You need absolutely good shoes- mountain boots or, at least, strong trainers along with sun screen, a hat, sunglasses, a towel, swimsuit, an extra pair of socks and a light jacket.Please keep in mind that it is not an easy walk,but a hike through the biggest Gorge on Crete!
Not recommended for travelers with Knee or Leg Problems!

Beautiful but dangerous in heat

The Samaria gorge itself was beautiful and well worth the trip to hike it. However, this excursion was unsafe. It was over 100 degrees Fahrenheit and since our group came from Heraklion, we had to finish the hike by a certain time in order to make the last boat. This did not feel feasible and the tour only provided a bus ride from Heraklion and back. I am in healthy condition and still ended up with heat stroke and dehydration. The tour should not have run in this heat and I did not feel taken care of by the staff.

Dear Elana, we would like to thank you very much for your feedback in this review and say that we are really sorry you didn't enjoyed the tour as much as we would like to.Through our description we are trying our best to inform our visitors,that the Samaria Gorge is a long and difficult Gorge. That is the reason we don't allow Children or people with health problems to enter. But it is a famous place and we can prevent people visiting it. Also we are forced to cross it in a certain time span, due to the boat times. Our Tour leaders are always around and do their best to help in any difficult case and many times visitors have to be carried out of the Gorge with donkeys or 4weel cars.Your feedback will be communicated to our Guides, so they will be even more active next to the Hikers.
