Itinerary

With this tour, there are several different packages to choose from. If you’ve chosen the private Chengdu Panda Base and Sanxingdui package, board a private vehicle and head for the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, just 30 minutes' drive away.

Disembark and spend the next three hours exploring with your private guide. Learn about conservation and rehabilitation efforts for this endangered species. View pandas relaxing, playing, and munching on bamboo in their spacious enclosures. At the center's museum, see displays detailing the very first successful giant panda breeding efforts accomplished here. You'll also see veterinary exhibits, flocks of birds, golden monkeys, a koi pond, and red pandas.

Next, head to Sanxingdui Museum in the afternoon and see significant archeological discoveries of the 20th century, then head back to your hotel later.

If you've chosen the small-group option, meet at a central shuttle bus station and head directly to the Sanxingdui Museum with a small group in a public shuttle bus. Spend 3-4 hours visiting, then head back to your original meeting point.

For the Jinsha option, get picked up and head directly to the Jinsha site where you can learn about the ancient people who lived in the area over 3,000 years ago. See original relics that are still half-buried in the earth as well as several other items that have been excavated.

Later, after lunch, head to Sanxingdui Museum to learn about the bronze-age people that have been shrouded in mystery. This ancient kingdom predates the Jinsha site and the museum is home to many relics created by this group.

There is also the option to not have a guide and simply transfer by Chinese speaking driver.

Wind up your tour and head back to Chengdu for drop-off at your hotel.

Pandas and Ancient History in One Perfect Day

We chose this tour because we wanted to visit the Sanxingdui Museum, as it was suggested by a personal friend of mine from Chengdu, and we thought that going with a guide would make the experience more informative. We also saw that it could be combined with the Panda Reserve visit in Chengdu, so it seemed like a great opportunity to learn more about these lovely and cute animals. Without even realising, we booked another tour for the following day with the same agency, which turned out to be the best decision. Because of an event happening near the museum, doing the original tour on the first day would have been very difficult, therefore the agency suggested swapping the two tours, which worked perfectly. For this tour, we met Victor on the second day. He was once again our driver and guide, and he arrived right on time at our hotel. He was, as on the first day, very professional and very informative, both at the reserve and at the museum. We stopped for lunch at a local noodle place, since we did not feel like having a big meal, and it was exactly what we needed. We highly recommend this tour, and especially Victor, thanks to his excellent English level and his knowledge. It is a great option for anyone who wants to learn more about Sichuan, Chengdu, pandas, and the ancient civilisation of Sanxingdui.

A must do when in Chengdu

Great Tour! Wing was a really knowledgeable guide. Because of his experience, we were able to see the pandas even though the panda base was crowded. He was also our guide at the museum and gave us thorough and interesting explanation of the history surrounding the site and pointing out the significant and 'must-view' artifacts. We would highly recommend this tour, from the transport, the guide, his recommendations and assistance in getting admission tickets.

Incredible museum and guide

This is one of the most incredible museums I've ever been to and Victor was an amazing guide. He gave a thorough explanation of everything from the history of the discovery of the site to what archaeologists have learned about the objects. He brought me to all the most significant objects and helped me understand why they were significant. I think this is a must do if you're visiting Chengdu.
