This is a audio guided tour. It was informative and the experience was good. Sometimes the audio did not start on its own and had to select the section from the number on the board in each section.

The guide can only take you to the Harem and Main part of the palace. They aren't allowed to go inside. With that being said our guide did give us a breakdown of the palace and some history. We were allowed only about a half hour to tour the harem so that felt a little rushed if you really wanted to stop and learn more at each room. Please note if you would to rent a headset you do need to leave your passport or a substantial amount of Euros (think it was like 150). Beautiful palace thou but very strict about indoor photography. Shame when your spending so much per ticket to view the site.

The guide was punctual, infomative and friendly. She gave us enough time for the visit. The palace is very beautiful and luxurious.

The tour of Dolmabahce Palace was a total disappointment. The guide narrated primitively, information that is on the internet. The guided tours in the palace are not allowed, you have to use an audio guide. The guide outside the palace was narrated primitively, information founded on the internet. You can't do guided tours in the palace, you have to use an audio guide. The audio guide is issued on your own documents, passport or car licence must be brought with you. My daughter had no documents and we were not given two audio guides. We explained that the confirmation from Viator didn't have information about bringing documents with you, but no one helped. The guide offered to leave the tour if we didn't like it. No empathy or understanding.
Be careful: your documents must be left with the museum staff until the end of the tour. This violates security laws. Your document can be copied and used in illegal prices. We are travelling a lot and nowhere, in any museum we have never left our documents to the museum staff. Ridiculous. Your document should be with you only.
Negative experience. We will not use the excursion services of Turkey again.

I would reccommend this tour to everyone who comes to Dolombahce Palace for the first time. Tour guide was great and the Palace speaks for herself.

The Tour guide was TERRIBLE!! I came early and Whatsapped the tour guide and asked him where should I meet him and he texted me back but did not tell me where to meet him or how to get there. Then I texted him again and he said the group left. I was pissed because I came early and he did not help me. So I did not get to do the guided tour. All he had to do was tell me exactly where to meet him because I was already very near. I ended up having to do the tour by myself in a foreign country where I could not speak the language. Very unhappy with Viator. I probably will not use your service again. The worse thing is he didn't even offer me a refund.

The Palace is a real masterpiece with the beautiful interior and the lovely gardens. The chandeliers inside the palace are stunning! Our guide gave us thorough history of the palace.

This tour is incorrectly described. When we arrived our guide told us that there was a rule that he could not guide us inside since we were a group larger than 5. He also seemed to be in a hurry and just gave a short spiel, told us to get the audio tour, and then dumped us. No mention in the description that IDs were needed to get an audio tour. Basically all this did was give us a skip the line ticket.

It was difficult to find the tour and there was too many people. I did not think it was organized and not up to the Vistor standards.

We bought a ticket with guide , but he told us to get a headphones with explanation inside the palace and the Harem. Because he was going to get us to the entrance wait for us and we could hear the recorders thru the headphones. This is not what we bought and some of the people were really unhappy because though that he will explain, Tks god that we were able to get the machine and hear explanations thru it. BUT many of the people did not understood guide indications and they were in lalaland without any explanation inside the palace.
Please review this situation for next tours.

This should have been a magnificent tour, as all of our previous Viator tours; but it was so disappointing. First, this was NOT a guided tour per se. Our tour leader spoke very poor English in a very soft voice. More important, he did NOT accompany us inside the palace. Second, we were not forewarned that the magnificent crystal stair case would be under renovation and totally hidden from view. I feel totally misled and would NOT have purchased this tour, had I known. This does NOT live up to the Viator first rate standards.

The palace in itself is quite beautiful, fully decorated with gold and crystal and such.
Note that the tour guide isn’t allowed inside, and free audio guides are available (need to give passport, licence, ID or 2000TL/100€ as deposited refundable).
The guide does give you an overview of the history outside in the gardens. Mine was very informative and professional.
Aside from that, this is simply an entrance ticket so to speak, with a group of 10-15 people. And then you can roam around as you please and lose the group to do your own thing and visit the Harem, Palace and Museum.

I arrived at the Dolmabahce Palace clock tower, the meeting place, well before the 9:00 AM starting time. At 9:10 I went to the Information Office and asked for help. The clerk called Viator for me. They told me that the starting time would now be 10:00. At 10:15 I said 'to hell with it', bought a ticket and toured by myself. My ticket included a listening device that described everything I was looking at.
When I get home I'll call VISA and have the $45 charge reversed!
BTW, I have photos of the clock tower to prove what I've said is true!

You really don’t need a guide for this attraction. Don’t waste your money. The tour guide isn’t allowed in the buildings so you get very little information about the place.

The Palace was fantastic and the tour guide was great too. We got there early for the 9:00am tour which was lucky because it was getting busy as we left.

Excellent guide, provided right level of information and answered all our questions. Kept to a good schedule. Excellent English.

Great small group tour of the Dolmabahce palace. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and provided many details. A must see for visitors.
Iman_N, May 2024
The palace was beautiful and is definitely worth the time to visit! The two star review is solely for the guide we had. Unfortunately I never got the name of the guide because she never introduced herself. The tour began with the guide walking so quickly and never turning back to see if the group was keeping up with her pace. At one point she was at least 100m in front of the entire group. We got two bits of information and were told to go around in the palace for 45 minutes. The information she did tell us was interesting. Our guide did not tell us how long we should spend in each section or where we should be at the halfway point; it was our first time at the palace so we never knew how close or far we were from the end. Aside from not being able to get historical bits of information from the guide, the guide said that she would not wait for us if we did not get out of the palace on time. We ended up running through several sections so we could still get into the Harem. The guide just seemed like she wanted to get the tour done as quick as possible so she could leave. This was definitely not a guided tour. Left with disappointment from not being able to learn as much as I thought I would have. Definitely visit the palace but make sure you have a good guide that actually cares to share their wealth of knowledge.

Here’s the review - didn’t happen! Got an email morning of tour asking to reconfirm - which I did. Then hour later “sorry it’s been cancelled.” Some lame excuse they’re “cleaning or repairing.”. Huh??
Asked for refund - not automatic apparently - was told they couldn’t issue refund. I have to go through the broker that booked the tour - Viator. Allegedly, Viator is refunding me. Not a great experience.

We decided to buy this tour because we were afraid of the long lines. It turned out that the day we went it was not so bad. When we met the tour guide, the group turned out to be extremely large, over 30 people so he said he would not accompany us inside because they do not allow tours that large. Hence, the 4 stars. (We thought it was going to be more of a small group tour) However, our guide was extremely knowledgeable and gave us historical information about the palace and answered any questions. Some people got the guided earphones so you can get info on what you were seeing as you walked through the palace. I thought our guide did a good job explaining facts, his English good and we could understand despite the large group. I would say the only advantage to this tour is to skip the long lines if you anticipate that.
Jian_L, Sep 2023
There are plenty of tickets on sale at the ticket office at the entrance in any normal days and queue will be short usually
. You really don't need to pay a double price (called skip line price) to buy tickets from agents. Plus, you will only get a voucher rather than a real ticket. They are different. I felt I had be ripped off by paying a double price. However, the tour guide was friendly and nice and speak English very well.
Cynthia_L, Jul 2023
Ease of communication and our guide was informative. Best to go early as crowds build up. Palace was amazing as well as Harem.
Best to get information recordings so much to see & guide can’t take you inside. You can stay as long as you like.
Shubarna_B, Jul 2023
Nice and compact tour. Gives you an insight on the pomp and opulence of the Ottoman Empire. The guide was very helpful though she doesn’t accompany you inside the palace.
Vera_C, Jan 2025
