denise and Ross.
Response from Host, Dec 2024
Hi there, thanks for the great and personal review. Yes Denise really knows how to host my clients. Thanks for mentioning my garden, it does take a good deal of keeping up. I hope you have a great day in Tauranga cheers Ross.
Bruce_P, Nov 2024
Stunning views and interesting commentary by our tour guide and driver Sandy. Nice wines and cheese in a relaxed atmosphere.
Response from Host, Nov 2024
Thanks for the review Bruce, much appreciated
Nancy_M, Oct 2024
Very nice excursion to see the city. Great wine flight at a local small winery. The cheese plate with it was very much appreciated. Angela was a very friendly, competent driver on roads I would not want to drive myself. Plenty of time for a cruise passenger.
Response from Host, Oct 2024
Hi Nancy, thank you very much for the great review.
Good to hear that you appreciated the cheese and biscuits I provide to my tour guests.
Also really good to get positive feed back with regards to Angela. Cheers Ross
Antonia_V, Oct 2024
Ross was an excellent guide. He worked with us to overcome issues created by the cruise line. And the stops were all great!
Response from Host, Oct 2024
Hi Antonia, thank you for your positive review. And thank you for acknowledging managing issues with regards to disembarking. Fortunately on Cruise ship visit days I only offer tours for cruise passengers so its all part of the job to patiently wait . Kind regards Ross
jahnina_p, Apr 2024
Relaxed tour with informative commentary regarding the town. Learned and have seen so much of the beautiful Napier.
The wine tasting plus the cheese and crackers at Askerne was a pleasant experience. Ross even took us to his beautiful home and got to meet his dogs!
Even the Feijoa was a nice little surprise! Met many amazing people on this tour as well. Thank you Ross for a beautiful tour of Napier.
Mark_G, Mar 2024
The driver was kind and nice, and he owns the tour. The views were great, wine was good. He also stopped at his house and showed view from his yard.
Kevin_F, Mar 2024
Enjoyed viewing city sights and countryside. Ross is friendly and very informative, and safe driver. Comfortable ride.
Kevin_B, Mar 2024
Ross, our guide, was great. He did a great job telling us about the agriculture in the area and how Napier became Art Deco. He answered questions and did everything you would want and expect a tour guide to do. It was a fun time and we even stopped at his house to see his flower garden.
Elizabeth_N, Mar 2024
Ross was a lovely tour guide. It was so special to get to go to his house and see his lovely garden and meet his pups! He knows and loves Napier. We were on a cruise and this tour was definitely a highlight of our trip! The wine and cheese tasting were awesome! Loved the winery as well.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Hi Elizabeth, thank you for your review, love "Unique and special tour ". Little Molly and Minnie, love being given the opertunity to meet and greet. Thanks again, cheers Ross
