Gorgeous and Chill

Kellie_D, Apr 2026
A gorgeous and relaxing day on the water and the beach with our tour guide, Julio. His chill vibe was needed after several busy days. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see the flamingos as they had already left the area but the beautiful mangroves are enough on their own. For lunch, I highly recommend paying extra for the whole red snapper. It was fresh, cooked and seasoned to perfection.

5 minutes in Mangroves, not english quide

Nella_M, Jan 2026
The places itself were beautiful, but I went to trip to see mangroves, and the boat tour was mainly open water and maybe maximun 5 minutes in mangroves. Also our quide who spoke little english didnt came to the boat, so that whole time everything was only spanish. Also we didnt stop to the market at the beginning As sead in the timetable.

Great beach trip for an American couple.

Julio is an excellent guide. The boat trip to see the flamingos was beautiful. The beach is fun, but a bit crowded.

The driver was very nice...

Mariam_M, Jan 2023
The driver was very nice and polite and Celestun is beautiful indeed. These were the advantages. Now, the guide promised to pick me up at 7:40, so I had to wake up at 7:15 (and I am not a morning person) what time did they actually pick me up? 8:50! The person on Messenger was polite but kept telling me they’d come soon, which wasn’t true. After the boat tour they took us to a beachside restaurant which had notoriously tasteless food with a price tag of a nice place in Merida. The restaurant had toilets but they were flooded and wacky. Besides, there were around 4 broken sun beds (in our group there were 7 of us excluding the locals which were also there) and no umbrellas, so despite all the sunblock, I ended up with red skin. Near the beach there were some other local people sitting on the sand with bear cans and looking at us very strangely, so if I wasn’t very inclined to put on my swimsuit and get in the water to begin with, I was definitely not going to do that after seeing them. 3,5 hrs on that beach was definitely too much. If you can, hire a car and go to the place by yourself, there are boat tours you can hire for a fraction of the price, plus you have more flexibility. Don’t forget to take a jacket or a scarf because it’s quite windy on the boat.
