This experience was advertised as a private history tour of Halifax, but unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations.
Albert was friendly, courteous, and a very safe driver. He also happily offered to take photos for us, which we appreciated. However, most of the conversation centered around his personal life. We learned that he has a PhD, two master's degrees, seven children (with four currently in university), and that his wife is 44 years old and had her last child at 40. While interesting, this wasn't why we booked a Halifax history tour.
When Albert mentioned he was a teacher, I expected detailed historical commentary throughout the tour. Instead, he primarily drove us to each location and escorted us around with very little explanation of the history. When I asked about the churches—their denominations and ages—I was simply told they were "old," without any additional context or historical information.
For a tour that cost $444.05, I expected an engaging, informative experience with meaningful stories and historical insight about Halifax, the Titanic connection, the Halifax Explosion, and the city's landmarks. Instead, I left feeling like I knew much more about the guide than I did about Halifax itself.
While Albert was personable and professional as a driver, I cannot recommend this tour to anyone looking for a true historical experience.
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Hello Tracy, I am sorry for your experience. I have already talked to albert about it. I will make sure this doesn't happen again in future. Sorry again and I will personally make sure that he is up to date with city history and not talk about himself. If you are in city next time please let me know and your next tour will be half price. Really sorry again.

It would have been better if our guide had been more talkative and informative. But he was very pleasant and nice!

Saw all the sites, driver was on time and very pleasant. It is not, however, a tour that offers any history or cultural background to places visited

GG was a delight to ride with. He was incredibly well knowledgeable and informative. He easily changed the schedule as some of the places on the itinerary I'd already been. He added places I wanted to go and also added places further from the downtown.

GG took us on a cozy ride (just my group- which was amazing) throughout Halifax. We saw the sites and GG was very informative of the town. We had a great time and we would recommend to anyone wanting to become familiar with the city! It was a great day.

Nice way to see the entire city. We really liked the stops at the public gardens and the citadel (it helps that the citadel was free when we were there).
