Wonderful waterfalls - many steps up!

Teresa_L, Feb 2025
This was a great hike. I did this hike beginning of February. It was not crowded at all. It’s a pretty intense hike for people who are couch potatoes. The first half is all up- Many steps are very tall. But one gets to see four waterfalls. It is so worth it. Just be in shape to do the hike. I went with Tristan from the company “Wild hong Kong” . He is very friendly and the logistics and organization were very smooth. If I return to Hong Kong, I will definitely contact this company again for more activities as I understand. They also do many other hikes and kayaking adventures.

strenuous but worth it

Sneha was a delightful guide, very patient with us and explaining each part of the hike. It was steep and strenuous, but we took our time. However, her boss failed to tell us ahead of time where at the designated train station to meet her. We arrived 15 minutes early, didn't see anyone looking for us, so waited outside the station. Then spent the next 30 minutes searching around various exits from the station, even paying once to go back inside. Rory called our home phone, but that's useless for us here in Hong Kong. Once we finally connected with Sneha, all was well.

We absolutely disagree with your opinion with regards to rendezvous for the tour; YOUR inability to follow clear directions was most unfortunate, how come you are the first out of hundreds to have such a problem? Not only does your voucher and the tour description clearly state the exact location of where to meet, but I also messaged you the meeting location (exit A of the train station) on this platform and by text well in advance of the tours taking place. So if you subsequently go off on a wonder away from the train station to other parts of the town... then what do you expect will happen? As an operator of a tour, the only other means of communication at our disposal to contact you is the ‘contact number’ YOU provide us with. If your actual ‘contact number’ is different... wouldn’t it have been nice if you had let us know? Count yourself very lucky that we waited over 30 minutes ourselves wondering where an earth you were. Glad you enjoyed the tour nonetheless.

Beautiful Country Park and Waterfalls

Jinita P, Apr 2019
The hike at Tai Mo Shan was really good and would recommend it as a get away from the buzz HK city. Waterfalls were gorgeous and so was the forest itself. Because it was raining, we didn't get a chance to swim in the waterfalls. I would totally recommend it on a sunny day. Rory was great as a guide and had good knowledge of the surrounding area. He was friendly, easy to chat with while hiking.

Not easy, but worth it!

It was December 23rd and my daughter and I found ourselves unexpectedly in Hong Kong for the weekend. It was good to get out of the city and into the New Territories and we had no problem meeting with our guide, Tristan, at the MTR station. Tristan was affable and the taxi out to Tai Mo was organised. It had started raining earlier in the morning and got heavier as the day progressed. It was nice for walking but the only problem was that it also got SLIPPERY. We were only wearing sneakers and I would recommend proper hiking shoes if you have them. This was not an easy hike. I had completed Dragon's Back the week before so perhaps I was overconfident. I'm a 48 year old Australian woman and probably about 10 kilos overweight, though fairly fit. I struggled, not because I got out of breath, but because on the very steep rocky ascent my leg muscles literally gave out, which gave me a bit of worry, as it was rugged terrain and I would think you would need to be airlifted out of there. My 16 year old daughter, who is slim and fit, later confessed to me that she was having the same worry. Now for the good bits - even in the mist, the waterfalls were spectacular, and so was the view towards Shenzhen! I also enjoyed the temple and all of the little shrines along the way. I would have liked to have learned more about the geology, biology and history of the area (when I had enough breath to talk). All in all, I would highly recommend doing this - just be aware that although the climb is arduous it doesn't last for that long and that the walk down again is lovely.

Great hike. So glad we booked this tour with Viator, this hike was located a little outside the city and having a local guide to navigate us to/from made it an easy day. Rory, our guide, was awesome. Prior to the trip he helped me plan ahead and even after the hike was kind enough to give us tips for the rest of our trip. My girlfriend and I are in pretty good shape and it took us about three hours when we reached the loop we opted to hike up one side and then down thru the waterfalls. Definitely was a workout both ways but the multiple falls were beautiful and we enjoyed our time. Pack some snacks and water as it's a solid workout and you'll likely need some fuel. I'll say it again though, Rory was awesome, really knew the trail and clearly loves being out in the trails.

Rory was great, really helpful and friendly. Along with boosting an extensive knowledge of Hong Kong. He was able to give some really good recommendations for others places to go and to see. The waterfalls and the hike were beautiful. It was great to see another side of Hong Kong.

We had a great hiking tour in Tai Mo Shan with Rory. He's a easy going and cheerful guide who led us to the peak of Tai Mo Shan upon our request despite the cold, windy and foggy weather. It was quite a struggle for some of us trying to scale the steep elevation with the wind blowing against us but we persevered and were elated to be able to reach the top. The descend was rewarded with the beautiful waterfalls that Rory led us to. Overall, it was a tiring but enjoyable hike. Thanks to Rory!

When I was booking activities for my trip to Hong Kong, deciding on where to hike was the hardest choice. Most people seemed to chose Dragon's Back, but I wanted something a little different. When I saw this hiking tour, I decided to go with this one, because who doesn't love a waterfall adventure? My guide, Rory was more than outstanding. He was fun, fun to talk to, and had some great knowledge of the area. When my wussy body was giving out, he was more than accommodating, and when I realized I wasn't going to make it all the way to the top of the waterfall, we changed the plan and we down to this amazing waterfall pool instead. I can't recommend this tour enough. If you are going to Hong Kong, and you like to hike, you should do this. I spent 6 days in Hong Kong and this easily is one of the best things I did the entire time. :

An absolutely wonderful walking tour of the hills above Hong Kong. The walk is best suited for reasonably fit hikers a the route up is long and quite steep, but very safe. The forests, views and waterfalls are magnificent and the experience is one that few visitors to Hong Kong will have. I am in my mid-sixties and not really fit, but with a bit of a struggle I made the walk to the top Okay, the walk down of course was a breeze. Rory Mackay, our guide, was exceptionally professional and knowledgeable, he made sure that we were never put at any risk and maintained a pace that we could manage. For those wanting a less energetic or strenuous walking tour of this beautiful mountain scenery, Rory will tailor routes to suit. I would have no hesitation in recommending this company, they were as good as any we've used and better than most.

This was not an easy hike but it was well worth it. As a visitor to Hong Kong it gave you a better understanding that Hong Kong is more then the harbour, buildings and the lights. Our guide Rory MacKay was great knowledgable, personable and helpful. Tom N.
