I did enjoy food tour with my guide, Halu. It was just the two of us so I was able to choose what foods we sampled. Halu was enthusiastic in providing background/history of some of the sites/places we passed by. The reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because I thought the description of tour was misleading. The tour cost was very low but I had thought the food was included since it said in what’s included section that there are “no hidden costs” but I learned that I had to pay for everything consumed, including my guide’s portions. At least street food is quite cheap. The tour operator is “Hanoi Free Private Tour Guide” but in Viator site the “Free” is omitted, whether intentionally or erroneously, I do not know. I just wish there had been more transparency in the initial posted tour description.

My guide for the Hanoi food experience was Daisy (Cuc). She is a food junkie and knew the best spots, for each course, around the old and French quarters. So yes, we end up having various dishes and local delicacies until we couldn't eat more. Nice experience and I will be repeating it. Thank you!

Jay was our guide for our Hanoi evening walking food tour on Tuesday 29th April 2025. We went to three local eateries and tried three different traditional Vietnamese dishes. Jay taught us how to roll our pork spring rolls. He also took us to train street at night where we had a local beer and watched the 7:30pm train pass. Jay was excellent and gave us plenty of choice to what we ate including asking in advance about dietaries and if there were any particular foods we wanted to try. He also gave us recommendations on activities/things to do in Hanoi.

The journey to the cooking school is great fun - a ride up the river in a traditional boat then rowing through coconut palms in Vietnamese round boats. Our welcome to the school was very relaxing with a foot and shoulder massage. We cooked and ate 4 different dishes which were all delicious. There was no buffalo cart ride, but this may be due to the heavy rain just before our tour.

This was a great experience wandering the streets of Hanoi and eating where the locals eat. Eli went out of his way to accommodate my difficult dietary requests and come up with very tasty, affordable meals, while listening to him recount some of the history of Hanoi.

We ran a bit late due to delayed flight but Eli was understanding.
The appetizer was so good we came back again the next day. It is one of the best local foods we tried, eli also added pepper which made a lot of difference.
The ban xeo was also good. We do not usually order this because if huge size but this opportunity gave as a chance and we loved it.
The desserts are the best. Eli’s finishing touches were really good.
This tour really made us happy.

Very disappointed with this experience. It was not a tour and we did not eat streetfood. Guide (sweet, but barely spoke or understood English and was not from Hanoi) met us at a point chosen by their system and she led us about 15 minutes to a restaurant. We requested to stop at a genuinely local place along the way, but the guide led us away from there, past lots of actual streetfood vendors and instead we went to a restaurant of her choosing in the most touristy part of Hanoi. Sure, we sat at the side of the street, but that does not make it streetfood. We were massively overcharged for the food (360k for noodles, rice and a vegetable, plus one beer) which was of mediocre quality. Total time was about one hour including the walk, not the 2-3 hours advertised. In short, there was nothing helpful or interesting about this experience and we feel ripped off.

Anh was a wonderful guide showing us a diverse range of local food specialties - highly recommended. Make sure you have an empty stomach as when you visit all of the tasty stops, you will want to eat everything, and that is a lot of food. Really recommended as Anh was very knowledgeable and obviously knew all of the food operators so could arrange food easily.

The experience overall was very good. We visited 4 places and we ate amazing food. The only thing we didn't like was the rush, we couldn't enjoy the meals coz we were rushed to another place. So in not much over one hour we couldn't eat anymore and we just finished the experience. But surely I would recommend it to anyone who wants to know how to eat some of the dishes.
