What To Expect
On arrival at the jewelry-making studio, you’ll get to know your guide and listen to an introduction that details the importance of emeralds in Colombia—which supplies 90% of the emeralds in the world.
After delving deeper into pre-colonial history and Colombian culture, you’ll start work on your bespoke ring. Choose your emerald after learning about the different qualities and minerals of each precious stone on offer, and then decide on your design, stone shape, and material.
Then, your personal *orfebre* (jewelry master) will guide you through each stage of the process. Once your ring is ready, you can pose for photographs wearing your new favorite piece.

What a great and unique experience! We were met on time and got a bit of history and info on the Emerald trade in Columbia as well as the importance of the stones in their traditional culture.
After a short walk we arrived at the workshop and got busy designing and making our rings. When they say make, they mean it. Melt the silver, roll the bar out flat, create the circle, solder the ring closed, polish the ring, set the stone and polish the final product. At every step you are doing the work with guidance and coaching.
I was skeptical, when I signed up for this experience, that I would be dying much more than choosing a design and watch/"helping" with to creation. I was completly wrong and loved the experience. I would do this again if I were in the area on a future trip.

Favorite experience in Columbia. I wear my ring daily and get so many compliments on it. Fun story to say we made our own rings!! 10 year old loved it. It fits his thumb now and can grow into it.

I totally recommend this If you love rings and are in Bogota, our tour guide and the Masters at the jewelry store were patient, knowledgeable and friendly. We started the day at the meeting point (we grabbed a coffee there while waiting for the rest of the group).
We had a great time making our very own rings, which we will cherish forever as we laboured over it <3 You have the option to choose higher value emeralds or additional emeralds (and pay the difference) for your ring.
My sister wasn't satisfied with her ring and we returned and the Master kindly altered it for her <3

This was so fun! First, Nick is an amazing guide. He is so knowledgeable, and fun to learn from. He is so interactive and passionate about everything it is hard not to have anything but fun with him as a guide. The actual ring making experience was so cool. Carlos and his team were so gracious and fun to have this hands on experience. I love my ring and haven’t taken it off since the experience!

Super fun experience. Guid meets you and gives you tons of knowledge with perfect English.
Then after about 30 min they take you to a jewelry manufacturer. Where 3 very nice employees help you make a ring of your own design.. I was shocked how amazing my ring came out.

The experience itself was great, we really enjoyed making our own rings and it created a lovely memory for us in Bogota as the city was more of a stop gap. We paid more for bigger emeralds but my husbands emerald was cracked upon setting when the pressure would have been added - as said by our host. After we left the shop we noticed a crack when inspecting the ring but thought it was an occlusion because it was quite obvious to us, so it would have been obvious to them. The emerald broke just days later. When getting in touch with our host they were really apologetic and tried to give us lots of different options for us to get the ring back to the shop for the emerald to be replaced but it just didn't work for us as we are moving often around Colombia. Instead we went to a bunch of shops in Cartagena to try and get the best price for replacing the emerald which cost us $200. It's a shame because as professionals, they would have noticed the crack and so it should have been redone. It was disappointing that we had to end up paying an extra $200 for a ring we already paid for and think that a part refund should have been offered.
That said, we really enjoyed the experience. The host was super accommodating as we were running late to the class due to a delayed flight and as said, he tried to make it right but trying to get the ring back to the shop.

Hello, I am truly sorry that the multiple solutions we offered for the repair and emerald replacement did not meet your expectations.
I would like to clarify that the stone did not crack during the setting process; if an emerald is already damaged, it is impossible to mount as it would shatter completely under the jeweler's tools. The emerald you selected, like all natural emeralds, features inclusions, which are natural internal lines and characteristics unique to the gem.
While the stone may have cracked later due to various external factors, we want to emphasize that we made every effort to provide alternatives and work professionally. Since you finally told us everything was fine, we are saddened to learn of your dissatisfaction through this review. We would have loved the opportunity to ensure you were completely ok with this or even open to listen and attend to your requests.

Great experience for solo or for whole family, even kids!! Staff is very friendly and attentive! Worth every penny!!! You get to design, make from scratch, create totally personalized beautiful piece of one of a kind ring for yourself or your loved one ( if making the ring for someone who is not there—know their ring size ahead of time). We had a 14 year old boy with us who totally loved the process and his final product. He made a manly ring and loved wearing it. Our Tour guide Nick was very friendly, knowledgeable and informative. The staff in the jewelry making shop was very friendly, helpful, patient, true artesian, the last of a kind in their trade. You get to pick the design and the emerald you like. The small stone is included in your tour price but if you want a bigger stone or multiple stones, they offer it to you for the extra cost for a very reasonable prices. It could be a really great experience for a newly wed, married couple or whole family. They also offer optional engraving for a small cost. This is truly the best tour/ experience in Bogota. Don’t miss it!!

Super cool experience to learn about jewelry making and that you get to be a part of the process. The included emeralds are very small, so that was disappointing. If you want multiple or a bigger stone, you have to pay a difference and the price get steep quickly! In my opinion the emeralds were very, very expensive and not with the hundreds of dollars price tag (I’ve seen Colombian emeralds for much less at home in stores, markets, and gem shows) Ultimately I enjoyed the ring I made but would have preferred something more substantial given the $120 price tag. Maybe if it included entry into the Gold museum (your meeting place is right across the street), it would be a fuller experience and justify the cost? In any event, I highly recommend this unique experience- just be prepared to either spend a lot more for a bigger stone, or be happy with a tiny piece.

We prioritize providing emeralds of superior quality, focusing on better color, cut and clarity, rather than simply offering a larger stone with poor characteristics.
A ring like the one you made in any shop has a similar price, but in this case, you are the one making it and having an unique experience

We met our guide next to a bakery right by the Gold Museum. It was nice he gave us a tour where the Emerald history and outdoor sales occur before we started our jewelry making.
The guys helping us make a ring were fantastic! There were about 6 of us in a room with 2 experts plus our guide and we each had a lot of help melting down the metal and shaping the ring. Note, you can choose to upgrade/add additional emeralds ranging from $30-$120 USD.
Pro-tip: pick out a design first, our guide showed us pictures from their IG account.
The ring turned out much better than I anticipated! Great unique souvenir that showcases the amazing significance of Colombian's gem.

Juan shared a lot of fascinating information about Colombian emeralds. The masters leading the workshop were patient and very helpful. My husband made a pendant, and I created a ring. We chose a slightly larger emerald for an additional cost, which was totally worth it. We highly recommend this workshop – a wonderful souvenir and an unforgettable experience!

This was a unique and gratifying experience. Our guide and the jeweler were absolutely wonderful. We actually substantially created our own emerald rings. It was informative and a very satisfying experience to know you created this piece of jewelry. We opted to pay a bit more for bigger stones. I did not incorporate the stone that was included in the price of the tour but they carefully wrapped it for me to take home. I highly recommend this activity.

Very special. Before getting started Juan, the host, shares a little about the history of special metals in Muisca (local indigenous peoples’) history and how that translates to Colombia’s jewelry practices today. We walked through the emerald trade district to the workshop. Everyone gets to pick their own small emerald or upgrade if you wish, and work in silver or upgrade to gold if you wish. I like that they cap the group so it isn’t overcrowded. It’s certainly not a lesson where you are developing competency at the skill of jewelry making, rather playing around and the master jewelers really help to get the pieces looking great. They were friendly and helpful/willing to guide me as I am interested in making jewlery locally. Really great activity to do solo or with friends, family, partner, etc.

I had the best time! When they say you make your own ring they mean it! From design, to melting the metal, forming it, soldering, hammering, and polishing. Juan was a phenomenal guide/teacher as were the master jewellers, shout to you Master Carlos! In this tour you also learn about the history of gold and emeralds in Colombia. A wonderful learning opportunity and the best souvenir to take home!

This was a very unique experience. We were guided through the process of creating our own ring by experts, who helped only with the very technical bits (like setting the stone). Everyone was so helpful and encouraging. My teenage daughter and I lived this experience and came away with two very beautiful rings! I really enjoyed this activity! It starts with a short walk around the neighborhood discussing the history of emeralds in Colombia, before heading into the jewelry shop. Once inside, you pick your own emerald, show the design you want to the skilled workers, and they help you make exactly what you want! (within reason. Someone in our group wanted an overly intricate design, and they were not able to accommodate that in the limited hours). It is very hands on, so be prepared for that, and that it is a working jewelry shop, with other craftsmen working on other designs at the same time as you. They do offer other emeralds that are larger or higher quality for an additional cost, but they are not pushy at all about it. The shop is hot, sometimes loud, but very fun. And the end result is by far the coolest souvenir I've ever had from a trip: an emerald ring that I made myself from scratch! The workers are all very friendly and funny, and are happy to help if you have any questions, though do expect to do most of the work yourself! They treat you like adults, but are quick to help fix any mistakes you may make along the way. Highly recommend this experience if it seems at all interesting!

Very grateful for this tour! Nick R. Was understanding and very helpful as i was moving from one tour to this one and accommodated my needs on the spot. The actual experience is step by step with the help of two master Jewelers, Nick and others. I had a design concept before i came and they helped me make sure it was possible. My purpose for my short trip was to come and make a ring. I learned so much and have a beautiful ring to show for it.
