Extremely friendly guides and hosts, but somewhat challenging.

The tour is mostly a van ride to the Atlas mountains and a somewhat difficult hike up to a berber village, ending with a 15 minute camel ride. The hike was challenging for this 58-year-old man with a heart condition! You should wear proper shoes and be prepared for the elevation and an uphill hike over rugged rocks and make-shift bridges. I do not think this is a good choice for the elderly or anyone who cannot manage the hike or elevation. Know your personal limits! But it was a great experience. The guides are exceptionally friendly and accommodating. The tour is a family operation. Our guide for the hike was extremely nice and patient. We had to stop several times to catch our breath. Once we reached the berber village, it was like stepping back through time. The scenery was stunning. We had tea and snacks at our guide's grandmother's house. They were all extremely friendly and made us feel incredibly welcome. We then walked back down on a gentle road where we had lunch at the guide's family house. The food was excellent and traditional. I cannot say enough nice things about our driver, guide, and his family. They definitely went out of their way for us! While this excursion was a little more arduous than we planned for, it was a great opportunity for something "different" and "authentic". I really enjoyed this experience, but wish I was better prepared with proper shoes. I wore espadrilles and was ready to burn them once I got back to Marrakech! :)
