Rainbow mountain tour review

IWAKO_K, Jan 2026
We were woken up and rushed by the tour guide Jose even if we had some 15min before the said pickup time. He was in a hurry to make the breakfast stop, rainbow mountain stop and back to lunch stop so much so that we just felt rushed the whole time. He was very very unprofessional. He only knew 2 phrases. We recommend you go to the toilet here and we recommend you eat quickly. Very very unprofessional. On our way back, he proceeded to make extra money by picking up local passengers from the road!!! Our private tour literally became a public service. The rainbow mountain was beautiful. The experience was a nightmare. Name of the guide Jose and his driver who played loud music throughout at 4am in the morning! Very very unprofessional viator tour!

Trusted company for great adventure

Ann_S, Dec 2025
Best experience on your first hand tours , staff and everyone involved in making this trip in Peru a life time memories. Thank you all greatly and I am already looking to book more trips with your company , just book you will not be disappointed

Misleading

Soraya_m, Oct 2025
Very disorganized tour. I felt I needed more information that was not provided. I never got to meet the people who were supposed to be in the group, except one couple once. Machu Picchu was a disastrous day, rainy day, got soaked ( I was informed it would be hot and advised to wear light clothing ). Luckily, I wore warm clothing. Consequently, I got the flu.

Could have been much better.....

SuitFong_C, Jul 2025
This is my first time visiting Peru. Connecting with VIPAC was my first contact with a Peruvian. My contact with one Mr Vjajes Pacifico of VIPAC was most disappointing; he has zero understanding of customer service. He was rude and most arrogant. If this tour did not fit into my schedule, I would not have bothered to proceed with it as my first experience with a Peruvian let a lot to be desired. All I did was queried about the substantially much hiked up pricing (compared to what is stated on the official website) of an additional route to go up Machu Picchu, he immediately retaliated arrogantly with an attitude of take it or leave it! and refused to continue the conversation. I have to explain to him that it is normal for a customer to enquire about pricing. He still behaved as though I owed him a living! In all my years of travel yearly across the world, Mr Vjajes Pacifico is indeed the poorest representation of his country, giving Peruvian an extremely bad image. I would have given VIPAC a rating of 0/1 instead of 4 if not the excellent qualities of the guides who worked tirelessly to ensure we have an enjoyable trip. The various VIPAC guides on various parts of the tour went the extra mile to ensure we are well taken care of. VIPAC will be much better off to sack or remove Mr Vjajes Pacifico permanently from employment. If he is the boss, then he should remove himself from doing frontline work. If he is kept on, he must be re-trained properly. I am very glad that I proceeded with the trip despite my first initial misgivings, the VIPAC guides are the true representation of what Peru people and culture should be - thank you very much for showing me and my friend that part, despite the initial very bad experience that still left much distaste in the mouth until today.

Bucket list trip for us - and this tour company knocked it out of the park. Incredible communication, everything well planned out, drivers and transportation always on time, staff super easy to work with (great english), very safe..... We have been around the globe a few times now, and would HIGHLY recommend this company. 10/10 worth it.

Highly recommend

Olivia_T, Mar 2025
I did a solo vacation for my 31st birthday and I highly recommend this company. They are well organized and you'll always have a contact. Lots of learning but also lots of free time. I’ll be posting vlogs on my YouTube channel often-solo.

Great Lima & Cusco tours!

Yunsung_C, Jan 2025
This tour was very efficient and thought out for the tourists. It starts with Lima city tour then fly into Cusco and start out with Cusco city tour in the afternoon so that our body can adjust to the high altitude. Then, gradually move onto different types of archaeological sites. Then finally onto Machu Picchu. My schedule was around 7 am. It may sound early but I was glad that I went that early because when I returned back to the town, there were so many people waiting in line to get on the bus to Machu Picchu. The line looked like it was a few blocks long. Every guide I encountered with were very nice and helpful with anything I needed.

Response from Host, Jan 2025

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We’re delighted to hear that you appreciated the efficiency and planning of the tour. Ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for our travelers is always our top priority, and we’re glad the itinerary allowed you to gradually acclimate to the altitude while exploring Cusco's incredible sights. Starting early at Machu Picchu is indeed a great choice—it truly enhances the experience and avoids the heavier crowds later in the day. We're also thrilled to hear that our guides provided you with excellent assistance and made your journey even more enjoyable. Thank you for choosing us for your adventure, and we hope to welcome you back for more unforgettable experiences in the future!

It is nice to have Felix as our guider

Yanyan_M, Dec 2024
I especially want to thank Felix who gave us many help when my husband stayed in the hospital in Cusco. He talked with our doctor and translate the language for us. He also adjusted our schedule and gave us many helps. Felix is a very nice and reliable person.

Great time in Peru

Shannon_M, Aug 2024
Great tour. I would’ve liked a bit more time in Ollantaytambo, it felt rushed there. Everywhere else the timing was good. Our guides were excellent throughout and the communication using WhatsApp worked great.

Great but there is room for improvement

Loujaine_A, Jun 2024
The trip was great and memorable, however, there are a few areas that need improvement: - It would be great to get a detailed schedule ahead of the trip. We were given an AM/PM schedule, however, we did not know what time we start and end our days until the night before. So sometimes it was difficult to plan ahead in terms of dinner reservations and other activity bookings. - We booked a "Double Room" which in standard hotel terms means one room with a double/queen/king bed, and it was clear in our reservation booking. We arrived the first night and found out that the room is a bedroom with two twin beds. As the first night of our vacation, this was not a good start and the hotel couldn't change us to another room on that first night. Also, the operator assured us that they will ensure this will not happen in our other hotel rooms in Cusco and Machu Picchu Town. However, the same situation happened again when we arrived in Cusco and we had to wait for more than an hour for the operator and the hotel to sort out the situation. Potential recommendation would be to ask the travelers what type of bedroom they want to ensure proper room allocation. - There were two lunches included in the package both buffet style which we didn't mind. However, the one we went to in Machu Picchu was poorly managed and the food quality control was negligible. My husband found a worm inside the cooked potato he was about to eat, and when reported the restaurant did not reacted. Therefore, the operator should reconsider the lunch options provided to travelers. - The trip mentions that 7 nights accommodations is included, however, it is only 6 night accommodations. We arrived on May 25 and our last hotel stay was May 30. The biggest positive about this trip are the amazing tour guides for the different attractions. Especially Paul in Macchu Picchu.

Should be more clear that the tours lima in c luded are just 1. Had an excellent tour of the old city. Had to pay for extras on the other day

Experience of a lifetime

Elizabeth_E, Mar 2022
We went during the pandemic after it was safe enough to travel. Peru is beautiful, and this tour made all the difference. We experienced Lima, Cusco, Aguas Calientes, and Machu Picchu to the fullest. The guides were phenomenal, the sites were breath-taking, and the food was to die for. We can't recommend this tour highly enough.

Response from Host, Apr 2022

Thank you very much for your words and awardness to the service of our organization and guides. Peru has many reasons to come again, we hop to see you soon in our northern lands or jungles.

Lima, Cusco, Aguas Calientes

Eric_J_USA, Mar 2020
The airport transfers were all very timely and efficient. The hotels were nice, per se, but after exploring the towns (Lima, Cusco, Aguas Calientes) the locations were not ideal. Having opted for the most costly accommodations on the tour, I think that having nice hotels in more centrally-located areas would have been preferable. The tours of Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu were all very good. I would have preferred to tour Machu Picchu the day after arrival in Aguas Calientes (not the same day), as the 4am wake up call, 5 am two-hour bus ride and 90-minute train ride led straight to the MP tour - that was an exhausting day! Overall, I would recommend this tour to travelers. Do some research beforehand to see where your preferred hotel locations are and ask for those when booking.

Guides, Rides and Vistas

pilotte5, Oct 2019
Every guide we had was on time, courteous, proficient in English and knowledgeable. How those divers maneuvered the bus so well in traffic was a miracle! Not knowing the hotel names and pick up times in advance was a little unnerving but the system of leaving messages at the front desk worked ok. We selected the first class upgrade but in our opinion, the rooms were just standard. We had to pay extra in Aquas Calientes to avoid getting a room facing a busy street. Because we arrived in Lima by cruise ship rather than plane, figuring out how to get to our hotel was a major headache. No thanks here to Viajes Pacifico who offered no alternatives. Can't remember all the guides names but special thanks to Stefanie, Laura, River, Johnny and all the touring staff who were so helpful.

No communication between Viator and Vajiles Pacifico

Svetlana G, Oct 2019
For a booked tour this tour caused me more stress than I can handle. Before I arrived I sent my flight details about 3 times, and they did not input them into their system. I was paranoid I would not be picked up. Upon arrival, I was told I would be left a message. No one ever left messages for me other than 2 nights. When I flew out to Cusco, it was emphasized that I have to arrive before 10 as the tour starts in the afternoon. It was actually 2 pm for the city tour. I could have booked a later flight and slept in. Also, they brought me to the airport 3 hours early for a domestic flight in the morning when it was not busy.... leaving me lethargic for the 2 pm tour. The cuty tour was dull in Cusco, but amazing in Lima. Sawsaywaman was fine, nothing to complain about. Matchu Pitchu where I am now was fine. The thing that irritates me is that they did not give a detailed itinerary of times, not keep adequate records. For Day 7 (no accomadation) I was told that I would be picked up from the airport and transferred to my hotel, and to let the company know once I booked my hotel. I booked it the morning of the flight to Cusco. I gave the drivers details of my hotel and departure back in Lima several times to convey and organzie. Some other travellers had issues so the guide showed up to my hotel. He asked if he could help with anything, I wanted a confirmation. Again no information about my arrival and hotel was conveyed, so nothing was organized. He told me to contact Viator, Biator said talk to local company, then he said “sorry miss cant help” If I knew this company was such a hassle I would have never booked a 7 day tour and expect departures and arrivals to be taken care of. Book the activities yourself rather than dealing with this company.

Response from Host, Oct 2019

Dear Svetlana G, Thank you for taking the time sharing you experience with us, we appreciate each of your comments and we highly regret about the points you were uncomfortable with, causing a bad perspective of our services. Please note that in points as the pickup times to the airport and flight itinerary recommendations these are based on previous experiences such as the heavy traffic jam in Lima, as for flight arriving in Cusco before 10am it is because many people suffer from altitude sickness therefore it is recommended to rest a few hours before starting physical activities. We would also like to thank you for bringing to our attention the disadvantage with the detailed itinerary; we would like to make a deeper investigation about our communications with you, that’s why we will require some more information such as your full name and reservation code of your booking with us in order to give you a proper response, please e-mail the required information to: calidad@vipac.pe We will be looking forward to hearing from you. Once again, we regret the incidents that took place in you excursion. Our area will continue working harder in order to assure our service quality. Warm Regards, Quality Department Viajes Pacífico

well organized tour of Peru highlights

Helen Z, Oct 2019
We were satisfied with Viajes Pacifico's 7 days tour. they were very good, pick ups, transfers were all ontime, everything went smooth. Most Guides were good. every day we got message from our hotel front desk regarding information for next day. Although on the transfer from Cusco to Machu Picchu there were no guide with us on the train, but we were directed in every station by Pacifico's local guide. no worries all the way from beginning to the end. We gladly recommand this tour company.

Best Trip to Date

Joel_D, Sep 2019
Viator was the first trip organised for us in South America.. I was impressed. The buses were always on time, new and always clean. The drivers knew where they were going. The guides spoke perfect English and Spanish and even the local Incan language. The only thing I regret is not scheduling a longer tour. Our seven day tour took us from Panama to Lima Peru, to Cuzco to Machu Pichu back to Cuzco Lima and back to Panama. We saw it all but as seniors, we were exhausted. It also meant early departure for many of the trips for our Itinerary. All the events were paid for and precision timing. Our only extra costs were some meals and purchases. We will schedule this trip organizer for out next trip

machu picchu

GUADALUPE_M, Sep 2018
visiting a place where the Incas lived was an awesome experience - the actual visit to Machu Picchu was VERY rushed - we were staying overnight - I think the visit should be the next day of our arrival to Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguascalientes). We start our day at 2:45 am and make it by Machu Picchu by 8:30am - and we are done by noon. We have not choice on time to visit - maybe we want to go from noon to 4pm instead of at 8:30. I think we should have chance to have an option on this day of even to visit machu picchu the next day early with no need to get up as early as 2:45 am. we are either to sleepy or tired to enjoy train ride in the morning and to tired to fully enjoy tour. I would prefer to go in the morning the next day or go in the afternoon the day of arrival. The hotels at Lima, cusco and Machu Picchu were good. Service at breakfast at the Ferre Hotel was excellent. at the other locations service was good. Guides were very good "Gaby" at the city tour at Lima was excellent. Transportation was good. Our transport at Lima from hotel to airport was very late, it did not cause any problems, just the waiting.

Overall, a great trip and all the...

Johnny_S, Jun 2018
Overall, a great trip and all the previous reviews already addressed both the good issues which I concur. So I'll list some small discrepancies on the itinerary as well some thoughts on the various rules that I read prior to this trip. 1 On Day 1, the itinerary says we would go to Huaca Pucllana but all the guide did was drive around the outside and didn't take us for the 1-hour tour. On my own in Day 2, I did the tour. It also mentions going to Huaca Huallamarca but they didn't take us there either. There should be frequent communication with Viajes Pacifico to ensure that the itineraries are updated often. 2 While breakfast was offered at my hotels, sometimes the pickup is before the 6:00 AM breakfast time forcing you to miss breakfast. In Cusco on the van ride to be picked up for the train station, expect to be picked up at 3:30 AM. At least in Hotel Warari in Cusco they gave me a small takeout bag breakfast. 3 At Machu Picchu, after the morning tour and after the buffet lunch, the guards at the entrance allowed us to re-enter on our own despite the rules of those who enter in the morning are not allowed to re-enter in the afternoon. Furthermore, the so-called rule of having visitors hiring and being escorted by a guide was not enforced either as I was able to enter on my own un-escorted in that afternoon and the following day when with my own ticket I re-entered for a second day. I think the only time the staff will intervene is if you vandalize or possibly if you walk backwards on the one-way walking path. 4 If you intend to go to Machu Picchu on the second day, it's best to buy the bus ticket at the bank in Cusco. Be sure to have your passport available. 5 Notifications for the schedule on the next day are given to your hotel staff. So whenever you return to your hotel, be sure to ask the front desk staff for any messages from Viajes Pacifico. 6 It says that in Day 3 upon arriving to Cusco, I'd be welcomed with coca infusion tea mate de coca that will help you to get used to the altitude. Nobody offered me such a tea. In the hotel lobby, there was some self-serve tea available. Again, great trip overall and I just want you to be aware of these issues above.

Carol C, Apr 2018
Went on a multi-generational girls trip with my mom, sis, and niece age 6. Once in a lifetime experience! Bucket list check, check. Viajes Pacifico was awesome. From meeting us at Lima airport with signs to guiding us every transfer through the Inca trail. Incas dont mess around. The trail to the lost in a city was no joke. All of the guides were great but special recognition to Johnny for his passion about Machu Picchu aka his office. He made the tour more interesting and enjoyable. We stayed at Jose Antonio Deluxe in Lima. It was very close to Miraflores a trendy part of the city. Hotel and Lima was modern, clean, fun and safe feeling. Wonderful ice cream at Wongs shopping. The concierge at Jose Antonio really hooked it up for us at a seafood restaurant beachside called Cala. Trip to Cusco started with an ungodly early departure to the airport. Tip: you need to book your own flights to Cusco, book a flight between 9-11 am departure. We again stayed at Jose Antonio in Cusco. Hotel was a little further away from the main city square but still clean and well kept. Really enjoyed the tour of Sasaywawa. Be aware of altitude sickness. We came well prepared with meds but there were a few other travellers in our small group tour that did not and suffered. The bus ride to the train station was not fun. Winding, narrow roads that seemed impossible for a bus, but Peruvian bus drivers are pretty talented. We took that Vistadome train to Aguas Calientes. Beautiful scenery the whole way. We were pretty well fed by the tour. Daily breakfast starting at 5 am through all of the hotels. You get a pastry snack on the train and in Machu Picchu tour provided a buffet lunch at the Santuary Lodge. We stayed at Casa Andina in Aguas Calientes which included dinner the first night. Our last day in Aguas Calientes we went to the hot springs. Tip: no need to book the hot springs tour through Viator. You can walk to the hot springs and it only costs 20 soles/person. Go in the morning!!! I had read the bad reviews on TripAdvisor about them so we had really low expectations. In the end it was a lot of fun and cleaner in the morning. Overall, this tour offered a good balance between guidance and free time which was perfect for our family. It was well priced compared to tours through Condor or Belmont. Highly recommend!

The local tour company that Viator...

William C, Feb 2018
The local tour company that Viator used was on top of their game! Everything went off without a hitch. Please be aware that it is the customers responsibility to book the air travel from Lima to Cusco! Lima is a fascinating city with more to do than the time allotted. Plan ahead, to see what is important to you. Note that Viator offers many different day tours. The same holds true for Cusco. Remember to be aware of the elevation and possibility of altitude sickness. The village of machu picchu is very small but I enjoyed the shops all geared towards tourists. An overnight in machu Picchu does not mean sleeping in the monument itself but in the village below. If you're a avid hiker a want to hold a mountains adjacent to the monument itself prebook!!! Many of these well out long before you arrive. I spent the extra day at the hot springs with a view of the mountains. The train ride was great and is run first class! Enjoy your trip!

This trip was everything as...

Christopher_J, Jan 2018
This trip was everything as advertised. The reason I chose this particular tour was because of all the positive feedback from these reviews. So now here I sit just returning from this vacation and I will tell anyone reading this the same as all the other 5 star reviews. We felt safe the entire time, everyone we spoke with were friendly. The tour company was prompt and informative. The hotels and food were above average with no issues. The only advice on a negative tone from our experience is to not book your Lima to Cusco flight thru Peruvian airlines. They have older airplanes with older logistics. We got stuck in Lima an additional 24 hours because of the low cloud cover/rain in Cusco. Some of the other local airlines were still able to land. We lost 2 tours and 24 hours in Cusco. This is valuable info I wish I had known while planning this trip. The rest of this tour was simply amazing and I would do it all over again but there's just too many other jewels out there to be discovered. However, I do admit even tho it has been a week today since we returned that I can not get Machu Picchu out of my head. Experience of a Lifetime !

Bec A, Jan 2018
Great tour! Very well organised. You're not with the same group all the time so as a solo traveller this was great to meet people and also have some independence. Most of the tours are single day tours and you usually have the afternoon to do your own thing so I would organise different outings myself. Accommodation was excellent and the pick up service was very prompt. I felt super safe as a solo female traveller on this tour. The trip to Machu Picchu was fantastic! Put it on your bucketlist!

Susan L G, Oct 2017
An amazing journey! Accommodation in Lima, Cusco and Aguascalientes was very clean, great buffet breakfasts in particular El Tambo 1 in Lima, all staff in the various hotels were very friendly and helpful. The hotels were very convenient to our interests in the cities. Viajes Pacifico were well organised to cope with the continuing stream of tourists visiting the many sites of interest provided in the tour. We felt supported, knew the goals of the day programs, and had our questions answered promptly. Machu Picchu was a spectacular lived experience, an amazing engineering feat. Through the knowledgeable guides we really appreciated the significance of the INCA achievement and its impact on Andean communities today. Thank you, Viator, it was a great decision to travel with you!

Hung, Oct 2017
Travel to Machu Picchu is not easy trip the logistic involved is quite complicated but this tour offered by Viator made everything easy. The tour operator Viajes Pacifico, from picking up in LIM airport until dropping off at CUZ airport with boarding pass ready is nothing short of excellence in their service. My wife and I had a wonderful time to Machu Picchu!

Holland_H, Oct 2017
Our tour guides were all wonderful. Really, really wonderful. However, communication from Viator was not good. We were never told we to look for someone at the Lima airport for a transfer to our hotel so we ended up spending 40 US to get to the first night's stay. Our hotels were constantly being changed from the original hotels we were told. this can make things difficult when trying to relay information to loved ones in other countries. Additionally, our hotel in Cusco was NOT GOOD. We paid for the upgraded trip, yet there were people on the tour that did not pay for upgrades and stayed in better hotels. I felt ripped off! The Eco Inn was basic very Holiday Inn- beds were VERY uncomfortable, internet was spotty, breakfast was not good, shower water temperature was never consistent I took a cold shower one day . When I expressed my concern to the contracted out tour group I was told that I would have to pay for the cancellation fee to get a better hotel!!!!!!!!!! Also, Spanish speaking tours got a guide for the 3 hour train from Cusco to Aguas Calientes. The guide talked to whole time to the group giving them information and funny stories and we just sat there with not information. Very disappointing.

This was just what we're were looking for. We had plenty of time to explore on our own and did not have to worry about transfers and hotels. Getting our questions answered before hand was a bit difficult. We were a bit insecure about who was meeting us. When calling, finding a English speaking person was a challenge but it all worked out. gdivitto, Jul 2017
We enjoyed Lima and Cusco. Some of the guides could have been better. Unfortunately there was a 48 hours strike and transportation came to a standstill. We were supposed to go to Machu Pichu on Friday, but Viajes Pacifico failed to pick us up at the hotel. The lady in the Viajes Pacifico computer apologized for their error, but we did not see Machu Pichu, which was the main reason for this trip.
