Get the best from a journey from Fez to Marrakech by visiting Morocco’s Merzouga Desert and Atlas Mountains on route on this exciting and worry-free 3-day transfer.
Leave Fez by air-conditioned vehicle for the Middle Atlas, traveling via Ifrane and Azrou’s forests—famous for their monkeys—and seeing hamlets and waterfalls before descending to Merzouga. From here, ride a camel to a desert camp in the Sahara’s Erg-Chebbi dunes, where you’ll enjoy dinner and overnight in a tent.
After a desert sunrise and breakfast, rumble by sandcastle-like kasbahs, palmeries, and mud villages to the Todra Gorge and Dades Valley, before dinner and a hotel stay this evening.
On day three, visit Ouarzazate’s Taourirt Kasbah and Atlas Studios (own expense) before exploring the stunning UNESCO-protected Ait-Ben-Haddou kasbah. Then, traverse the spectacular Atlas Mountains again, taking the high-altitude Tizi-n'Tichka Pass and concluding in Marrakech.
Choose a standard group tour to stay in a standard desert camp tent, or upgrade to a small-group tour for a tent with ensuite facilities. Alternatively, book a small-group luxury tour for a deluxe camp and tent, or private tour including private round-trip car, minivan, or 4WD transport; plus a luxury desert camp and tent stay.

Our driver, Said Arfoud, was the BEST driver and guide. He communicated well and was very organized. He is a very safe driver under challenging circumstances as we experienced in the Atlas Mountains in December. He shared his great taste in music with us too.
Finally, Said went out of his way to make sure we arrived at our Riad safely at the end of our 3 day tour
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thank you so much for your kind words!
We’re thrilled to hear that Said Arfoud made your 3-day tour safe, enjoyable, and memorable especially through the challenging Atlas Mountains. It’s great that you appreciated his organization, communication, and even his excellent taste in music. We’ll be sure to share your praise with him.
We hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable adventures in Morocco!

The 3D/2N Desert Adventure is not to be missed. Our overnight stay in the desert camp is a different kind of experience - tent and facilities are clean, there is heater and hot water, water closet has strong flush, food was delicious and generous, staff were all helpful and courteous. We rode the camel, did sandboarding and watched the sunset. After dinner there was bonfire and performance by the staff. In the morning, we watched the sunrise. It was a fun and different experience. I would like to commend Ibrahim, our amazing and fantastic driver for 3 days. We all felt safe with Ibrahim. It was snowing in the Atlas Mountain and he drove safely. All of us drive cars and we could tell how skilled a driver Ibrahim is. Ibrahim together with Hossein took good care of us, from our luggages to our photo shots to our meals - in one restaurant, when they saw that our food orders were taking time, they would check with the manager/owner and they would even bring plates to our tables. Our vehicle though could be better :) they look tired already.
Response from Host, Dec 2025
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed and wonderful review.
We’re truly delighted to hear that you enjoyed the 3D/2N Desert Adventure and that your overnight stay at the desert camp was a memorable experience from the comfort of the tent and facilities to the delicious food, sunset, sunrise, camel ride, sandboarding, and evening bonfire. It’s great to know that these moments made the journey fun and special for you.
Your kind words about Ibrahim mean a lot to us. He is indeed an amazing and skilled driver, and we’re very proud to hear that you felt safe and well cared for, especially while traveling through snowy conditions in the Atlas Mountains. Ibrahim and Hossein will be very happy to know that their attention to your comfort, luggage, photos, and meals made a positive difference.
We also sincerely appreciate your constructive feedback regarding the vehicle. Your comment is well noted, and we are continuously working to improve our fleet to ensure an even more comfortable experience for our guests.
Thank you again for your recommendation and trust. We hope to welcome you back for another adventure in Morocco in the future.

We had a great trip through the desert. Our trip ran from Fes to Marrakech over three days, with a night in the desert camp and a night in Ourrzazate. The first day was with our group of three and two others, with your guide Ibrahim. Unfortunately our van broke down, which was nobody’s fault, and the tour company quickly found someone else to pick us up. We then did a ride on camels and stayed in the camp. The next two days was only the three of us with our guide Mohamed Buzga. It was essentially a private tour from then on, we were very lucky! I think going from Fes to Marrakech is less common than Marrakech to Fes, but I would recommend going this way! Mohamed was great, tailored our trip to what we wanted and was a great driver.
Response from Host, Apr 2025
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and honest review! We're so glad to hear that, despite the unexpected hiccup with the van, your desert journey from Fes to Marrakech turned out to be a memorable and enjoyable experience. It's great to know the team acted quickly to keep things on track, and that you got to enjoy such a special time at the desert camp.
We're especially happy to hear how much you appreciated Mohamed Buzga’s flexibility and care having the tour tailored to your interests makes all the difference. And you're right—doing the route from Fes to Marrakech is a bit less common, but such a unique way to see the changing landscapes!
Thank you again for sharing your experience and for the recommendation. We’d love to welcome you back anytime for more adventures!

A memorable 3 day adventure thru the heart of Morocco. Sunset camel ride in the Sahara followed by sunrise over the dunes was a highlight of the trip. Our driver/ guide, Zaki, was with us all 3 days and was fluent in English with highlights of the scenery along the way, and restaurant stops that weren’t over run by tourists. The only downside was the 2 nd night hotel; a 2 star level, not up to ones expectations for a “VIP luxury tour”
Response from Host, Mar 2025
Thank you so much for your glowing review!
we are so glad to hear that your 2 days desert was such an incredible experience with us!
The combination of a sunset camel ride in the Sahara and a sunrise over the dunes sounds like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Zaki's role as your guide seems to have added immense value—his fluent English, thoughtful commentary, and knack for finding less touristy spots must have made the trip even more enjoyable!
your words mean a lot to us and we hope to welcome you on another memorable adventures soon!

in the desert and the second part from the desert to Marrakesh (Aït Benhaddou, Atlas Studio, the gorge). The first part (monkey place, the "swiss city" or something) could be cut short so we could get to the desert early. Our bus only got the the desert very late in the afternoon around 6:30PM
The buses are not very well organized. I came to the desert on one bus and leaving the desert on another bus. I had to ride on top of the truck from the desert to the bus.
the tour guides are very nice but their knowledge and English could be improved.
again the first half could be cut short, going straight to the desert only stop for washroom.

Solid trip from Fes to Marrakesh through Sahara! Ismael was our driver and Mustapha was the guide. The pair were very friendly and easy going and stayed with us throughout the trip. Mustapha new languages and overall was a good “shepherd” to our diverse group through various experiences and encounters. As someone already mentioned in reviews, it is a conveyor-like sequence of experiences, but I must point out that it is not an easy conveyor to pull off, especially given we were going through very remote areas, and a multitude of logistical vendors/businesses. (You may not want to get off the beaten path there). So I’d say they make it feel smooth working, and even if there are hiccups, they resolve them swiftly. I wish there was a bit more historic content and anthropologic explanations, but maybe it’s just me and it would be boring to others. (We did get a bit of history from the local guide in Rissani and I would want more of that through the trip on the bus with us). Also I wish food choices were more diverse, but that may be a function of remoteness of those areas. One advice to future travelers: bring with you /plan for something to do on the bus - some drive stretches are long and maybe an audiobook or your favorite music would make the time pass faster. First day is mild and curious, with the build up to the desert (the approach to the desert may feel a bit sketchy, but just trust the process). The desert was magnificent and berbers are the kindest people. My most tiresome day was second, after the night in the desert (as you go to bed late after a great dinner and playing drums with berbers, and waking up super early for the sunrise in the desert). Third day was unexpectedly interesting with an underrated gem in the mountains - the old village you’ll hike through to the top for amazing views - choose that over Atlas studios, as it is more authentic and it is a UNESCO site (and beware of local “pirates” in the village!). Overall, thank you for a great trip!
Roch_S, May 2024
I had a good experience and saw truly beautiful sights and experienced the country's rich culture. First part of the trip up to the night in the desert was operated by this tour operator. The trip from the desert through Ouarzazate and to Marrakesh was outsourced to another provider. This part wasn't as good as the driver simply didn't know what the package we purchased included. We did not see the Atlas Studio as mentioned in the itinerary and the last day was mostly driving to Marrakech and we arrived in the early afternoon. My recommendation would also be for the drivers (both) to give an idea of the day's itinerary, planned stops, etc. The hotel in Ouarzazate was substituted for Rose Valley. It was clean and they had a pool. Bit more modern and less authentic then the one mentioned in the itinerary. We had dinner included there and that may have been the worst dinner from my 10 days in the country. Breakfast was good. The overnight desert stay didn't end up having any sand boarding we simply sat on a dune after 30 minutes of Camel riding to wait for the sunset. Dinner at 10pm. Show at 11pm until 11.45 or so. Despite these small items I'd recommend this trip.
Sarah_C, May 2024
We did the 3 days trip with two nights overstay. We left from fez and we got to Marrakech. Definitely one of the best experiences I have ever done. Nature is amazing. Landscape breathtaking. Far above our expectations, also the camping in the desert. People where super nice and kind. We travelled with Hassan as a driver. A really good driver, friendly and super available. Highly recommended, almost mandatory I would say, if you go to Marokko!
Natalia_T, Apr 2024
Mohammed is the best driver! We loved to spend 3 days enjoying the Sahara desert and villages. He explained and gave information about the places and showed as very beautiful locations. This is a highly recommended tour to visit more local places. We spent a lot of time in the road but it’s because you visit a lot of places in the country. The food is just okay but is what you can expect being in the middle of the desert. The experience is worthy. Thank you Mohammed!! You’re the best!
Philip_C, Mar 2024
A tale of two parts. Having a private tour is fantastic, and worth the money. Driss, our driver, was great. Looked after us well, drove well. Being just us we could stop where we wanted whencwe wanted and vary the tour in terms of time spent at different places, start time and even miss stuff out, like the Atlas Studio tour, which gets pretty mixed reviews (check it out)
But at the end of the day the itenerary is the standard time that absolutely everyone gets. It's a bit of a productuon line. The camel trip was great fun,the desert camp a bit underwhelming, the hotel on the second night was just weird - big, clean and well appointed, but missing any sense of "luxury": no water or tea/coffee in rooms; had to pay for even soft drinks etc with dinner; dinner was pretty bad, they simply hadn't been told of our dietary requirements plus we were essentially the only guests in the entire place so most of lights were off and they shut up as soon as we left the canteen-like restaurant. Breakfadtcwas good and the staff were friendly. Also, no alcohol.
The tour remains a really good way to see the country outside the cities; it's metric tonne of driving though, be warned, and the usual stops at places where you feel you are being gently exploited.
I would certainly recommend it, but don't expect to feel the booking company cares about anything except your cash

Great adventure for feeling Morroco vibe...the staff for the camel and camping experience where very attentive
Charlene_T, Dec 2023
Hamza is a safe driver throughout the journey. He is helpful to make arrangements to drop us near to our Riad at Marrekech and getting a porter to move our luggage to our accomodation. Thank you!
Giorgia_A, Nov 2023
We had a great experience with our guide Driss! He was very kind and always open to reply to our questions. Always giving information about what we were going to visit and see. He made sure our experience of Morocco was unforgettable. Plus a great driver and very attentive to safety!
Thomas_P, Oct 2023
Went well above my expectations! So much more than just the desert. Hanza my guide was great, who showed us so much of the country
Dominic_G, Oct 2023
Tour: Amazing way to see some of Morocco's most amazing sights, including the Atlas mountains and the Sahara desert. Great accommodation was provided both nights, especially the stay in the desert camp.
Driver: Abdul was both an excellent driver and tour guide. He explained the various landscapes we saw (in very good English), answered all of our questions and also gave us lots of opportunities to take photos. Overall, Abdul helped to make the experience unforgettable.
Francesca_J, Sep 2023
Sahara camel ride at sunset was an amazing experience and we really enjoyed travelling through this part of Morocco seeing the diversity of people, culture and landscapes, unique UNESCO villages and met some lovely people in our group too!
Anke_D, Sep 2023
The luxury Desert camp was beautiful and the staff & people & food entertainment I really can recommend this tour
axel_d, Sep 2023
- The agency itself was very reliable!
We had booked our trip during the earthquake in 2023. Since we did not want to go to Marrakesh (earthquake zone) we asked if we could change to return to Fez. The communication was amazing. The travel agency aranged a new route for us in less then 30 minutes. There was no trouble at all.
- The tour was beautiful
Instead of taking the train from Fez to Marrakesh we took this tour. The ride is a bit longer than the train, but we did not even notice. The Merzouga dessert is an amazing place and the guides show the most amazing spots.
Mark_H, Jun 2023
In general, the tour/trip was fine. The sites & scenery along the way were spectacular. Definitely worth the trip. The desert, itself, was interesting as we experienced a sand storm that made things a bit more difficult. It was the little things along way that did not make it great. Some of these things included:
-the driver picking us up at designated place but he did not have our names or the company's name (5 minutes of confusion re. Viatour, Fes Desert Tours & 3T ??)
- the poor quality of the food (almost everywhere),
- the fact we had to organize ourselves to get into the Atlas Movie studio (me, against the local tour guides trying to get entrance tickets. A good story, but unnecessary)
- the chaos with the camels in the desert with no one explaining what the itinerary/plan was
-the fact we were told we would arrive in Marrakesh by 5pm by the company, 6pm by the driver but not arriving until much later (partly due to a mechanical breakdown, which can happen) but mostly because out of the 7 people in our van -- 5 were smokers. Every stop took much longer than it needed as we had to wait for them, after we all had completed whatever activity the stop included, to do what smokers do.
-the luxury option (on the day we went) wasn't necessary as the other smoking travelers received the same food & accommodation in the desert as we did and in Ouarzazate they actually stayed at a hotel that had alcoholic drinks while as ours did not (even though the driver told us it did- not so luxury)
-everyone was nice enough, it is just that confusion seemed to reign most of the time. Knowing ahead of time that we had a "driver" not a "guide" may have changed our expectations & actions.
It was a nice enough trip; things worked out for the most part in the end but it seemed like a lot of work considering the price. Maybe on a different day, without having to take longer with smoke breaks, things might have different/easier.
CHRISTINE_R, May 2023
Our driver Aimed is very nice! The tour is more like a private driver, there is no tour guide to explain more on the history. Although Aimed is trying to explain, however he is not a tour guide. His knowledge is limited. Lots of time in the car, and lots of stops for shopping. The shopping area and food are very tourists oriented, more expensive than other stores/market. Restaurant for lunch is very tourists oriented as well, and quiet pricey. The camel ride in the sand dune is quiet an experience. Overall is ok for the experience. I recommend this trip compare to the 2 days from Fez to Marrakech. The 3 days give us a little bit more time to explore more.
Response from Host, Jun 2023
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your recent tour with us
We're glad to hear that you found our driver Aimed to be very nice and that you enjoyed the camel ride in the sand dunes. We understand your point about the tour lacking a dedicated tour guide to provide more in-depth historical information. While Aimed did his best to share his knowledge, we apologize if it fell short of your expectations. We'll take this feedback into consideration and explore opportunities to enhance the educational aspect of the tour.
Thank you once again for your feedback, as it helps us improve and deliver better experiences to our guests. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide an even more enriching tour in the future.
Gilda_R, Mar 2023
We started the tour expecting a natural and cultural immersive experience, but it was mainly an ultra touristic tour. The monkey sightseeing was at the side of the main road, full of locals with horses trying to get money for pictures - monkeys were almost tame, so not at all the natural experience we thought it might be. Stopped for food on a very soulless place, then drove all the way to the desert where camels were ready for us. One of them was in clear discomfort, as she was crying (the guide said she was still young and not used to it yet, but I could see she was held down with force on her leg), so on the way back from the dunes I decided to walk instead of riding, as it didn't feel right. But talking to the guys working there was awesome and they made our desert tour really special. The night at the tent was incredible, the people working there were amazing, food really good, the tent super clean (more than some other places we've been in Morocco), well looked after cats browsing around, the night sky a must see!! Day 2 was a long and tiring ride to Ouarzazate, lots of nice villages in the way, but didn't really stop at any of them as we were on a tight schedule. We only stopped for a tour of Rissani - we asked if we could go by ourselves, but there was a guide booked for us, so we had to go with him. He took us to tourist traps (they asked us £1k for a rug that was £300 in Fes - nothing of the cooperative and village supportive shopping we were promised! plus we paid 200 dirham for spices that would have costed us 50 at the next stall), this really stained the whole experience, as we were expecting a more sustainable kind of tourism, but they clearly missed the mark. We were ready for another memorable night in one of the Kasbahs we saw all across the region, but we were instead placed in a western style hotel full of 'package tourist' groups - some people might like this style of holiday, but this is not at all what we were expecting from a dessert tour! Day 3 was really good, still tiring as it was another long long drive, but the landscapes were amazing, you go from desert to snow in a matter of hours and the colours and villages are other-wordly. Shame that we stopped at a filming studio (which we had to pay for, although it seemed like it was included in the cost of the ticket) and a town that is basically made for tourist (still pretty, but no locals live there, only businesses selling the usual stuff), rather than one of the hundreds villages scattered along the way. All in all, our guide was lovely and we are still in touch with him - unless you are an all inclusive kind of tourist, this is not the tour for you. They should really try to offer more authentic experiences, and support local communities and keep a better eye on animal welfare. There is so much potential but it's all missed in the name of the immediate gain.
Annika_B, Mar 2023
Mohammed and Driss! You can tell, that these both love their job. They even gave us great tips for the rest of our trip. Driss speaks English and French very well and knows a lot of people on the route and about the places themselves. Mohammed is also very friendly and seems like a nice and calm person.
We were only five people in the group, which made the experience very enjoyable, because it felt very personal: We could decide when to eat, or when we needed a short break from driving.
I really enjoyed the whole tour, but it was a lot of driving, which was probably due to the long distances of the spots. Personally, I would’ve enjoyed some more remote stops, like a calmer, more local restaurant, that isn’t full of fellow tourists only.
Response from Host, Mar 2023
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the tour and found both Mohammed and Driss to be knowledgeable and friendly.
We appreciate your feedback regarding the amount of driving and the desire for more remote stops. We will take this into consideration when planning future tours and try to incorporate more local and off-the-beaten-path stops for a more authentic experience.
Thank you again for choosing our tour company and we hope to have the opportunity to serve you in the future.
Ezekiel_O, Jan 2023
It was so much fun and our driver - Mohammed is such a gem. We were five persons on the trip and basically became friends after that. We ate together , climbed the hills and rode the camels in dessert. Coincidentally, it was during world cup and Morocco won Spain so it was such a vibe. Definitely recommend
Response from Host, Mar 2023
Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience of your trip to Morocco and for recommending it to others. It sounds like you had a great time with your driver Mohammed and your group of five became good friends during the trip. It's great to hear that you enjoyed the food,
We're thrilled that you enjoyed your time in Morocco and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back soon. Thank you again for choosing our services and for taking the time to write a review.

The route from Fès through Ifrane and Azrou in the Middle Atlas was dusted with snow and plunged in low cloud but visually wonderful. Lunch in Midelt and then on through Errachidia to Erfoud, Merzouga and the desert. Lots of time in a van, but it was comfortable, especially in a group of 5, and our driver-guide, Hassan - I’m sure others are good, but this charming gentleman must be the best - made sure it was. The desert experience - camel-riding, watching the sun set, glamping, dinner followed by drumming and singing by multi-tasking glamp staff in front of a fire outside - was fun even for the least-adapted to the task. Warning: the desert is cold at night, very cold in January. The sun rose before our eyes at 8 am after a night on which extra blankets were a must and even glamping was still camping. Day 2 took us to Ouazerzate, beginning with the market at Rissani - life in the region came to life - and going on to the Todra and Dadès Gorges. The landscapes are dramatic in very different ways. Glamping was replaced by a hotel room. The highlight of day 3 was the visit to Ait Ben Haddou. For some it was Game of Thrones, for others Lawrence of Arabia, but film memories were there for all. And some history and architecture too. Then over the mountains to Marrakech. Again a lot of time on the road, but Hassan had the bases covered for the stops. Very glad to have done the kilometres and seen the sights. A special word for the gentle, soft-spoken Hassan: he was kind and attentive, made sure everyone was as happy as could be, chose lunch places to give a local food experience at very fair prices, and made provision for local shopping. One could not have wished for a better person to accompany a group. He knew the road and all the places and people and we all gained from his knowledge, consideration, kindness and vigilance. He made the whole very good experience so much better.
Response from Host, Mar 2023
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of your trip to Morocco with us. We are delighted to hear that you had a visually wonderful and comfortable journey with Hassan as your driver-guide. It is great to know that you enjoyed the desert experience, even though it was cold at night. We are glad that you appreciated Hassan's kindness, attentiveness, and knowledge, which made your trip even more memorable. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Morocco in the future

Nice tour, 5 hours driving per day nice stay in the tent camp and hotel. stops are nearby turistic spots and extra lunches are expensive compared to Moroccan prices.
Response from Host, Jan 2023
Thank you for your review and for choosing to travel with us. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed the tour . We understand your concern about the cost of the extra lunches and appreciate your feedback. At "Fes Desert tour ", we strive to offer fair prices and high-quality services to all of our customers. This 3-day desert tour was fantastic--great scenes, good pace, and, most importantly, professional and nice drivers! We booked small group tour with five of us travelling from Fez to Merzouga for the first day. After staying overnight in the desert, only two of us went on to Marrakech. We truly appreciated that the company made its commitment to allow us to continue the rest two-day travel just like a private tour. Both drivers were nice and patient, with a lot of knowledge about local customs.
Response from Host, Mar 2023

This was an excellent value, very professional trip that took in all the highlights between Fes and Marrakesh. Our driver and guide Abdul was the most knowledgeable, friendly, warm, kind guide you could wish for and really made the trip. We were lucky to get a small group which made everything easier and more enjoyable. As it was just before the high season I think we got upgraded to a luxury desert camp - this was nice but maybe not so authentic. Be aware you only visit the very edge of the desert but it's still a great experience. I really recommend this tour.
Response from Host, Mar 2023
Thank you for taking the time to share your positive experience with us! We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your trip with us and that our driver and guide Abdul made your journey memorable. Abdullah and Muhammad were amazing tour guides! The trip was absolutely spectacular. Do be prepared for long car rides, but very gracious with stops for bathroom and coffee breaks. I had a great time with the others in my small group. We were also put into the luxury tent instead, which was amazing. Wake up early for the sunrise, and make sure you take some time at night to stargaze!

Very nice experience. We had a driver named Youcef, he was so nice, open minded, funny and full of knowledge. It was perfect.

Always wanted to go to the desert and this tour has definitely done its job well and got my dream realised.
There are two main wonderful experiences, the first one was definitely the night staying in the desert, where we did camel riding for almost an hour, then seeing sunset on the soft sand, ending the night with a delicious Moroccan dinner, a campfire performance and a clear starry sky. The campsite is beautifully arranged and it was worth the money.
The other good thing about the tour was the guide/driver - Ali Bouyakbane. He is a very nice man that flexibly accommodates the group's needs. He explained things very well and was very helpful in helping me to reach out to my host in Marrakesh when he dropped me off at Marrakesh. His driving skill was wonderful as it did not give me any carsick (it is a journey with many hours of car rides, so a man with good driving skills is crucial). The tour did have another guide called Hachem, he was also a nice man but unfortunately we did not have much time to be with him.
