We are 2 couples in our 70's. We don't walk fast, we don't hear well, we are not adept at figuring out the buses in a strange town in a foreign language. So - a professional guide is a great help. Added to that is that we get to meet a local person and hear more about the area than we ever would traveling on our own. And the price, compared to a big HAL bus tour, is quite competitive.
We went to the garden - which was beautiful - and Kazuko explained the history and significance of the layout (like climbing Mt. Fuji and the survivor tree) - things I might never have known if I were on my own reading the signs. She then walked us to a bus stop with an incomprehensible to me schedule sign, and told us our bus would be there in 10 minutes, and it was.
We went to the Atomic Bomb Dome memorial and she walked us around there. She found a great place for the old folks (us) to rest and get some ice cream. She then led us through the museum, having prepped us about 3 special exhibits she highlighted. The museum had a bigger crush of people than we are used to, it was worse than visiting the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel. Kazuko guided us through the crush and showed us some key exhibits, and got us out of there in one piece. She was great.
She got us into a cab headed back to the correct dock for our ship. It made for a perfect day for us.
I'm sure younger folks could cover more ground. The tour can be customized to fit the fitness and ambition level of the group you are with.

A poignant and well-planned 4hrs to the most important sites in Hiroshima. The museum, Atom Bomb domb, and then a much-needed calming reset at a magnificent Japanese garden.

Our day in Hiroshima was very enjoyable. We met our lovely and knowledgable tour guide Mayumi who greeted us at the Hiroshima train station. Our family of 5 had a private tour and we added the castle and surrounding market/shrine area to the existing itinerary. There was plenty of walking and the hop on/hop off bus made transit easy. Our tour ended up a 5 hour tour, instead of the proposed 4 hours. We could have spent much longer at the museum/final stop. It was a thought provoking and informative day. Mayumi answered so many questions we had and we will never forget our memorable day. We highly recommend the tour.

It was very moving. Actually, the most moving part was that our guide’s 95-year-old mother survived the bomb but her mother’s pregnant sister and mother, who were with her, did not. Her mother was trapped under rubble for 14 hours until a passing German priest heard her cries and he dug her out. Being buried is what saved her from the fallout and black rain. When she dies, her name will be placed inside a sarcophagus that’s part of the monument to victims of the A-Bomb.

Great personalized 4 hour private tour. We were able to see the peace memorial, the atomic bomb memorial and meyjing island with the floating Torii gate. Go see the Atomic Bomb Dome, and the Peace Memorial Park area before visiting the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Hall museum. Our tour guide, Nao, was very efficient. She was very accommodating, and flexible. We told her we wanted to eat lunch and shop, and took us to YouMe. She gave us dining suggestions, and showed us where to hail a taxi. We got back to the cruise port safely.

Nao was a very sweet and friendly Japanese guide. She proudly explained everything about the Peace Park which is a very moving experience. She was also flexible to deviate from the itinerary because we wanted to eat typical ramen. She was even able to persuade the restaurant to reopen (they had just closed) to serve us. She was patient with out walking difficulties and slow pace. Definitely a good day in Hiroshima.

We booked a private tour of Hiroshima with Minami K. She kindly asked us where we would like to meet and if we had any special requests.
She is very knowledgeable about Hiroshima! We relied on her expertise to show us the major sights, including dome building, Peace Park and Museum, and a local Zen garden. She was very helpful in pointing out things we may have overlooked if we had been on our own.
Having a private tour was great because we could ask as many questions as we wanted to and could move nimbly between the sights.
We enjoyed spending time with Minami and would highly recommend her!

Minami is a wonderful guide. She was superbly helpful to get us our train tickets sorted up first, and then helped pick lunch at the ststion on oir way back.
We have the best time with her on the tour. She patiently answered our questions, was very knowledgeable and let us take our time reading through the visuals. Took us the longer way to ensure we got photos of the cherry blossoms. We loved the personalized tour and Minami was just fantastic.
