This was well worth the cost to have all the details taken care of in advance. Moray was a great guide, and the quantity/variety/pace of the experiences at the various distilleries (and the Whisky Vault) was pretty perfect. (But when they tell you you need dinner reservations in Bowmore, you really do - even for 1.)

Outstanding Islay Distillery Experience

Our 4-day Islay distillery tour exceeded all expectations from start to finish. Our group of 16 never felt crowded – whether we were traveling in the mini bus or enjoying the intimate tastings at each distillery. The well-thought-out itinerary struck the perfect balance between structured visits and flexibility, and Stefan, our guide, was absolutely outstanding – not only was he incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, but his genuine enthusiasm and local expertise led us to some fantastic bonus stops that weren't part of the original plan. The entire trip ran seamlessly without a single hiccup, from the great B&B accommodation that served as our comfortable home base to the excellent coordination that meant we never had to worry about timing – everything flowed effortlessly from one experience to the next. Stefan's personable nature and insider knowledge of the island made each day feel like exploring with a knowledgeable friend rather than following a rigid tour schedule. The combination of exceptional guidance, comfortable transportation, quality accommodation, and seamless logistics created an unforgettable whisky experience. This was such an enjoyable experience! We visited 8 different distilleries as well as the Whisky Vault and several historical sites. Our accommodations for 3 nights at the Bowmore House B&B were spacious; we had a great view and the proprietors were anxious to make us comfortable.

Making the trek to Islay and visiting their world famous distilleries is a massive undertaking, but with this tour all of the planning, last minute changes, and transport are handled so seamlessly that you wonder why you ever felt any trepidation. Murray picked us up in a clean, comfortable van and we traveled through gorgeous countryside to reach the ferry that took us to the island. Idyllic accommodations awaited us, and over the next 2 days we were treated to incredible experiences and whiskey that you could only try there, and sometimes would never be had again. What made this an easy 5-star tour was Murray, because he not only knew what to expect and had relationships with all of the distilleries, townsfolk, and workers, but he brought personality to the tour and kept everything light. Group dynamics will certainly shape how enjoyable each tour is, and to have such an excellent guide as the foundation for those dynamics, it means that you may be surprised the whiskey isn’t the most memorable part of the tour.
