What To Expect

Meet a driver at your Marrakech accommodations, then travel to the farmhouse in a private, climate-controlled vehicle.

Join a local cook for a day in the kitchen, starting by testing your nose on a “Guess the Spices” test, trying to identify unlabeled jars of Moroccan seasonings.

Roll up your sleeves to prepare a full meal, including bread, salad, and special Moroccan crepes. The main course changes daily and both vegetarian and gluten-free options are available upon request. As you cook, take advantage of your time with a local chef to learn about Moroccan food traditions, or ask questions about the foods you’ve discovered while visiting the country.

When the meal is ready, sit down to a classic Moroccan feast at the farmhouse’s outdoor terrace, eating in the shade of thriving fruit trees. Your full-day of Moroccan cooking concludes with return transfer to your hotel.

Best Part of My Trip!

Ava_C, Mar 2020
This class was excellent! I take cooking classes and do workshops all the time and this one was one of the best I've ever taken. The Chef was perfect. She took the time to ensure that everyone understood. I was the only one in the class that did not speak French and she was sure to include me in the instruction. One of the best parts of the day was the time spent learning about the spices. I appreciated that portion of the workshop because it helped me to understand the flavors, not just throw them together. I would certainly recommend this course to anyone looking to learn about HOW Moroccan food works with the spices.

5 Star cooking experience

Doris_H, Feb 2020
This class far exceeded my expectations. I learned techniques for cooking Moroccan food along with tips for my own cooking. The class included participants from four countries; we all felt welcome and this added to the experience. The woman that leads the class is wonderful and made us all feel like we knew what we were doing. Great sense of humor. Eating our own creations as well as those of the other 'students' was a wonderful ending to a enjoyable day.

Wonderful experience. Well organized. I learned much. Great food. Information on spices and blind spice test was enlightening. I will recommend to anyone I know traveling to Marrakech

Good cooking fun

KAY_B, Apr 2019
We had good fun with Ilham cooking our tagines, bread and salads, good instructions and enjoyable. The blind spice test with Michel was a little long and tedious, especially when it was obvious that we didn’t know and I didn’t appreciate the tricks. However, Michel was cheerful and funny. I would have loved to see some of the dessert being prepared as it was delicious. Overall, it was a good day and a lovely farm setting not too far out of Marrakech.

Fantastic

Both Ilman and Michel were brilliant hostes. and experience the secrets off the Morocan cuisine, in the hands of Ilman, was very inspireing

Delicious and insightful!

Kacie_P, Jan 2019
Could not recommend this cooking class more! Michel was very insightful and humorous in providing an overview of Morrocan cuisine and Marrakech itself. We had a broad range of cooking abilities though all managed to create a delicious feast. We will definitely be taking the skills and recipes we learnt back home to share with our friends and family. Thank you!

Great day out.

Can't recommend this highly enough. A proper cookery class not just a demonstration. Very professional but also warm and friendly. English and French speaking attendees but everyone felt included . Finished with lovely communal meal. Pick up and drop off included. I thought it was excellent value for money.

Very enjoyable. Not only did we eat the food we cooked, but we were able to tailor our meals to taste. We were given copies of the recipes, and had an opportunity to purchase spices, food stuffs, and cookware. Bring cash.

From the moment of being picked up from our accommodation in the comfortable mini bus, this was a fabulously informative day, we learned so much about the different spices used in Moroccan cooking as well as learning the techniques of cooking a delicious lamb tagine with prunes and all the accompaniments such as bread, semolina pancakes and salads. Michele and his partner were very entertaining hosts and multilingual too! He explained why certain spices and oils were expensive as well as how to check whether or not certain spices like saffron and Argon oils were genuine as there are many fakes out there in the souks .... So beware!!! Pity we hadn't had this info at the start of our holiday!!! It was reassuring to know that the various goods on sale were genuine and fairly priced too! The farmhouse was delightful with a great relaxed atmosphere, several sleepy cats around and chickens running free in the grounds. Refreshments of tea, water and fresh orange juice was served throughout the day. There was 13 of us, all with our own individual workstations and ingredients. After cooking, we all sat down for a feast by which time it was mid afternoon so ensure you eat a decent breakfast before hand! All in all another fabulous day!

Llamaschool, Dec 2017
Absolutely stellar, a very enriching experience. I think they might do a different menu every day I was there on a Thursday, they mentioned doing a different menu the following day. If that's the case, it might be worth spending several days here. Have a few of your best French jokes ready to shut down the principal chef's husband btw. You'll see what I mean... Come prepared to throw it back in his face, it should add to the fun.

Coral M, Dec 2017
This was the outstanding day of our week in Marrakech. The driver picked us up on time at our hotel and took us and the other participants to the farmhouse for the cookery class. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by Michel who is the epitome of French charm. We were also introduced to Ilham, his wife, who was teaching us that day. Introductions were made over a glass of mint tea - our fellow cooking classmates were, like us, keen cooks and had travelled extensively, so I knew we were going to enjoy the company as well as the class. Ilham demonstrated breadmaking, Batbout bread cooked on the stove top making it look so simple of course. Then Michel tested our knowledge of spices with some blind smelling. We wore special funky purple sunglasses, which was somewhat disorientating, which is of course the purpose, to shut down our senses. Some we all got but others baffled us - we all learned something new though. Then it was our turn to make the bread getting our hands into the flour and getting the right consistency was tricky at first, but Ilham was on hand to put us right. Next we prepared the beef tagine. Ilham talked us through it step by step, from the unique way of chopping onions the Moroccan way, cutting into the onion in a criss cross pattern, to preparing an artichoke which I messed up and then adding the ingredients to the tagine and using the spices, some of which we had been learning about earlier. Once we all had our tagine bubbling on the stove, Ilham prepared three salad dishes to go with our meal, an eggplant salad, a cucumber 'soup' and a tomato, cucumber and grilled pepper salad. While we watched this demonstration we nibbled on some home made savory biscuits which were delicious. Then while we waited for a tagine to finish cooking the class retired to the sunny terrace to chat about our day. The last demonstration was the making of Msemen, which is is a sweet pancake type dessert. The highlight of the day of course was sharing the food we had made on the terrace, with our fellow classmates. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish - we were all reluctant to leave. Michel is a charming host, with a sense of humour that makes the day a relaxed affair. Ilhad is an excellent and patient teacher. While we all learned new skills, most importantly we had fun, had good conversations and enjoyed a traditional meal in a lovely location.

Excellent, friendly and fun, closed on Tuesdays and different food to cook every other day of the week. We went on a Thursday and made the beef Tajine with pears and caramelised orange. We also made the bread to go with it, best meal of the week for me.

We LOVED this day! The activity was so well paced and ended with such a delicious and relaxing meal! We learned and made out bread and tagine. We learned by demo to make several salads. And we assisted with part of making the crepes. On departure we got all the recipes as well as a little bag of spices. This tour is a must do!

dorothybarraclough, Aug 2017
Loved Marrakech but knew before we went August not the best time to go. Baking hot and heat quite exhausting. My biggest tip is not to choose a Riad near main square. They are mostly in one of the tiny alleys which traffic, except mopeds and bikes cannot drive in to consequently it's quite a hike in blazing heat to get anywhere, even to get to a taxi. Also note that most raids do not have lifts and if, like us, you find yourself on the top floor it's quite a hike each time to get to your room/apartment. Bikes and mopeds also a huge problem as they zoom around the tiny alleys at great speed. However apart from all of this, we found the whole experience absolutely fascinating and a completely different kind of holiday to our normal ones. The thing my husband and I both agreed on was the one day Farmhouse cooking course which was great fun and very informative.

An excellent day. Michel and Ilham are wonderful hosts/instructors. From the 'blind' spice tests to eating the fruits of our labors, an instructional and entertaining experience. Learned how to make sure our saffron is legit, how to make Moroccan bread and crepes, Moroccan salads and a wonderful if I say so myself beef tagine with pears and orange. A great experience, excellent value.

Fantastic! Our host was witty and interesting and his wife is a fine teacher. You learn a lot about spices and Moroccan cooking in a comfortable, friendly setting. I have a new respect for Moroccan bread because we made it from scratch and now we know that it takes skill and a lot of labour. We also made a delicious tajine. After our cooking we sat outside on a shaded porch and had a lovely lunch. It was a Marrakech highlight we highly recommend.

Excellent Day! I thoroughly enjoyed the cooking class and learned much about spices, oils, traditional Moroccan cooking, as well as, the culture and history of the region and people. The hosts were charming, funny, attentive and accommodating. By far this was the best well worth the money and time and I would recommend it to everyone. A truly memorable experience.

Michel and Ilman are a wonderful team. Michel's conversation and illuminating workshop on spices to be used in the cooking is very amusing and valueable, and Ilman is a professional chef and a wonderful teacher. The facility is large and lovely and they provide door to door pickup. The other people in our group were pleasant, the food we prepared was delicious, and it was a lovely day in our Marrakech journey. The next day, at the spice market, I used so much of what Michel had taught me.

This course is an absolute must for anyone traveling to Marrakech! Michel and Ilhame were so friendly that it didn't even feel like a class, but more like hanging out with friends and cooking lunch together. We learned so much! Ilhame really goes in depth into teaching us every technique and Michel teaches us about why each spice or ingredient is important. It was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Marrakech!! If we go back again, I'd definitely sign up for the couscous course to continue our Moroccan cooking adventure! O and their spices, olive oil, and aragan oil were so cheap that we picked up a bunch of them for our trip back to the U.S. haha. When you go, you absolutely have to try the olive oil! They press it themselves from the olives in their back yard! It's AMAZING!

I loved this activity. The food that we cooked was amazing and I feel comfortable to try most of the dishes at home. I enjoyed the discussion on spices and olive/aragan oil and how to discuss fakes in the markets. The couple teaching the class was fun and funny and made the entire experience enjoyable.
