I took a one-day tour of Halong Bay. I would recommend one of the longer trips. The day was made all the more interesting when we crashed into another boat.
Required for a visit to the northern part of Vietnam.

Halong Bay is a must-see if visiting Hanoi. It’s best to book a tour for the attraction and this one was great! There were some issues due to us booking last-minute but the team was very responsive and helpful. The tour was also a lot of fun for us!

The morning of my trip, I waited for nearly 45 minutes for a pick up. Within the first 10 minutes I contacted the company to confirm my pick up, and they kept saying they'll call me back, only to find out that they didn't have my name on their list because somehow my confirmation ended up in their spam box. Luckily I was in Hanoi for another full day, and switched my day trip for the next day. The next morning, I arrived at my pick up location on time, but the driver got there 5 minutes before my scheduled pick up time, and left me. I ended up taking a taxi to the main office to catch the bus before they headed off for the trip. They didn't seem very organized, but Halong Bay is beautiful and worth seeing!

The 4 hour drive, there and back, was very long. The van air conditioner worked poorly. But once there the boat ride, lunch, sampam was good. The cave tour was amazing...It made the drive worth it.

Perfect if you don't have the time or money to do a 2/3 day tour. It is a lot of driving for a day but you get to do everything you want in Ha Long Bay. Buffet lunch was great too!

Extensive driving time, more than excepted, made the experience a little less enjoyable but the view and scene of Halong Bay overpass the frustration. Just be ready for a very long day.

The tour would have been perfect had not been for two small details: first, the guide was supposed to pick us up at our hotel between 8 and 8:30 a.m., but instead he arrived there at 7:15!!! We were far from ready, despite being already awake, and if the amazing staff of our hotel hadn't made everything they could to arrange a breakfast takeout for us, we would be doomed... Second, it is a long long drive from Hanói to Halong Bay roughly 3 hrs and the tour driver didn't make it any easier by honking ALL THE WAY like crazy! I know, I know, it is a Vietnamese thing, they are always smashing the honk, but I imagined a professional tourist company would know better and not stress the hell out of their clients....nope!
Anyway, putting all that aside, we enjoyed a lot during our boat trip through the incredible limestone wonders of Halong Bay. It ended up being a nice sunny day despite all forecasts telling otherwise! The luch they served on the boat was delicious, really generous, and we had plenty of time for photos and sightseeing on the upper deck! The visit to the cave was another highlight of the tour!
I hope they better their drivers guidelines so you can enjoy a nice and RELAXING day at Halong Bay! -

I am not one who is typically a guided tour guy. I am adverse to touristy things. So with that being said, I cannot recommend this Hanoi Bay tour more vociferously enough! The tour was comfortable and well done. Perfect amount of time was spent on each segment of the tour. Guides were friendly but not overbearing. Do not miss this one.

Once we were at Halong Bay, the tour itself of the Bay and the caves was good. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly. However we arrived over an hour late, mainly because the van had too many stops to make in Hanoi. Lunch on the boat was very poor and badly prepared. Kayaking in the bay or taking a boat seemed worthwhile. The cave tour was excellent. Very vexing that as we were about to depart @4:10 p.m. back to Hanoi, the tour guide and driver were directed to pick up three additional passengers who were not part of our tour. This added an extra 30 minutes as we tried to find them coming off of another boat. Most vexing is the additional 30 minute stop at a tourist trap on the way back to Hanoi. One expects to stop at one of these places during a trip - which we did, on the way to Halong Bay. But then to also have to endure a second one on the way back to Hanoi, when everyone is tired is inexcusable.

Fantastic tour! Probably the best we went on in Vietnam. The company was amazing - we missed the meeting point and they offered to pick us up outside of the old quarter the following day. We ate in groups on the boat (fab lunch) and rowed through the waters and caves ourselves. Highly recommended!!

This tour was definitely a great experience. It is not for the weak of heart though. The tour is a very long day. It is 3-4 hours both ways with a stop in-between. If the weather is great the ride on the water is nice. The lunch on the boat isn't too bad. The floating village is nice but the people that work there are rude. The caves are a nice tourist thing to look at. lots of steep steps Over all it was a nice day. I would probably go back to the bay but traveling there would have to be something to think about.

Not worth the money or time. Most of the trip is spent on the bus back and forth rather than the actual trip
Go for the two or three day tour instead, and book through agencies in the city would be alot cheaper

what a fantastic day out !!!!, it is a long journey to Halong bay from Hanoi , but well worth it
on the way to the bay , you pass along some fantastic scenery, including the rice fields for the workers , working in the fields.
as for the bay itself it is spectacular, are boat took us to the bay , and on the boat we had a fantastic meal, when we got to the bay , we had choice of either kayaking or going out with one of the locals on a small rowing boat i chose the rowing boat
are local guide took us into the bay and past the local fishing village , after the boat trip we were then taken to see two spectacular massive caves .
on the way back everyone in are group agreed what a great day out they had , i was travelling alone and met some wonderful friendly people.
i would recommend doing this tour while in Hanoi

The tour was basically an uninterested escort shuttling us from place to place. Ha Long Bay is gorgeous so what you get to see and experience is amazing. Our guide told us very little, if not nothing about the different places we stopped.
Apparently when I booked, I was an extra that they fit it which meant I sat up front in the middle. Quite honestly, I think the guide should have given me the proper seat as I was a paying customer but he seemed very disinterested in being a good guide. This special seat always gave me a view to the driver, who almost nodded off for a good 1/2 hour during the drive. You might think it's the guide's job to keep the driver awake but he was fast asleep for about 45 minutes.
As I said, we got to see the sights and our group was very good but I would recommend going on a different tour with a different outfit if you want to learn more about the destination.
