This is an exceptional excursion! Nikos was so kind and knowledgeable of the island. He made us feel like we were family. I walk using a walker and he did everything to make me feel comfortable. I would recommend this tour to anyone.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
We are so glad you enjoyed the tour around Chania old town. Nikos is an excellent guide, knowledgeable and friendly. All our tours are private, so flexible and accommodating to your needs. We hope to see you again and spend more time in west Crete.

George “the tall guy” was a great guide. He is obviously well educated in history and politics and we learned quite a bit about the wars and current military installations in Crete. The church atop the hill was inspirational. The mostly self guided tour of the Venetian portion of Chania was great because George told us what not to miss and arranged for an oil, balsamic, raki, honey and nut butter tasting which was fantastic. We ended up buying a bunch of items because we knew how good it tasted. We purchased beautiful linens. After viewing outside and inside the walls of the old city, we toured some additional beaches. It’s cool now but the water was calm and shallow. It’s perfect for when it’s hot out. I’d highly recommend a tour with George because he customized it to meet our expectations.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
We are glad you enjoyed Chania tour. Because its a private tour, we are flexible and can adjust to what you like or want to see. Each traveller has different priorities and interests, eg history or shopping. Our tour guides try to focus on your interests, and put more weight on what you like. George is no exception and because your accommodation was close to these nice beaches, spent a little bit more time driving around them. In this tour lunch is optional, as well as wine tasting, visiting the archaeological museum or the synagogue. We want travellers to have the best experience in Chania and Crete, whatever they choose to do. We wish the best for the rest of your holidays in Greece.
Jerry_W, Nov 2025
Thank you George for a GREAT day! The downtown of Chania was better than we ever thought as were the shops you brought us to run by 4th generation family. The scenery, the ruins, the love of your town that you gave to us was priceless. Do not miss this tour with George!
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Thank you so much for your kind words. All our guides put an effort to show you the best of the town. George is very knowledgeable. In our tours we try to give as much information as possible, without being boring, and talk about nature, history, traditions and many other topics you find interesting. Our tours are educational rather than just driving around. Hope to see you again in Chania, Crete!
phil_i, Nov 2025
My wife and I and our friends from Toronto had a very nice day in Chania with our driver Peter!! He was terrific and extremely nice but most of all very well versed and knowledgeable!! The excursion for the day was very well worth the time. We would highly recommend Peter and or his brother to go on tour with!! A+++ Tour!!
Thank you….
Phil and Cheryl Atlanta Ga!!
Response from Host, Nov 2025
We are so glad you enjoyed the tour! I (Peter) like all our guides try to give the best possible experience and be flexible depending on the travellers' needs. We talk a bit, trying to give information about various topics, without being too boring. At Niriis tours we hope to see you or your friends again in the future. Enjoy the rest of your cruise!
Paul_G, Oct 2025
George was extremely knowledgeable about the island and history. He drove us to the important historical stops as well as gave us time on our own to visit recommended shops and restaurants. He was my favorite tour guide amongst all our cruise stops.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
We are so glad you enjoyed the tour of Chania. There are many places to visit and see around Chania and Crete. The old town is picturesque and can go shopping. Thanks for tolerating our non-stop talking. Hope to see you again in the future!
Julie_I, Oct 2025
Our tour of Old Town Chania with Elsa was great! She is delightful, knowledgeable, and ever so passionate about Chania. I would highly recommend taking her tour. You won't be disappointed.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Elsa is an excellent guide, like all guides we cooperate with. We try to give you a unique experience and glimpse of Chania. We hope to see you again in the future!
Brandi_L, Sep 2025
George was amazing and a wealth of knowledge.
It is very apparent he loves his city, country, and what he does. We absolutely loved this tour and learning about his town. He gave amazing recommendations when we were in the Old City and we loved every minute of it.
Response from Host, Sep 2025
Your amazing words flatter us and give us greater incentives to offer the best possible services to our customers, to explore and learn about Chania as well the Greek and the Cretan culture! It was great being with us and thank you for choosing us, as your private tour company in Chania Crete Greece!!
Cheryl_E, Sep 2025
Our guide George was wonderful. He is friendly, well educated, travelled extensively, soft spoken and funny. He did not stop talking about various topics, on culture, traditions, nature, economics, politics, basketball, and so much more. He could make comparison between Greece, Europe, the US and the world and has a good understanding of current events (he studied Modern history and politics and has two MAs). This is not a history tour, boring with dates and events. It was extremely interesting, and we still visited the monuments and highlights of Chania old town. He was patient with us and stopped at shops to see and taste local products. We also visited the Commonwealth Cemetery from WW2 which was very moving. He responded to messages quickly, was punctual and flexible to our requests and our slow pace as we were a group of six older adults over the age of 60. I would highly recommend George and his company Niriis Tours.
Response from Host, Sep 2025
What we can say? Your great words are so greatly appreciated and the only thing we did is to enjoy and make the most out of your visit here in beautiful Chania! We thank you so much for these fabolous comments and we will make sure we transfer those to George! We truly hope to get to see you again and visit Chania Crete Greece!

Petros was a great guide with tons of knowledgeable information about all the archeological sites. It was a little more walking than I had imagined but it was a good tour. We loved Petros.
Response from Host, Sep 2025

Excellent tour of Old Town Chania and surrounding area! The team was flexible in handling our situation of a last minute change in our arrival port. Zoe was also wonderful in working with mobility limitations of one of our family. Petros and Zoe were both very knowledgeable about Chania and we thoroughly enjoyed our tour and time in Crete!

radhikachoksi, Jul 2025
Petro was a fantastic tour guide. He went out of his way to explain the history of Chania in depth and took us on a very thorough walking tour of the city. Would highly recommend Petro!
Response from Host, Jul 2025
There is so much to see in Chania and the time you had here was very limited. Petro tried to give you a glimpse of the island, its history, traditions, habits and answer any questions you might have. Hope to see you again!
Maria_P, Jun 2025
Don’t miss this tour if you are Chania. Our guide George was the most knowledgeable historian we have met while in Europe. He took us to all the best spots and was so interesting to learn from.
Response from Host, Jul 2025
Thank you for your kind words! George is an excellent guide. The best guides are not only those who have the historical knowledge, but those who connect with travellers, make the tour interesting and share a wide range of knowledge. Hope we will see you again in the future!
Chad_B, Jun 2025
Petro was simply fantastic!! His insight and knowledge was excellent and kept us all engaged. We were all impressed with the city and its history. The pace of the walking tour was perfect. Lunch was perfect with a local connection. I would highly recommend this tour!

Take care and we truly hope to came back and visit again our beautiful town Chania Crete Greece!
Tami_L, May 2025
We had a great tour with Petros. He picked us up from our cruise port and very nice and friendly. We had rain while we were there, but Petros knew how to make the best of our day without getting very damp. Chania was a charming town to visit. We enjoyed the Shops that he gave us time to shop in, and he offered to take photos of all our memorable stops.
Response from Host, May 2025
The weather was unusually cold and rainy at end of April, but glad we made it through with a smile. It was good to brave the weather, because its not certain when you will visit Chania again. In the low season there are less visitors so you saw the city in its pure beauty. In private tours like this, we go with your pace and interests, making stops where required. Photos in particular are very important, they are your memories but also the best advertising of Greece. Peter on the other hand is amazing, having studied business in the US while he had a basketball scholarship. He has been around, is an accountant and manager so knows how to connect a Greek experience to an American point of view. We hope to see you in the future in Crete, for a longer stay. We can give better price if booking directly, just search Niriis Tours.
Jeff_R, May 2025
Quite a bit of walking over sometimes uneven streets, but well worth it! George was a wonderful tour guide and excellent driver.
Response from Host, May 2025
We are happy you enjoyed the tour of Chania old town. George is knowledgeable, he talks non-stop interesting information. Chania old town has a bit of walking, and there are areas with stairs. Cars cannot enter or park in the old town. Depending on guests we sometimes skip locations which might be too difficult to get to and go on a slower pace if needed. In general we try to show you as much as possible within 3 hours, then travellers can eat at a restaurant, go shopping or return to their accommodation/ship.
Boris_B, Apr 2025
George was very well prepared. He even helped us to out excellent parking and very detailed directions from the beginning. He did a superb tour with so much knowledge. We stepped into so many places where he introduced us to the intrinsically of Chania… without a good guide like him you would walk by and think it is a store :). One time it was an old church that became a mosque and had graves with glas covers under it… super cool. He ended with us at a secret spot out of the way (really weird looking at the beginning) which became the most amazing view point. Thank you George !
Response from Host, Apr 2025
We are happy you had a wonderful day in Chania. The advantage of private tours is that we go with your pace and visit locations that other larger groups can't go. Chania old town is very beautiful, safe and easy to walk around. Hope we will see you again in the future!
bryan_a, Apr 2025
Great experience! Petros was fantastic, had great details. We had a wonderful time and learned so much
Response from Host, Apr 2025
We are glad you enjoyed Chania old town. We try to show educate as much as possible, not only on history, but culture, traditions, politics and daily life.
Ken_B, Apr 2025
This company is two brothers who operate the tours. Our guide/driver was George, we met his brother Peter as you will be told to look for the VERY tall guy. Both brothers are extremely personable, professional with excellent English. Peter played Basketball in the USA and George has an international hospitality/hotel background. They are both native Cretans. I say this to provide context for the level of service and experiences over and above the standard listed in the description. Communication was prompt, the meeting place was easy, George is a history buff and takes the time to include the islands history in the tour experience. I would highly recommend this tour for your Chania visit. Great flexibility, early start time to get you ahead of the other cruise passengers/groups. Definitely a five star experience from this provider!! Thanks for a great day!!
Response from Host, Apr 2025
We are happy that you had such a nice experience in Chania. We want you to have an excellent time in Chania, learn and explore as much as possible in your limited time (coming with cruise ship). Departing early is very important so we skip traffic, heat and tourists. We wish you safe travels from the brothers!
Sharon_E, Apr 2025
This is a great tour of the old town area including several religious sites, archaeological sites, as well as a sampling of the local culture and life in the city. We stopped at a local establishment where we had samples of olive oil, butter, honey, and several other yummy Greek foods / toppings. Our guide, George, was outstanding and so knowledgeable. He tailored the tour to the things that we found most interesting. We elected to extend the tour and drive up into the mountains to go to a farm to table restaurant that cooks everything on open fire. The restaurant recommendation was provided by our guide and it was excellent. We had a sampling of all the dishes they serve. Thankfully, the guide helped us with the ordering😊. We highly recommend this tour.
Response from Host, Apr 2025
We are happy you had such a great day in Chania old town and the mountains. It was a pleasure to guide you. Visiting Chania in the low season in April means less heat, traffic and tourists, plus a lush green nature in the mountains. We hope to see you again to explore more of Crete (and mountain restaurants, although you visited the best). Wish you safe travel back home. George
Leigh_M, Oct 2024
A wonderful tour. Our guide, Petros was very knowledgeable and showed us the history of Chania that we never would have seen on our own - the sites are scattered throughout the old town including in a souvenir shop! Petros even took us to a local restaurant and helped us order local dishes. So glad we took this tour and have a new friend in Chania!
Response from Host, Oct 2024
Petros and all our team at Niriis Tours are locals with a passion in showing you the Cretan culture, history and traditions. Its nice to walk around and enjoy the beauty of Chania. There is so much to see and taste in west Crete. Perhaps we will meet again!
Angela_L, Oct 2024
We had wonderful time visiting Crete. Petros was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the island and its people. There is a lot of walking and we saw some of the ruins, shopped and ate lunch. It was a great day!
Response from Host, Oct 2024
Its charming to walk around the narrow alleys of Chania old town. The food is excellent and cheap. We hope to see you again!
Michael_S, Oct 2024
We thoroughly enjoyed our day in Chania! Our guide George was right on time and made sure we saw all the important places. He was very flexible and even found us an awesome place for lunch! We had a great day and would highly recommend his tour!
Response from Host, Oct 2024
We are happy you enjoyed Chania tour and lunch. Chania is a beautiful city laden with layers of history, various invaders and civilisations. Hope to see you again in Chania, Crete.
Stella_R, Oct 2024
In one word Awful!!! It was a complete waste of my time & money!! Firstly the guide sent me a nasty message bullying me into removing bad feedback which I did not leave, why would I complain about Cruise ship people when I was on a cruise ship! Obviously someone else had a bad experience on tour with this guide. Secondly I paid a lot of money for the two hours we toured with this guide, we didn’t leave an hour earlier we left two hours early! We didn’t see the reason in torturing ourselves any longer with this guide as we didn’t see anything of interest a closed Synagogue door? Multiple archways in various hotels very awkward being in people’s way who are trying to get out of the hotel with luggage & door knockers?? Then we were taken to a Cul di Sac where homeless people & Drug Addics reside? That was the end of our tour looking at the same view we had already seen downstairs to which I had already taken photos, why would you put us through something like that with my 81 year old Mother? The Drug Addict that was there made me feel uncomfortable he was starring us down! The guide’s comment about not to worry he would protect us did nothing to relieve us of our fears especially if he were to be attacked & we were left vulnerable, we wouldn’t put ourselves in that position in our country let alone a foreign country. We had to watch the guide eat plants from an old women’s garden surrounded by wire? we kept walking to No Where up & down stairs in the heat when I mentioned to the guide to please keep the walking up & down steep stairs to a minimum as this was too much for my 81 year old mother to which he ignored! it was about to down pour & all the undercover cafe’s were full. The guide kept pushing for us to have a break & sit at a cafe we just started touring we just had breakfast prior to starting our tour we didn’t want to sit down, clearly the guide wanted to off load his responsibility & kill time! we stopped to shop for a comfortable pair of shoes for my mother as she had blisters on her feet so she could continue to tour! The guide complained about this, how dare he, this was our time not his I paid a lot of money for this private tour that time was taken out of our tour & not his time he parked his car miles away in this time & we started walking on our tour from there! That’s why it took the guide so long to come back to pick us up!! He stopped us from shopping in the stores we liked only to be dragged into stores of his liking not ours to view products that we were totally uninterested in!! Very unprofessional from the start Big Red Flag when he kept insisting when. I made the booking that my mobile number was incorrect? Did he not see the prefix stating that it was an AU Mobile Number? Yet he kept insisting it was incorrect!! Then the guide prior to the tour made suggestions to go to a village & view arts & crafts I wanted to do this but then he kept saying most people don’t want to do this so I said Ok then we would just stick to the Itinerary mentioned on his site, then why did he initially suggest it? Was he that I would say No? Just weird! I even complained that I didn’t even get to see the church mentioned in the Itinerary, that was his chance to say we still have two more hours instead of leaving let’s go see this now!! But Nothing!! Even when I wanted to take a photo in the end of the goat on the rocks outside the city he speed right past not even giving me a chance to take a photo just nasty extremely inappropriate!! It was a complete waste of my money & time I really just want to put the whole BAD experience behind me!! Would Not Recommend.
Response from Host, Oct 2024
This is George the manager and owner of Niriis tours, that did the tour with you. We are sorry you did not enjoy the tour as you expected. We have a different view than yours, and I will explain why. Most things written in this review are incorrect, and can prove it, for example the length of tour, things visited or the message I sent. Unfortunately we cannot satisfy all our guests.
You mention that Chania was not interesting. You are within the few rare exceptions that did not like Chania, because almost all reviews in the web are positive. You compared Venice with Chania and told me that Venice was more interesting. Of course it is. But you cannot compare so different locations and in this case you should not travel because everything is less interesting.
First of all, the tour ended 1 hour earlier (you said 2 hours). Chania old tour is 1 hour driving (including parking) and 3 hours walking around the old town with a stop in the middle. As you wrote, we toured 2 hours, not 3 hours as the tour is, and you did not have a break, that usually lasts 15 minutes. Therefore you finished 45 minutes earlier, not two hours as you claim. When I dropped you off I looked the time. Nevertheless, you chose not to visit some places, and did not want a break (despite your mother not being able to walk comfortably) so it was not my fault that the tour ended earlier or that your mother had blisters.
I also did an extra stop in Chania town at your request for your mother to shop sandals, it took around 20 minutes, but was willing not to charge and extend the tour.
I and other guides do similar tours, to show you the highlights of Chania. This is what I did. It’s a pity you did not find it interesting, but most other people and your friends who recommended it did. Its ok, not everyone likes the same things.
I did not take you where homeless and drug addicts stay. Some antifa stay in a building, they have different views than most people, but are not homeless or drug addicts and do not interact with tourists. We did not go in the building, talked to anyone. One person was sitting on a bench and looked at us as we approached. I am sorry if you are scared so easily, I believe in most places there are such people, are you scared every time you see them?
I understood that you were scared, when you said to stop and go back, but I assured you that it was fine and the view excellent. I did not insist and did as you wished.
The view was not the same, you cannot compare the views. It was at the upper part of the Byzantine fort with view to the mountains, fortifications and you could see the city from top.
When you got in the car, I asked you if its easy for you to walk, because I saw your mother that she was old. You told me she can walk fine, but you needed to buy sandals. Then I drove to Chania and took you to an area that there are a few shops, Bershka, Zara, sport shops and others.
After one hour walk in the old town I suggested to you to take a break and stop at a cafe. You said you did not want a stop. Then we started walking up the hill where the Byzantine fort was, your mother was tired and sat on rails. But less than a minute ago I told you to take a break and you told me to continue. You did not tell me that your mother had blisters or that you wanted a stop, so I continued.
I did not park miles away, it was 5 minute walk and then driving another 5 minutes to where you are. You cannot park in the old town. I tried to go and bring the car to where I told you to meet. My parking location is closer to where the tourist busses stop, they have to walk around 15 minutes to get to town.
I did not drag you to shops, I showed you a traditional potterer, how houses are built, which are now refurbished as hotels, a building which changed 3 religions and now is a shop, and did a food tasting. Everything was free, I did not try to sell you anything.
I suggest travellers to visit the WW2 cemetery near Souda, the handicrafts village or a restaurant. I send this e-mail to all cruise ship tours. I proposed and you chose not to do it. This is extra time not included in the tour, for no extra money, but you did not want. I did not skip anything, we could do the tour for 3 hours but you chose to leave earlier.
You say that I bullied you, I threatened you, that I was nasty. I have taken a screenshot of our communication, to prove that this is not true. We received a review after your tour, it said that we finished earlier the tour, and that they did not like the old town. You are the only tour I did that we finished earlier and also did not like the town. This must have been a great coincidence which fooled me to believe it was you who wrote the review. I sent you a message asking why you did not like or what went wrong, like every business would do it. Anyone would think the same if this happened to them. I apologised twice for the misunderstanding.
I did not see the goat and because I was driving, I could not brake just like that in the middle of the road.
I did whatever best I could, and I am sorry this was not up to your standards. I really cannot believe the things you wrote.
