Overall, it was a great trip! We're so glad we did it. The kids loved the experience. We caught 7 crabs and then had it for lunch. We also tried fishing like the locals do it. It's much harder than it looks! The mangroves were quite something and very interesting. Def. worth the trip. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable too. The trip organizers were very organized and responsive. We received the picture of the car that would pick us up along with the guide, so we knew who we were looking for. Must do!

A very unique and different tour than you will find when compared to other offerings in Cartagena. Picked up from hotel we were staying at right on time and our driver and English translator John was a very good driver and had a lot of information regarding Cartagena. Water shoes are advisable when you start fishing and using the crab traps. Our fisherman Louis was very patient with our kids on teaching them how to cast the net correctly and also allowed us to participate as much as we wanted to in all the activities. Definitely recommend doing this tour if you looking for a fun half day activity.

Safe, fun, highly educational, personable. Highly recommend this operator & experience. Paying the pittance extra for the private island was absolutely worth it. Wait until you meet the resident racoon (but mind you, he's an ankle biter). The roads get a little crazy, but you're almost there when they do.

Our guide, Andres, was truly outstanding, one of the best guides we have ever had. He is knowledgeable, passionate about sharing local culture and history, and genuinely attentive to guests. He also has a strong international mindset and thoughtfully guided us on tipping the local fisherman appropriately, which we appreciated. Andres stayed fully engaged with us throughout the entire experience. We were picked up at our hotel in the old town. The driver sent a picture of himself and his car so we could meet up easily. Once we met our local guide/fisherman, we toured the mangroves for a short time before stopping to try fishing by casting a large round net. I need more practise at this!! After that we checked our crab traps, and toured some more of the channels. Then we returned to the coast and had a delicious fish lunch along with the crabs we had caught. Part of the visit had us walking in the knee high water of the mangrove. The bottom was sandy and easy to walk on; no water shoes needed. As you are on the water so much apply LOTS of sunscreen.

This is an all around great experience. Add the private Island to the tour! Dance, drink, tour and laugh. The host at the Island made it very well worth the stop. Very friendly and great service. This was very fun. The locals hosting the tour are very welcoming and nice. They took care of us and made sure we had everything we needed before we started the tour. Canoeing through the mangroves was relaxing and provided shade from the sun. Catching crab was epic! Learning to throw the net was so fun. I am not a big fan of crab eating but the cooking option was worth the try. Get into the water when the canoe is stopped. Enjoy the trip and experience. Do not miss out.

Great adventure in nature

Great “live like a local” tour. Nothing contrived. Felt like I was treated like a villager fisherman doing what he would normally do. Andres was super as a translator and Miguel was a considerate driver. It was a little intimidating seeing some of the seedier parts of the city but felt very safe with Miguel and Andres. The restaurant was a large palapa where locals would hang out. The crabbing and net throwing experience was fun and the mangroves were absolutely stunning. I would skip the optional “island” visit which was the only time I felt touristed. Highly recommend.

It was ok. The fishermen was very nice and friendly. We rode in a small boat around a lake and learned to throw a net and the gages for the crabs. Not much was biting in that day but all and all it was nice. I gave it 3 stars cause I thought it was pricey for all that we did.

This experience was better than I could have imagined. We went into what was like a fishermen’s village to access the mangrove forests. Our boat captain guided us gently through the most beautiful waterways with the trees covering the way. When we entered into the open water ways, we got into the water and caught snails, set out crab traps, and learned how to fish with the traditional nets. It was such a beautiful and amazing experience. From there, we went to the small island pit stop. I won’t spoil the surprise, but I will say that it is absolutely worth it. Some things to note: Wear sunscreen, bring extra Drink TONS of water, you will overheat without realizing it. Wear clothes that can get dirty. It’s worth getting completely into it!

Was great! Everything was set up for us- transport from our airbnb, a spanish interpretor who was so fun!, and canoe guide! We did the island tour which is basically a museum of local trades( farm fishing, drum playing, learning about the benifits of the mangroves) and also did the crab cooking extra. So worth it. We were also allowed to captain the canoe, net fish and crab trap. And there were so many birds! The person who owns this excursion does others and I wish I knew ahead of time because I would have done more with him!

We enjoyed this experience. Michael, the owner, was quick to help us problem solve when our driver was late in picking us up. We still had plenty of time on the water and for the kids to try to catch crabs and do a little net fishing. It was low season, so we only caught 5 crabs, but that was plenty for us to have a fun experience with the kiddos. We enjoyed the island visit and had a really yummy lunch on the beach. Great day in the Mangroves

Last day in Colombia - absolutely beautiful blue skies and hot/humid in Cartagena, so a great day to be on the water. John picked us up near our AirBnB in the old city, 20 minute drive to the village where we took off in a small boat. Our boys had a great time placing the cages and then collecting the crabs. We had multiple opportunities to throw a fishing net - although I think that's more for fun than to really catch any fish. John and our local fisherman did a great job taking us through the mangrives. We had a great lunch and for a small fee got to eat the crabs we caught. Great half day experience and would recommend it to anyone interested in nature.

I have to say, all the people that had a part in this were wonderful. We loved the net- fishing, setting traps, and the boat ride. The food was delicious and the presentation was on point. Definitely something we will cherish for years to come when we talk about our trip to Colombia. Getting away for the tourism atmosphere and into the local way was amazing. Definitely something you can't experience everywhere. Thanks guys.
