Alina was AMAZING… so knowledgeable about what the country was going through and life during communism compared to now. Presented history in context with the times.

Communist & history tour of Bucharest

    Sam_L, Apr 2025
Alina was a very thorough and informative guide. Showing us plenty of places of interest including Palace of the people (Parliament Palace), Revolution Square and plenty of other buildings of interest. Alina was a very passionate guide, and we all enjoyed being shown around by her. 5 stars for Alina.

Some difficulty understanding our guide. Provided a lot of information. It was interesting that the impression we got from her about the communist time was much less negative that what we heard from other guides.

Thank you for the review , it was a pleasure to meet you and I hope you had a great time in Bucharest.

    Wonderful Tour with Alina

    Jane_L, Nov 2023
Alina gave an outstanding tour. It was just the two of us, and she shared a wealth of information about Romania's creation post-Ottoman Era, the work of King Carol I, Romania between the wars and after, the Communist takeover, life during and since for ordinary Romanians. Honesty, wit and clearsighted delivery; enthusiastic and knowledgeable suggestions for places to visit and willingness to expand information and clarify. Great and justified pride in Romania. Thank you, Alina.

Splendid, information rich walking tour of Bucharest focusing on the Communist period. Alina, our guide was wonderful and covered a lot in 3 hours. Can recommend.

    Wonderful!

I didn’t realize I was booking a private tour and it was fabulous! Alina came to pick us up at the hotel and walked us around the city as she regaled us with stories of the communist regime. She was so knowledgeable and so attuned to any interests we might have. I very much enjoyed this tour and am so glad I decided to take part in it. It was a great learning experience but also allowed us the opportunity to see Bucharest on foot.

A considered evaluation of Communist Romania.

    Wendy_S, Sep 2019
Alina was engaging and animated. She was so keen to tell how things really were; the good, the bad and the ugly. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and leaned so much more about Romania's history and the deep complexities of Communist rule! We throughly recommend her!

This tour was so much fun! Claire was so knowledgeable and passionate about the tour, her country and the history of Romania. I have been to Bucharest four times and thought I knew the buildings but Claire pointed out the origins and the history of the building as well as life during the regime. I highly, highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in Romanian history! Claire is very easy to talk to and very open about her country. She presented facts not emotion in the tour. The tour was supposed to last 3 hours but we found ourselves talking on the streets for another half hour. It could have easily gone on. Go sign up and enjoy Claire's tour!

We had a delightful morning exploring Bucharest's communist past. Our guide was very animated, and gave us a new insight into life under communist rule. I learned a lot about the people of Bucharest during this dark time, as well as how Bucharest was irrevocably changed.

This was a wonderful way to explore the city and learn about the history of communism and what it was actually like from people to leave under this regime. We had a great experience.

This was by far the most illuminating activity in Bucharest. Clare is a wonderful guide, warm and intelligent. She gave us a personal insight into her experience of Communist-era life, as a child and as an adolescent. She told us the positive and negative sides of the experience, for her and for her family. She is full of information, and tried hard to make sure we learnt and understood as much as possible. She encouraged us to ask any question, including personal ones. She met us at our hotel and dropped us back, and made last-minute adjustments to accommodate our interests regardless of the extra time.

Tour very interesting and the person that lead the tour is very knowledgeable and passionate about Romanian history. I did recently in the past also the Nazi tour in Munich so the Communist tour was the perfect match to live both the extreme far policies in the old Europe even if the Communist tour has much more recent history considering that the '89 is in the past but not so much.

This was my favorite tour of the three that I did in Bucharest. My guide met me at my hostel, and we walked to numerous sites. She was amazing. Having grown up during Romania's Communist Era, she had personal stories to share along with the historical facts. The tour was supposed to last three hours, but we talked while walking for four and one half hours. She tries to understand herself the reasons for what happened during this time period, and she offers positive and negative perspectives about this time during Romania's history, I highly recommend that you take this tour if you are interested in learning from a local about this time period and about Romania today.

What a fab trip - our guide really knew her stuff and we walked around Bucharest listening to stories personal and national of the royal and communist eras and what they meant to the people - for and against and reasons why. Very pleased with the tour - prompt pick up and personal service

    Nostalgie nach Ceaucescu

    Franz_R, Mar 2024
Falsche historische Darstellung

    Response from Host, Mar 2024

Thank you for the review and we hope you enjoy your time in beautiful and historic Bucharest.

passeggiata interessante in centro a Bucarest sotto una fitta nevicata sulle tracce del comunismo rumeno, la guida era molto preparata e trasmetteva passione per il suo lavoro e per la Romania. brava, grazie di tutto.
