Short and sweet fun activity ! I would definitely recommend this if you’re looking for a unique souvenir to bring back home.

Yuhi was very patient and engaging. We immediately felt welcome. I was happy with the plate. We also had a great conversation about places to visit in Kyoto.

This was a quick and fun activity to do with my 11 year old! I highly recommend it as a way to make a great souvenir and escape the rain/heat!

It was okay
We did paint some small plates
If you wanted a bigger plate you had to paint the difference but it was a good hour to do something as a family

This experience is AWESOME!! The perfect way to spend an hour or so with my family. Everyone enjoyed it immensely and allowed every member of our family to be creative and make something that we can take home and enjoy forever. Mabia, our artistic guide, was phenomenal in explaining the history behind the process. Would HIGHLY recommend for young and old alike!

Great crafting activity for artsy kids! Sabbie and Saori were very patient with us! We had a messy 4 year old and a late arrival.
Nichole_P, Jun 2026
Really fun and easy indoor activity. It’s quite relaxing and really fun to create a beautiful piece of art to take home. Highly recommend even for those who are not artistic

Ali was amazing and definitely was knowledgeable of the tradition. She even appeased our family’s competitive nature and pointed out what we all did well. Lol!!!

We had a hard time finding the location. Through the kindness of strangers we made it to the workshop. We had a lot of fun. The instructors were great especially Natalie

Class was great however the location address provided was wrong and this resulted in a group of 6 persons being late for the class unfortunately.

My wife and I absolutely LOVED this activity. We are really into crafts, and Wil and Rina were great about walking us through the process of kintsugi. My wife is meticulous, and they didn't mind us staying an extra hour for her to finish. Wil even kept us company and told us some fascinating history of Kyoto. I would love to do their other classes.

Will, Kelsey and Rina were wonderful and made the experience fun! Would highly recommend and a great souvenir.

It’s an ancient tradition that originated in Kyoto, so it’s befitting to learn this beautiful zen craft/art in its birth place! The attending staff/teachers are very welcoming and helpful. I’m glad I decided to try Kinsuji at this workshop. It was a fun and memorable experience.

Kintsugi making experience in a workshop near Gion in Kyoto, with very limited support. All tools provided. Disappointin due to Wil, the attendant, who supposed to help was permanently talking about nothing, offering other places to visit, where to have dinner, sharing phots of Kyoto, etc, instead of helping the kintsugi making process. He didnt tell much about best practice, or what technics to use to achieve best result. Also need to mention, in the base price on Viator a cheap looking plate, you need to pay a few tousends more if you want to do the kintsugi with a nicer - but still unnrabed - one.

So much fun to go through the process of designing a plate in this method. You don’t have to be artistic to do this class. Just follow the instructions and you will create a beautiful memento of your trip to Japan.

We enjoyed this small group, relaxing hands-on activity to learn about Japanese kintsuge art culture. The instructors were friendly and helpful.

We unfortunately weren't given any direction at all. We sat down with our pre-broken plate in front of several supplies and basically had to figure it out on our own after they gave us the glue. The other table had an English speaking instructor (we didn't, absolutely no offense for that fact). We had a fine time with our table mates, but it would have been great if everyone sat down and they did an instructional talk about all the steps and background of Kintsugi before we even started the workshop.

This was a lot of fun and I learned a lot. Will and Alice were very helpful and Will shared a lot of useful info about Kyoto.

Wil was my instructor and he was very welcoming and instructive! He explained the process very well and made sure I was well informed about Kyoto. Would definitely recommend!

Wonderful experience, the workers spoke excellent english and were very knowledgeable about the nearby area. We had Wil and Patrick helping us!

In short – it’s a tourist trap.
First, you choose a pre-cut plate.
The default option is a boring, flat white plate.
If you want something more interesting, you have to pay extra. If you want something similar to what is shown in the booking photos, the price almost doubles.
The materials are modern and industrial. I did expected them to replace the traditional mugi-urushi glue, which takes weeks to dry, but using masking tape, double-sided tape, and alcohol spray is just ridiculous.
The hosts are foreigners. There’s nothing wrong with that, but you are not learning from an experienced master. You’re guided by someone who arrived in Japan less than a year ago.
There almost no historical context or explanation.
There are about 30 people in the room across four tables. It’s loud, and there is no attempt to maintain a quiet or focused atmosphere. This completely ruins the meditative aspect that authentic kintsugi is known for.
The entire experience lasts just over an hour, from entry to exit, including packing your plate.
My recommendation - find a better alternative and avoid this one.

Thunder and Sabbie were amazing!! We had such a great experience learning about the art of Kintsugi — highly recommend!!
Rosa_P, Mar 2026
Great experience with Tara, Ash and Sabbie. They explain us everything very well and we had a great time with them. High recommended!
Harry_W, Mar 2026
Leave a little extra time to find the place unless you are familiar with the area and can read street signs. We were a little late, but Mariz and Ash were excellent and got us set up and going in no time.
Ryan_L, Mar 2026
Excellent class, Jem and Wil were wonderful teachers who shared interesting facts about kintsugi while providing 1:1 direction.
Note - plan for 1.5-2hrs (even tho Viator event says 1hr).

Great experience, lovely studio and helpful staff. A great way to learn something new and a gorg souvenir to take home!
Angelique_k, Feb 2026
Such an amazing experience! We upgraded our plates for about $15. The instructors were awesome. The area it’s located in is very cute and exploitable. Would totally do again!
Sarah_W, Feb 2026
It was a very fun experience and the staff were all super friendly & great with the kids. Our girls thought it was a highlight of the vacation, and we brought nice memories back.
lauren_w, Feb 2026
This was a really fun activity to do, you get to chose your plate that you want to do kintsugi on, that is an extra cost, anything for 500yen to 4000yen. The staff will then guide you on how to do the craft. It's a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere with fellow travellers.
