We were unable to do the Preveli beach/waterfall tour due to wildfires in the area, but our driver Christos brought us to a different gorge (Agia Irini) closer to Chania and we had an awesome hike! It ended up just being my husband and I so we had our own curated experience and delicious lunch at a taverna in Sougia on the beach.

Great tour! We were able to adjust our time to leave early enough to get to the gorge as it opened, and Christos was a great driver. The gorge was really nice, but I’m glad we got there as early as we did, there is very little room on the platform by the river. It is very beautiful and the water is very cold. Prevali Beach is a fairly serious hike down and out, be prepared for that. The beach and river are very pretty but it is sparse, no chairs, no food, only drinks, and it was very crowded, be prepared for that.

stunning crowded sites

We had a fantastic driver with a new Landrover SUV. The waterfall is spectacular if you are able to swim in extraordinarily cold water. We did and it was so memorable however it’s a very crowded destination on a scorching day. The beach has an incredible breeze and the meeting of the river and the sea was memorable - another very crowded place. Another issue was that too much time passed (approx 6-7 hours) from the time we met up til the time we ate our meal. Our teen sons were starving. The driver had water, bananas and some biscuits but it wasn’t enuf. The snack bar at the beach only sold beverages, no food. (at least the day we were there). Bring towels - we didn’t know and didn’t have any - you dry quickly in the Greek sun but we would have brought had we known.

It was the best tour we did on our vacation, just what we needed. Our guide Cristo was wonderful, professional, and knowledgeable. If you are looking for an extraordinary outdoor adventure that will help you burn all the extra calories you have consumed, call them up. Oh but wait, Cristo took us to an exquisite farm to table, family owned restaurant where we gain all those calories back and more. A must do excursion.

Private Tour Kourtaliotiko Gorge and Preveli Beach

Our cruise ship rerouted to Crete with one day of notice. After scrambling around trying to find anything we settled on this gorge/beach combo, and I'm so glad we did. Jacob was wonderful. He showed up 10 minutes early and had snacks for us. He's a safe and competent driver, plus a nice guy. The main road to preveli beach was closed and it rerouted us through the smallest streets I'd ever seen before. Somehow we made it out unscathed and on schedule. He let us walk down to the beach on our own and was there when we got back. At the kourtaliotiko gorge he walked us down and waited for us to be done. Afterwards we had lunch at a local place. The owner is a character to say the least, but that's for another review. We didn't feel rushed or bothered about anything. I really recommend using these guys for your excursion needs.

Absolutely brilliant trip. Sofia our guide could not be more helpful and kind. Beautiful locations visited that I would highly recommend seeing in Crete. Timings worked out perfect and pick up from our hotel. Enjoyed the restaurant at the end! Excellent value and would recommend.
