Amazing trip! I recommend the private tour. This was a tough hike for me, a 63 year old woman. I tried to hike the entire thing, but was encouraged to take the pony. The way down was much easier. 😉

Absolutely outstanding day. Superb communication throughout and Alex (our guide) was excellent. It’s physically pretty exerting if you go to the very summit and don’t take a horse but it’s worth every effort

The rainbow mountain

It was a long ride to go there but it was worth it. Our tour guide, Edwin, was a good guy and stayed with us all the time during the difficult climb of this mountain. The driver was good but he drove much too fast in my opinion, a specially on the narrow roads which made me feel very uncomfortable.

Beautiful natural wonder

This was an amazing experience to go to 16,000 feet above sea level and enjoy the mountaintops. One word of warning - don't believe the Instagram and Tourist Agency photos. The rainbow mountains are pretty, but don't look anything like what you see online with the vibrant pink, greens and blues. I have uploaded an un-retouched photo. The guides were great when we got to the mountain, but barely talked the 4 hours we were driving back and forth - this is very different from other private tours I took in Peru. My recommendation is that they learn more about the countryside to make things more interesting. It was nice that since it was a private tour we were able to start a couple of hours late. However, when we got to the lunch buffet the food was old and cold except for the vegetable soup, which was excellent. When we got to the mountain we knew we did NOT want to walk two miles to the summit, so we rented donkeys for ourselves and our guide. I recommend that for anyone not ready to hike at 16,000 feet.

Great Day Trip Excursion

Breathtaking views of Rainbow Mountain and the Andes. Well worth the hike up. Our guide Edwar was fantastic! Always reminding up to walk slowly and drink lots of water (almost 5000 m elevation)
