I traveled solo to the area and had the best time. My guide Miguel was more than friendly, he was knowledgeable of the area and treated me like family.
It was a long day doing both activities but it was so worth it and I recommend that everyone experience this!

I would give this 10 stars if I could. Miguel had the absolute best itinerary to make sure we experienced the mud volcano without the crowds. He explained everything very thoroughly. As we went through Palenque, it was clear that he was loved and respected by everyone in the community. I also appreciate that he encouraged us to support the local economy. Every stop felt special as we sampled, traditional medicine, food, music, and dance. This is a really special place and it deserves to be seen with a guide as fantastic as Miguel.

It started good driver picked us up on time then got to the mud place everbody there started arguing with our tour guide and made it very ackward and uncomfortable it was not planned right but it got worst heading to the next location road was closed so we couldn't go, only a quarter of the planned day was done we understand it was not the tour guide fault but what bothered me is that he was trying to give us 25% back of what we paid...we paid a total of $395 for 2 tickets and was only trying to give us $100 back when not even close of the advertised activities and food were not provided, how is it our fault and we had to pay for nothing, i felt he defrauded us with this

My name is Miguel Eduardo Díaz Vidal, and I was Ms. Anabel's guide. I sincerely regret any inconvenience you experienced and wish to clarify what happened, as well as reiterate my commitment to quality service.
The incident with the photographers
I understand that the interaction with the local photographers might have been confusing. Sometimes, the way natives communicate can seem confrontational, even if it's just their usual way of interacting. However, as soon as I noticed your discomfort, I intervened to ensure the situation was properly resolved. I explained the local dynamics to the clients and, together with the venue's administration, clarified that the photographers' claim was unfounded, ensuring you were not affected.
Unforeseen event on the way to San Basilio de Palenque
After enjoying the experience at the Totumo Volcano, we were heading to a quick stop when I received news from my guide in San Basilio de Palenque about a protest blocking access. Upon informing the clients, they immediately decided to return to avoid a long traffic jam. I respected their decision, although I did try to confirm if passage was possible. Seeing that I couldn't convince them to wait, we began our return.
The refund and incurred expenses
During the return trip, the clients requested a refund for the activities not carried out in Palenque. I explained that a direct refund was not within my authority, but given their insistence, and to compensate for the missing activities, I gave them $400,000 COP, equivalent to $100 USD. This amount specifically covered what could not be done: the visit to the dance school, payment to the local guide, the visit to the ancestral medicine space, the visit to a "matrona" (elderly woman) to learn about typical sweets, and the four toll fees on the way.
It's important to note that the total cost of the excursion already included the vehicle rental, gasoline, car wash, volcano entrance fee, showers, coconuts, and a tasting of local fried foods. Although I explained these fixed and incurred expenses in detail, their response was aggressive, demanding a larger refund and threatening to report the experience as a scam. Finally, they exited the vehicle angrily and reiterated their threats.
My commitment as a service professional
I want to make it cle||ar that at all times I did my best to ensure they enjoyed the experience, and I will always act with the same professionalism. I have been doing this for over a year, and I believe it's fundamental for clients to trust their guide, as we are the ones who know the area and its specific characteristics. When a local's opinion is allowed to cast doubt on the guide's information, it creates an uncomfortable situation for both parties. Natives can sometimes try to influence tourists to get bigger tips, without always considering the best interest of the client.
My priority is to ensure a pleasant and safe experience, anticipating unforeseen events and resolving them in the best possible way.

This all-day tour provided both an enriching exploration of Cartagena’s history as a city and a feel for the local culture that goes above and beyond the typical tourist experience. This is the only tour that combines both the Mud Volcano and Palenque in the same day. In addition, Miguel also made additional food stops to try local cuisines and fruits as well as provided in-depth historical knowledge on the drives in between locations. Highly recommend.

Honestly this combines two experiences that are fun and interesting on their own into one experience. Our guide picked us up from the hotel and did a wonderful job explaining the significance and interesting information about both the mud volcano and Palenque, and the food they took us to was simply amazing. They provided water and fresh fruit through the whole day as well as coconut at the volcano.
In spite of a rain shower while at Palenque, he did a wonderful job keeping things interesting and I don't feel like I lost anything from the weather

Having a private mud bath in itself was such a unique experience. Miguel was incredibly attentive, passionate and engaging throughout which made the whole 8-9 hours so educational and easy. Miguel was a great tour guide. He is very knowledgeable about the area and he speaks enough English to where we didn’t need our translator. Miguel (and Moses) were excellent guides and we both had an amazing time. The mud volcano was both revitalizing and fun. Palenque was a unique and interesting place and we had a great time there making music, dancing, and learning about their culture. Not to mention many delicious treats along the way! We did not go hungry. Miguel was very attentive and made sure we had an incredible time during this entire excursion. Overall great experience. We got to experience the mud volcano without a crowd and had delicious local breakfast snacks. The palenque tour was a very immersive experience. We got to learn about the history and importance of the town. I would highly recommend. Miguel was extremely accommodating and attentive.

Overall Great experience, Miguel the guide took great care of us and communicated everything each step of the way. He made sure to capture every moment for us. It was great to experience the mud and then local palenque culture. The only negative was the tipping, the local people at both stops seem to expect it at every stop/ step of the way which took away from the overall experience as it seemed they were only sharing in return for a tip. Lunch at palenque was amazing!

This tour was the ABSOLUTE BEST!!!!! It was worth every dollar!!! I traveled to Colombia solo, so I wanted to make sure that I felt safe at all times and my driver (now mi amigo) ensured that every step of the way. While the drive was a bit far to the volcano mud and village, Miguel spoke with me about the history and places we were passing by. Miguel was extremely nice, personable, and knowledgeable on Colombian history. I HIGHLY recommend this excursion if you’re traveling solo, with friends or with your family. You won’t regret it!!!!

Enjoyed the African dances, the history and lunch. I did not like how you are expected to keep providing tips for everything we did including taking pictures. We already paid $160 pp . At the mud you had to tip the massage person in the mud, the women who washed it off, the people taking the pictures. Everything was about money and kind of took away from the experience a little for me. They tell you to bring money souvenirs. Not vendors to purchase from . The money really is for tips. Too many interperators.

We always plan everything so that the participants of the experience are comfortable and receive what is specified in the description of the experience. We also send a message at the time of your reservation with recommendations, within which it is specified that tips are not included. If a participant receives extra services such as massages inside the mud volcano, the tip is voluntary. It is important to understand in the social context of both communities that these people put bread on their tables only through tips. Cartagena Experiences pays for all the things you receive and also prepares you for this cultural immersion and contact with the community, the experience is unique and no tip covers the entire exchange you receive.

I absolutely loved this combo tour for the Totumo mud volcano and Palenque. Everything worked out perfectly. I was picked up on time by my guide (and translator) Miguel. We had a great conversation as we traveled to Totumo volcano and he explained to me in detail what to expect etc. I’m so happy the tour started early because I had the entire mud bath to myself which made for a very pleasant experience. The deep tissue massage offered at the volcano was very good! Much better than I actually thought it would be (actually better than I’ve received at many spas). There’s also someone available (for a tip) to take your photos and to assist you at the lake to wash the mud off. And all of the people I interacted with were very professional and easy to work with. The coconut and Colombian food provided afterward were also very good.
Next we traveled to Palenque and I had so much fun learning about the culture and history of this place. We saw a lot so definitely wear comfortable walking shoes! The dance performance was very exciting to watch. You will go to different parts of the town to see the candy shop, boxing club/gym, music studio and chat with an herbalist/ doctor from the area.
Overall the entire experience was 10:10 and I highly recommend booking this tour coordinated by Leandro and Miguel.
