Itinerary
Start your trip from central Barcelona, continuing by an air-conditioned vehicle on a drive through the lush countryside to the charming village of Besalú. Once you arrive, hop out to begin a walking tour of this ancient city, stopping to admire its streets lined with medieval-era architecture. Then visit a nearby mikveh (a 12th-century Jewish bath) before stopping by a medieval synagogue.
Continue next to Castellfollit de la Roca, a positively minuscule town situated on the edge of a basalt cliff. This tiny village harbors 1,000 citizens in a town that’s just 3,280 square feet (1,000 square meters). Proceed to Rupit, where you have time to wander this beautiful hamlet at your leisure. Stroll the cobblestone roads lined with 16th-century houses, cross the city’s hanging wooden bridge, and make a visit Rupit’s baroque-era Church of Sant Miquel. Feel free to have lunch (at your own expense) before checking out the ruins of the Castle of Rupit set on a picturesque rocky peak.
After Rupit, take a scenic drive towards the sandstone cliffs at Cingles de Tavertet, set in the Ter River Valley, passing by the area’s megalithic tomb and its Iberian Wall as well. Then arrive in Tavertet, taking time to explore the area’s 48 preserved homes from the 16th and 17th centuries with your guide. Hear a few details about the village from your guide before checking out the 11th-century Romanesque Church of Sant Cristòfol. You then have time to take a break, grabbing a coffee (at your own expense) or enjoying a short walk to the scenic overlook at Panta de Sau lake.
Finish your trip with a ride back to Barcelona, during which you enjoy vistas of verdant-green forests like Magatalls, along with the UNESCO Man and Biosphere-listed El Montseny natural park. You are dropped off back at your departure point in Barcelona at the end of the day.

Amazing sights, incredible history, friendly knowledgeable guide. Xavie was great and very accommodating! Loved the tour.
Guillaume is an excellent guide, that is pationate by is work. And a safe driver. We love history. That excursion gave us the opportunité to travel in the past. Not a lot of tourists
Amazing experience. Tour guide was so knowledgeable and answered random questions we had about everything.
One of the best tour experiences I ever had! My tour guide (Nu) was super sweet and knowledgeable about the history of the villages we visited. It was pretty fun to experience something different during my Barcelona trip.
Our guide was fantastic. The villages were absolutely stunning with just about the right amount of time spent at each village.
Quite a long day but very interesting. Beautiful views towards the pyrenees and picturesque villages visited. Older people may find some of the walking/steps difficult (we are in our 70s and reasonably fit). Our guide, Stephen was very knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the day
It’s a long day, but very interesting & worth the time and $! I would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in the area!
Absolutely wonderful experience. The guide was amazing he was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.
As the title says, I was blown away by this tour. It was a small tour with myself, 2 other people and our guide. She truly went above and beyond to ensure we learned about the history and culture of the villages we saw, and to help us feel comfortable. At the end of the tour we all hugged - honestly I have traveled for several decades and this was the first time this has happened. 5 stars.
Most beautiful, exciting, and informative tour taken in quite a few years! Out guide was incredible, personable, engaging, and extremely knowledgeable.
What a fantastic tour! Make sure you are aware this is definitely a walking tour on a bunch of uneven ground, if you wanna get the most of it! Stunning Settings, delicious foods, and nice friendly interactions with everyone involved. Our tour guide, Jerome, beyond helpful, friendly, courteous, and overall a nice guy! Driving through the mountains was a breeze, and he took time to make sure we stopped and took beautiful pictures!
We loved the opportunity to get out of Barcelona and see some historic medieval villages. There is no other way to do this than to have someone else do the driving and giving an informative commentary at the same time. Bertha was both and did a fantastic job.
We were 8 in a van. Stephen was our guide and was very pleasant and informative.
Besalu and Rupit were the most interesting villages. Besalu was more touristy. Sant Père church is gorgeous. Wish we’d had a bit more time there.
Rupit is beautiful and there are several short hikes to a waterfall, a hermitage and an overlook.
The 3rd village has a nice Romanesque church and a panoramic view but not much else.
The drive goes though some beautiful countryside with some sensational overlooks.
You do spend a lot of time driving so might be challenging for parents with active little ones.
Wonderful experience providing good historical information.
Enough time is allowed at each village for both guided content and one browsing.
Our guide, Berta, communicated easily and clearly has a deep knowledge of the towns and the history.
Great tour, Rodolfo was wonderful, knowledgeable, and passionate about his culture and funny. Every city was interesting.
Our tour guy, Sergio was professional, super knowledgeable, and friendly. He was our driver and the tourguide. We had a small group, the tour covered exactly what was advertised, the weather was perfect and all three towns was not very busy which was amazing. We really enjoy our tour. Thanks again, Sergio! You are the best!
That you drive through some of the most majestic scenery in Catalonia. You see vultures reeling on slip streams off the rim of the high cliffs you have just driven along. It is truly breathtaking.
That there is a very good Argentinian restaurant in Rupit that is worth a lunch visit.
The villages were everything I imagined they would be but it was the drive through the forest and up to the "to the top of Catalonia" that really was a beautiful surprise.
Having Xavi as a Tour Guide was a bonus, with his lovely sense of humour and goid driving skills.
We had a day to kill in Barcelona and this tour was a perfect fit. A nice day driving through the countryside checking out some incredible old towns.
There was a lot of driving involved, but the cool old villages, the cool air conditioned van and the cool guide and fellow tourists to talk to along the way made it worth it. We enjoyed the opportunity to see the land outside of the city. Best memories from our time in Spain.
Wonderful tour guide, she was very knowledgeable and kind. We saw some beautiful sights and gorgeous historic towns. Was a great experience, I highly recommend.
Definitely choose small group your. Our guide was fabulous.. Plenty of free time to wander and shop and have lunch.
Xavi made it a very interesting outing to 3 different sized villages full of history both past and present. He gave ample information, and was extremely polite and helpful.
Nice experience and an overall great day seeing the medieval villages. The entire tour was great, but the last stop is the best! Nice surprise!
It was interesting. The guide (a woman) was knowledgeable. This was educational. It was a small group tour, and we enjoyed meeting others.
Beautiful views. Interesting villages. Fun mountain roads. Loved seeing more than just the city of Barcelona. Guide was very
informative as we drove as well as in the villages.
Carma was very knowledgeable and made our experience fun and ingaging, driver was great as well. We would recommend this tour to out friends
Nice destinations. Good guide. Travel is in a van with 2 up front with driver and two rows of 3. Catalan lunch option was good bu $19 euro
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave the tour his personal touch with small unknown look out spots with great views. He also took us to his favorite restaurant where they treated everyone like family.
This was a wonderful experience! Our guide was knowledgeable, personable, and was regularly asking how she could make our experience even better! I definitely recommend this tour.
We enjoyed see in the Medieval Villages and learning about the history related to them Our guide, Xavi, was great!
