Our trip was fantastic! Our guide Ariel and his driver Gato were more than accommodating. They were prompt at pick up and were very informative. All of our questions were answered without hesitation. We would highly recommend. I would give ten stars if possible,

We took this from the Limon cruise terminal exit. They were very easy to find, holding up signs and with shirts on immediately when you exited the secured area of the port, but there were many other tour companies there too, so you did have to pick them out. The trip to the rainforest took about an hour. The problem is that the the last 30 minutes going and first 30 returning, were on roads they had to traverse at 2-15 mph. I don't know how the large tour buses managed it in one piece. Maybe it was more comfortable for their passengers but we were in about a 10-12 person van and bumpy doesn't begin to describe it. Typically this is not something I would complain about, but it was just so lengthy and made me kind of carsick. It definitely makes me wonder if the roads to the more distant rainforest parks are as bad. Sure, they are further away, but if you can travel at a higher rate of speed in a whole lot more comfort, it would be well worth it and really might not take any longer.
As far as the excursion goes, it was good and our guide was nice, although I've forgotten her name now. The walk from the entrance to the canopy tram was relatively flat and easy. However, there are two trails after exiting the tram. The tour will do each one and you don't have to do either. I'd estimate each being about a 10-15 minute walk if in shape. The one to the falls has 350 steps (vertical, not forward) round trip, going both up and down each way but a little more down heading out, with about the last 30 steps being consecutive to a platform for viewing the falls, which aren't large. They make it sound easier than it is. I'm a 40# overweight 64 year old male who's out of shape. I don't do steps well but can walk on level ground all day. THIS WORE ME OUT! Even though I went at a slower pace than the group and my 70 year old more overweight wife who doesn't do steps well at all followed further behind. We didn't do the last 30 steps which turned out to be a wise decision. My wife headed back before the rest of the group and I followed behind her about 3 minutes later, already tired but figuring I'd easily catch her. Well, I never did! I was truly exhausted and caught her back at the tram station! I was so proud of how well she did!!! I didn't even expect her to go more than 200 feet before turning around and she virtually did the whole thing. At the tram station is where the head of each trail is. After spending a few minutes there, where there is also a nice restroom, the group headed up the other trail. I don't recall any steps on that one with just a slight gain in elevation i'd say, so it was easy. You don't need hiking shoes or shoes that you aren't afraid to get muddy because it isn't dirt and the entire thing may actually be paved. I know most of it is. We did use bug spray and there were a few that tried to bother us but it was essentially nothing.
I was disappointed in the tram ride. Part was because it turned out to be a ride from the top of the mountain to the bottom. Yes we were in the tree canopies but I expected it to be longer (it was about 8 minutes each way) and truly through the treetops more eyelevel with the wildlife. That's the other thing. We saw very little wildlife. Maybe I was expecting too much. I hoped to see many colorful birds. Toucans, parrots and so forth flying around, many frogs, sloths, monkeys and so on and hearing the sounds of the animals in the jungle. Guess what the particular sound they pointed out to us was? A cicada. A freaking cicada. And not the sound of thousands of them. Just singular ones. Now we dont have them this time of year in Alabama (well we do but they are dormant underground) but when they hatch for a couple of weeks in the summer, the woods are screaming with the sound of them and they are flying everywhere. At least we saw some monkeys but probably fewer than 10, they pointed out a few small colorful frogs and a few distant sloths. I also expected more colorful flora. It wasn't a great deal of difference than walking through the forest at home in the summer. Yes, it was more dense, but not tremendously so and not a bit more colorful and probably less so. Everything was just different shades of green and there were no dramatic views or scenery. Let's just say that I was happy to have been up close with sloths and monkeys before because we sure weren't here. Also, there were 2 people on the van ride with us that did the zip line tour instead of the tram/hike portion of the tour. The entrance to both are located where they let us out of the van.
The canal boat ride was also disappointing. It's a little hard to describe, but you certainly aren't going through the jungle. It's a canal or river very close to the industrial port and it runs right along a busy road although it's separated from it by a few trees. The water is very muddy and it's not scenic whatsoever. However, we did see a few birds, primarily herons and similar types, and were closer to the sloths they spotted, along with some monkeys, so the wildlife portion was better. However, even though promoted as an hour, I don't think we were even in the boat for 30 minutes. Then again, the boast went less than 1 mile upstream before turning around and I'm guessing about 1 mile downstream before turning around. They did turn the boat around and also give people opportunities to step to the open front for everyone to get pictures when the wildlife was seen.
All in all, I'm going to give it a 4 out of 5. I'm tempted to give it a 3 but maybe my expectations were too high. However, it can't come close to a 5/5 like the Na'pali coast boat tour on Kauai was. Based on that, I think I will give it a 3, especially since I really would have been almost as happy watching this on a video on my couch as I was actually doing it. I definitely would try a different rainforest or some other type of adventure.

Thank you for letting us know about your visit. We’re sorry it didn’t fully meet your expectations, and we appreciate the chance to improve. Please accept our apologies for the aspects of the tour that fell short. Your comments have been shared with our team, and we’re committed to doing better.
Unfortunately aspects as the road state is totally out of our control. Regarding the trails and steps, Veragua is located in a pristine rainforest, located in an isolated are with minimum impact of human activities. This makes the reserve unique. Unfortunately you visited a real rainforest, not a theme park.
We hope you’ll give us another opportunity to provide the exceptional experience we aim for.

We had a goid day with Ariel and the tour. This was not a polished experience but done with the best of intentions and with care. The man's seating was pretty tight and the driver missed a turn. Our canal boat ride was in the city and it ran around on a marked shallow point.
There was a lot of talk about the conversion to green energy as we witnessed the poverty of the areas we were driving. It seems tge people would be much better off if the high cost of green energy would be put to work for them. They could have lower energy costs, better transportation, and lower taxes rather than less reliable green energy.
Ariel worked to make it the best experience possible and we felt very good about him.
The gondola ride and walks were beautiful and their guide made it a fun experience.
Overall we had fun and enjoyed Ariel's adventure. We do think going with a Holland America tour would have been more comfortable and curated.

The driver guide was great but the walking guide was dry and seemed disinterested. Overall, it was not a great activity. Having been in Costa Rica and knowing what it has to offer, this was a boring excursion.

Thank you for your report. Guide and driver are operated by Greenway Tours. But resident guide at Veragua is offered by them. WE will pass your report to the company in order to request increase the quality standards.

long and slow with no excitement. this was a disappointing rainforest since there was no rain, were no birds or animals. we saw plants and insects.
canals tour also boring with monkeys in thevtrees and 2 sloths. i think they cut our trip short as we were the first boat back to dock.

I will better not comment your review
Valerie_H, Feb 2025
The rainforest was beautiful. We saw many poisonous frogs, snakes and ants. This part was worthwhile. The boat ride was not worth it. Our group was in a van and we pulled up to go on boat and they made us wait until a bus came. When the bus came they out all of those passengers in the boat first and had us sit in the very back. We were the last couple and sat right beside the stinky motor. We could hear nothing the tour guide was saying. Then it started raining and we got soaked from the side and the back. Not their fault it rained but not sure why bus passengers were loaded first. The boat ride was about 30-40 minutes because it rained too much. The 45 people on the boat was way too much. This tour was not worth the $350 we paid for the 2 of us.

Thank you very much for your review of our tour.
We always try to do our job in the best way, and we are sorry that you experienced this inconvenience today. We will try the best way to improve so that a situation of this type does not happen again.
On this date our supplier have to attend too many cruise ship passengers and this cause some inconveniences out of our control. The day was too rainy and this affected the well operation of the activities. Regarding the price, this tour includes other venues that you didn´t mention

Horrible. Picked up at port in a van, left a few minutes late, but after traveling 20-30 minutes in heavy traffic, turned around and went back to the port as they had left two people at the port . That was the first of many problems that day. Drove on a horrible bumpy road for miles to where we were supposed to have a moderate hike. Bad description as it was difficult with many rugged stairs and climbing. Hard to hold on while climbing due to fear of poisonous snakes, frogs and bugs sometimes spotted on the railings. Our guide was a nice young lady and that was the only nice thing. Not everyone tried the walk and waited for at the visitor center. Upon return, we reboarded van for another rough 30 minutes ride on the same road yo the boat area. We had to wait there forca bus that arrived, they got to board the boat first and my husband got stuck in the back with the gas motor fumes right in our faces. On the boat ride, it began to rain and where we were stuck in the back of the boat we got soaking wet from head to foot. No one seemed to care.. had another uncomfortable ride back to the port and the driver left us off in a huge puddle so my feet were wet also. It was the most uncomfortable trip I ever went on and I was sore all night.
I would not recommend this trip to anyone and the driver and the post on the bus spoke poor English, and we’re not very good at making us feel comfortable.
others on the trip felt the same way.

We are sorry if you book a Nature Tour and as I can read, you are not a nature lover person. The tour description was clearly and specified a rain forest tour
Veragua is a very large private biological reserve and on this tour you will enjoy nature in its entirety, where frogs, snakes, insects and many animals in general live. If you are afraid of these, I think you were on the wrong excursion. The trails in this reserve are very well maintained and are inspected very well before each operation, to ensure that there are no inconveniences.
Regarding your comment that the bus left a few minutes late, I remind you that almost 3,000 passengers have to leave the ship through only 2 doors and this can cause some delays. Our policy is that we can wait up to 15 minutes after 8:00 am to wait for all the clients.
I also tell you that to go to a rainforest that is in a protected area, you have to travel roads that are not completely paved. Once the bus left the highway, it took the secondary route to the reserve. This is part of the adventure to get to this destination that is of great interest to true nature lovers.
Regarding the cable car trip, the description states that it is a trip deep into the jungle, and that when you get to the other side, you will take a tour along the trails, which have steps to go down to the waterfall and viewpoints. The tour visits the natural rainforest, not a Disney attraction. I am sorry about this. You should have read the description of the tour well.
Regarding the tour in the Tortuguero canal, unfortunately this day there was a lot of rain due to a tropical storm that is not in our hands to control and I am sorry that you got wet. These are situations beyond our control and for you it was a crisis that you could not handle.
This day there was a lot of water everywhere and the driver could not choose a perfect place so that you would not get your feet wet. Unfortunately it was an unusual day that we know affected the mood of the clients.

Ronald guide and Juan Carlos driver were awesome. Very knowledgeable and quick to point out sloths and many many other animals, stopping immediately to make sure we could all see. Juan Carlos even saw a local produce truck and jumped off to get us all fresh bananas! Great trip , would definitely book again!

The views were beautiful and I enjoyed the short hike and tram ride but the guide was difficult to understand. She also didn’t pay attention to the customers. Some had difficulty with steps and she should have told them to sit at a certain spot to wait for the rest of the group. Our boat captain and guide were not very professional. They talked a lot amongst themselves and didn’t pay much attention to the group.

Excellent; driver and guide in the van were the best. Small group of about eight made it very personable and these two made the excursion especially fun.
So glad I did not take the one associated with our cruise line which cost more and was slower to get on the road to the destination!

It was a fun tour! We beat the cruise ship crowds and took this fun tour. It included a short tram ride through the rainforest, a hike on either a flat trail or up and down multiple steps to a beautiful waterfall. We asked for both and they were happy to accommodate. Then a boat ride in a Canal where the drivers were very good at spotting wildlife. We saw sloths, blue butterflies, and howler monkeys! The drive to and from the rainforest was a bit longer that we expected, (about an hour), but our guide stopped frequently to show us interesting plant life and narrated the entire trip with interesting facts.
