Itinerary

Cruise around medieval Bologna in 21st-century fashion: on a Segway. This small-group guided tour of Bologna is the perfect way to see one of Italy’s most beautiful big cities, ideal for the first time visitor or the seasoned traveler.

Begin the tour with a 30-minute instructional on how the Segway works and learn about the itinerary of the tour you’re about to partake in. Try out the Segway before hitting the streets. And once you’re comfortable on it, begin the tour with your guide and small group.

Ride over to Piazza Minghetti, named after the popular 18th-century Bolognese politician Marco Minghetti, and linger here for a short time learning about the history of the space from the guide. Hear intriguing historical anecdotes about the city. And gawk at the ancient buildings that surround the square. Then ride over to Santo Stefano district, via the charming street Via De’ Toschi. Here, stop in front of the Basilica di Santo Stefano and learn about the history of the place.

Continue to ride on with your small-group, following your guide the entire time. Head to the heart of the city, the spot of the two tall medieval towers, an iconic symbol of this university city. Learn from your guide what made one of the towers lean. And then ride to nearby Piazza del Nettuno, the city’s main square, where you’ll learn all about the Fountain of Neptune, before returning again to Piazza XX Settembre, where the tour concludes.

Segway Adventure with Bologna as a Backdrop!

We have taken numerous Segway tours throughout North America. When we learned that one was available during our recent visit to Bologna, we enthusiastically signed up. I am so pleased that we did so. This was our top-rated Segway experience! Our tour was capably led by Humberto. He was in front of our procession, clearing the way. Having a leader dedicated to making certain that our path was open is something we have not experienced during a Segway tour. Typically, the guide has lead and narrated simultaneously. We enjoyed this feature. Humberto also took several photos of us at various places. With Humberto out front, Tamara provided a delightful description all along the way. Several times we stopped and explored a location up-close. Tamara had wonderful insight to the history, people and food of Bologna. Together, they were a great team. Tamara, thank you for your recommendations. We happily completed our assignments! I should also mention how fun it is to glide on a Segway. I believe it is easier than riding a bicycle. If you have any hesitancy, put it aside. I highly recommend this tour.

Disappointing

We had an experienced Italian guide leading us with an English-speaking guide to provide the tour information. The English guide was very chatty but actually didn't give a lot of useful information. She also seemed to be quite an inexperienced segway rider, didn't keep at the back as promised to ensure that nobody was left behind, and she actually caused an accident at the very end of the tour where my friend was knocked off her segway. We're both experienced segway riders and have done several segway tours before in Europe and USA, and we felt let down by the quality of this one in Bologna. We had been forced to move onto a different day/time to join another tour group because CST wouldn't run the tour for just 2 of us. In fact they had tried from the time of booking well in advance to get us to "upgrade" to a private tour by doubling the price. It really wasn't worth the money, and the tour operator wasn't of the usual standard that we normally experience with Viator.

Fun in Bologna

A great fun tour around all the key sights of Bologna with a really great tour guide Andrea. We saw far more of the city than we'd have done on foot and the Segway is a really fun way to get around.

We had a great time traveling around Bologna on the Segways. You get 5 minutes of instruction - not 30 as advertised but it was fine. There are a lot of historical sites that are much easier to see this way rather than walk, especially in the heat. Our guide was knowledgable.

Eine sehr schöne und vor allem informative Führung durch die Stadt. Die Tour mit dem Segway war sehr angenehm bei den bereits hohen sommerlichen Temperaturen in der Stadt. Man fuhr ohne Mühe und zügig zu den wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten. Tolles Konzept und sehr zu empfehlen!
