Expertly led art workshop

I was very impressed both by the artist who led this workshop and by the gallery (OCIO) where it was hosted. The workshop started with a chance to explore the gallery, which is full of amazing prints by an array of Colombian artists. They also sell a line of printed clothing - really interesting work, and a chance to take home an exceptional souvenir. (If you don't take the workshop, you could still have a super visit to the gallery, which is close to the La Perseverancia Market and lots of eating options.) The grafitti workshop took place in a courtyard behind the building, with walls covered by experiments and tags by past participants. Cali (known professionally as TET, with works on walls around Bogota) taught us how to use the spray cans properly, and got us started with simple exercises - creating dots, lines, spirals - and working our way up to creating a tag. He gave lots of ideas and pointers, and helped us plan our project on paper before choosing colours and heading to the wall to carry it out. He coached us as we worked, and helped shape the finished tag so it really popped! There were a couple of hitches with our participation. One was that too many of the cans were empty or near-empty, which was frustrating and meant that the colour choice was limited. The other was that we shared the workshop with two families (travelling together) where the moms kinda checked out, the dads just wanted to paint their names, and the kids (four of them, all 8 or younger at a guess) basically ran amok. No blame to Cali! And of course the organizers can't possibly know how people are going to behave. As an adult experience, this would have been an amazing art workshop, a hands-on chance to encounter Bogota's grafitti culture. It was rather spoiled for us - but I'm still happy to recommend it. The experience was well-thought out and expertly led.

We came here with our family and had a great time. Diego was a great guide and interactive with the kids. We had two hours of time to do art and learn about graffiti in Bogotà!
