This was by far the best cooking class I have ever done!
We arrived a little early and were greeted by José. We walked to a local market and it was such a fun experience seeing how food is purchased in Mexico City! We had some time to walk around independently and that was fascinating. There was an honest question asked, how spicy do you like your food, we all agreed upon 7/10 and it was the perfect choice!
We quickly became friends with the people we went with and had the opportunity to learn from them while cooking too. José was a fantastic chef and explained everything in detail so we would be able to absorb the information. We had a bunch of things going at once, and yet it felt well-managed!
By the time we became hungry from the delicious smells we got to sit down and enjoy the first round of food, this was a 4 round meal!
By the end, I had tried things I never knew to try, used the coolest blow torch I have ever touched, and learned how people get their salsa so smooth and rich!
I would do this every day for a week to learn different recipes if I could! I cannot recommend this enough. Be sure to bring some cash to tip him for all his hard work, and afterward, we strolled back to the market to purchase some ingredients for home and try to remake it ourselves!

Chief Ileana was incredible. She was super knowledgeable and helpful. The meal we cooked was delicious. The trip to the market was so fun and educational - we tried some foods from the local area. I would definitely recommend this tour to everyone!
Jose was a great host and teacher. I enjoyed going to the market and learning how to cook. My favorite part was that I didn't have to do the clean-up after :) Jokes. This was a worthwhile learning experience. I came alone and enjoyed the personalized experience.
This experience exceeded my expectations. Everything from going to the market to buy the ingredients used in the menu, learning some valuable knife skills to the the impact of the planning, preparation and attention to the entire process. The menu were items I will take back and incorporate into life

Chef Ileana is outstanding. She told us (I met another solo traveler at the session) about the neighborhood history and took us to the market and then we successfully cooked many traditional dishes. This is absolutely worth coming and spending about 3 hours cooking and eating!
Awesome experience, Jose was amazing! Go hungry, there’s no shortage of food, you’ll leave stuffed! Jose takes the time to personalize the meal to each person’s preferences and was held in a very cool century-old apartment building!
Weird booking glitch, nothing to do with Jose. Kept getting notifications from TripAdvisor that booking had been cancelled while at the same time receiving reminders from Viator when and where to meet. We showed up anyway hoping TripAdvisor was wrong and glad we did!
Such an amazing authentic experience with the best hosts and Chef Jose. The food was absolutely delicious and very hands on with opportunities to take lead on different dishes throughout the class. Highly recommend!!

We had a really amazing experience cooking with Jose. He walked us to the market and guided us on what to pick out for the meal we cooked later. He was patient and informative on what we were doing and how we were doing it. His lessons will last my partner and I a lifetime. A really phenomenal experience and can’t wait to take these new skills back home. 10/10

This was an AWESOME experience. Everything about it was just great. We went to the market to pick up the food which was fun! Making the food was great. Jose made sure everyone was involved and we learned so much! The food was excellent and he made sure at the beginning that there were not food allergies and checked everyone preferences to make sure to adjust the meal as needed. 10/10 would recommend!

We recently traveled to Mexico City and wanted to truly immerse ourselves in the history and culture of its people. What better way to do that than through a hands-on cooking experience?
We were warmly welcomed by Chef Jose, who graciously allowed us to join the class—even though we arrived about 15 minutes late thanks to Mexico City traffic (which, by the way, is not for the faint of heart!). From the start, his kindness and hospitality set the tone for an incredible experience.
Chef Jose guided us through a local market, sharing his knowledge of the region’s fresh produce, herbs, and meats. He gave us time to explore on our own, taking in the vibrant energy and offerings of the market before heading back to his home, where the class took place.
Once there, he walked us through the menu using the ingredients we helped select. He was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also patient, explaining each step from start to finish in a way that made the experience approachable and fun. We were fully involved taking turns preparing each dish and truly learning the techniques behind them.
From fresh tortillas and salsa to guacamole, vegetarian soup, tacos, and enchiladas, every dish felt authentic and full of flavor. Sitting down together to enjoy the four-course meal we helped create was the perfect ending—and it was absolutely delicious.
This is truly a must-do experience in Mexico City if you want to connect with the culture in a meaningful way. Thank you, Chef Jose, for such a memorable and rewarding experience.
Great experience with a great host. Jose walked us to the market, showed us how locals shop, then brought us back to an authentic and beautiful apartment where we cooked.
An experience I’ll always remember. Jose is a great communicator and personable. He promised to teach me the tips and tricks of techniques and he delivered. Our shopping trip was educational. The market is extraordinary. I recommend it for a group or solo travelers.

I would avoid this if possible - we left in the first hour. My partner and I were separated during many of the cooking tasks and the kitchen is too crowded so many of the group was standing around watching. At this price point, very poor experience

The reservation was originally booked for a different date, and the guests arrived unexpectedly on a fully booked day without prior notice. Despite this, our team made every effort to accommodate them rather than turning them away, which required rearranging logistics, staffing, ingredients, and space during an already full class.
Our cooking experiences are designed to be interactive, communal, and carefully coordinated for all participants. Even with the unexpected circumstances, we did our best to welcome and include the guests in the experience.
The guests ultimately decided to leave early on their own decision, after preparations had already been made specifically for them. While we always try to be flexible and understanding, small local businesses also rely on guests respecting confirmed reservation details so we can provide the best experience possible for everyone involved.
We remain committed to offering warm hospitality and memorable experiences to all our guests and truly appreciate the understanding and support of our community.
While we sincerely wish every traveler a wonderful experience during their visit to Mexico City, we also believe mutual respect, clear communication, and consideration for local businesses are essential for these experiences to work positively for everyone involved. Fantastic, thoughtful and very pleasant experience with Ileana who guided us through the neighborhood market while sharing so much valuable and authentic knowledge about different fruits and vegetables we saw along the way. We were lucky to be the only family cooking that day and had the kitchen to ourselves. Illeana was patient, very knowledgeable and respectful with my teenage sons and thoughtfully engaged both of them in food preparation. Well done and thank you very much for giving us tasteful food and a great class!

Great way to experience the flavors of Mexico. After buying all fresh ingredients from a local market, we returned to a home kitchen to cook a delicious traditional Mexican meal. We made everything from scratch under the guidance of our host chef. It was a perfect date night for our anniversary.
Jose the chef was amazing. Very nice guy and did a wonderful job of teaching the dishes we cooked. Clearly a very talented chef. However, the apartment in which the class is taught is filthy.
This is a truly hands on experience and you feel so comfortable like your cooking in your own kitchen. There were 11 in our group and that was probably the max size to really enjoy the experience while still getting to participate in the experience. If you really like cooking, this is an experience for you. You also get the recipes emailed to you after. I learned a few new tricks to take back home with me.
There was no option to book with cocktails like on other site for this experience, so bring $300 pesos if you want to enjoy a couple of cocktails while you cook and eat. If you dont drink tequila/mezcal, bring your own drinks to the class (would have been nice to know ahead of time). Wish I had know this before and brought some wine to enjoy.
Booked last minute on a solo trip and really enjoyed the entire experience. From the setting in a beautiful home to the market and very approachable chef. Would definitely recommend.
The cooking class was great. My husband and I learned so much about Mexican cooking and the chef made it so easy for us to learn.
It was a really fun experience that started with going to a market around the corner to buy all the ingredients and then the small group 8 of us worked as in teams to make all the things we ate. And then it concluded with a luncheon that was really fantastic. Great company chef Jose was excellent and would highly recommend.
I was a solo traveler welcomed into a fun group. The chef was friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. The space was beautiful and filled with eclectic decor. Best of all, the food was delicious, and we actually helped shop for, prepare, and cook.
