Most scary tour of lifetime

We took this on the last day of our stay at Manaus. As per listed Itinerary the tour starts at 8 AM, for 7 hours. Accordingly we were supposed to return by 3 PM. We had a flight at 6 PM from Manaus to Sao Paulo and thought there will be enough time for us to catch the flight on time. After making the booking I got in touch with the tour provider and he replied that we will return in time to take the flight. On the day of the tour we finished the city tour and got into the boat for the river tour. On checking with others in the boat we came to know that the boat would return at 5 PM. When I informed the guide that we needed to return by 3 PM, he said that he can't do anything about it and wd contact the tour provider after arriving at the Lunch place. When contacted the tour provider he started giving different meaning to our WhatsApp chat and bluntly told that he can't do anything about it and we would return only by 5 PM. It was very scary situation for us as we had an International flight to return home the very next day. We thought of hiring a private boat to return and the tour guide helped us in getting one at 250 BRL. We arrived on time to Manaus and transported to our hotel from the Jetty, also dropped to the airport by the Tour provider. Afterwards he immediately changed the tour time to 9 hrs. What was upsetting for us that we were left to fend for ourselves on a foreign land, that to in the middle of a river. The tour provider could have arranged our return and asked us to pay for it. A few bucks extra doesn't hurt, but the way he refused to take any responsibility was very hard for us. It left a very bitter taste about Manaus, which otherwise we loved.

I am sorry for the misunderstanding But on our WhatsApp conversation we had on march 25th (the tour happened two months later, on may 9th) you asked about the time the tour would end and I said it was at 5pm. you said your flight was at 6:15pm my reply was that we would be able to drop you straight to the airport (from downtown to the airport it takes less than 30 minutes) you could have simply cancelled your reservation but you didn't so we were all set. then in the middle of the tour, from the restaurant that we had wifi at lunch time you simply requested to be picked from there, in the middle of a lake in the amazon river, in the amazon jungle you decide that you want to be picked at 1pm that's a too big change on plans and it was not possible because it wasn't a private tour and we had others on the same tour so we had to follow the schedule in respect to them. regards, Milton Fernandes

Started out great then issue…..

Well, the in land was great and informative and included entrance fees. We were picked up at the port with a group of 9 of us. Unfortunately, after that was disappointing how they handled the tour. You do no get the same guide for land and water. We were dropped off at the boat without a guide that was a no show. We asked the current guide “ are you going to leave our party of 9 people to go do another tour for 2?” His answer action was yes! So we were sent on our way on the meeting of the water leg with just the boat operator John, who did his best to complete the trip. Our stop for lunch was late due to the delay on guide and so food was not hot and mostly gone from earlier tours. So yes, we enjoyed the excursion we did care for the hand off and no back up guide available. Keep this in mind as the boat operators dont speak english.

Okay, but left wanting a little more

Spent a lot of time in the banana and fish market, but seemed a little lacking in some of the other parts of the city tour. Unfortunately, no one seemed to know that the Opera House was closed to the private tours the day we were there. Also, while we did see some of the other sights of the city, we didn't spend any time viewing anything except by passing in a car. Near the end we spent time killing time at a park. Then the hand off between the city tour and the Amazon River tour was mishandled poorly. We waited for over 30 minutes sitting in the back seat of a car, waiting for the boat captain to show up. Seemed there was some confusion as to where we would start our River Tour. Because of the late departure and the total misunderstanding of our ships departure sailing time we were rushed and only able to see a few items on that were listed as part of the tour. Everyone very apologetic, but we were just dissapointed. Have done other Viatours and have had exceptional service and experiences.

We are very sorry not to have reached your expectations and even though the opera house administrations doesn't warn us in advance about what they decide to do we are also sorry about that. The captain was not in the wrong place, but the boat you were supposed to go on the second part of the tour had a problem and we had to change boat at the last minute. This was really not the best of the days for us either. So we are totally sorry and willing to fully refund you because of the inconvenience. In fact that's our politics "if our clients are not satisfied they don't have to pay". Best regards. Milton Fernandes

Brilliant day trip to see Manaus and experience the Amazon

Brilliant trip to sample the main sights of Manaus old town and then the Negro and Amazon river. It is a good few hours for this tour so we started on time to view the origin of Manaus. Erivando was our guide. He was from Manaus originally so showed us the sites and explained everything. A highlight was the opera house (ticket included in the price of the tour) and the markets. Then we drove to the boat dock to start on the river Negro with Dennis who showed us to our lunch place and then we sailed through the Amazon canals to the meeting of the waters. That was an amazing spectacle. We arrived back ashore and then got dropped back at our hotel.

Good introduction to Manaus and the Amazon

This was a very nice, slow paced tour that takes you around the old center of Manaus and then a relaxing cruise along the Amazon river. We visited the market, Rio Negro palace, the Amazonas Theatre and a square before goingnon a boat ride. Our guide Denis was very nice, spoke good English and was able to show us around and tell us a lot about the hostory of this city. Once on the boat, we visited a floating restaurant for a nice buffet lunch and then tried a tug-of-war with a pirarucu, the largest fish in the Amazon river. We also stopped by Janauari Park where we saw squirrel monkeys and water lilies. Then it’s time to see the meeting of the two rivers. It was fascinating to see the waters meeting but not mixing. In all, we had a great time and can recommend this tour.

We love everything about this tour! Let’s be honest, most of us don’t know how to speak Portuguese and won’t know where to go in Manaus and the entire Amazonian region. This is not a touristy place, you won’t get far without speaking Portuguese. You definitely need an experienced local guide to show you around. In the morning, one of Martin’s tour guides showed up in the hotel on-time and early, we were in an AC car and learned so much about the city and had great time with the city tour. In the afternoon, we met with Martin, the owner for the tour company. We had tasty buffet lunch in a local restaurant. Martin took us to Amazon River and Rio Nigro river. This tour is not about hiking in the jungle, it’s mostly a peaceful ride for you to experience the Amazon! We saw a few cute monkeys. There are a few minutes of bumpy moments due to wind but it’s definitely manageable. Martin and his tour guides definitely have great wealth of knowledge to share and know this place! We’ve already had a few tours in other cities of Brazil prior to this, and it’s been really difficult to come across an enthusiastic tour guide who speaks good English. Martin definitely is on the top! We had to fly home next day so couldn’t sign up for more tours. I will definitely call Martin when I go to Amazona next time.

Marco was very good. He could speak English very well and we appreciated that. He was also very knowledgeable and took us to lots of places in his small boat that we would not have had a chance to visit otherwise. Hotel pickup is a must for us, so this was great and he was on time. Thanks.
