Discover one of Spain’s iconic wine regions without any concerns about drinking and driving on this intimate tour of the Rioja area from Bilbao. You and your group of maximum seven travelers will tour three wineries, tasting several wines in each plus olive oil, chorizo, bread and cheese. My partner and I booked a one-day Rioja tour from Bilbao, and it was absolutely perfect. Our guide, Irene, was not only super knowledgeable about Basque culture, but also engaging and fun. The group was small and friendly, with just six people, which made the experience feel personal. The wineries were fantastic—not commercial at all, but real hidden gems. The whole trip was comfortable, well-paced, and a perfect little getaway. Would definitely recommend to everyone coming to Bilbao!

Our guide Irene picked us up when and where we expected, and we joined two other couples for the day. Irene is certainly one of the best guides we have had, anywhere. She was fun, entertaining, knowledgeable, a good communicator and very well organized. The itinerary was perfect. From the beautiful drive to the Ebro Valley, to three winery experiences, scenic overlooks, a stroll through LaGuardia, stops at the spectacular architectural highlights and a sleepy return to Bilbao after enjoying outstanding wine. I don’t know how the day could have been any better.

While the tour guide was great and very knowledgeable, the price was too high for the experience. Only one of the three wineries offered a tour of the facility. The other two were tastings so it could have been done in a nice restaurant as opposed to a ride out to the country. I’ve been on other tours in Spain and we actually toured the wine making process at multiple wineries. It just makes it more meaningful to see it, discuss it, understand what goes into it. Especially at that price. We went to LaGuardia, which was beautiful, but the drinks there were not included. So the value for the money came up short compared to other experiences I’ve had in Spain and other countries.

The whole day was amazing . We really enjoyed seeing the three different wineries and learning about their wine . Olila was a fantastic guide , she made the whole day so enjoyable .
Seeing the walled city was fun just a shame the weather was not so good or else the views would have been wonderful .

We had a fabulous day! Enjoyed the drive, the wineries, the wine and food! Especially enjoyed a surprise visit to a small town in Rioja. It is one of the most charming places we’ve seen on our trip. Had fun having lunch on one of the small streets. We ordered way too much wine and drank way too much wine… A little bit of sleeping went on on the drive back!

The drive to the Rioja Valley was well worth the trip. Once we arrived the weather was perfect and the tour started with a winery called Amerin. It was a full tour about the process of making their wines. The winery I enjoyed the most was from Valserrano. My husband and I enjoyed our tour guide Irene who was full of energy and very proud of being from Basque.

We had a fantastic trip with Jani, who was a super engaging and knowledgeable guide. She introduced us to the culture and history of the regions we passed through, and to passionate and talented winemakers at three smaller estates in Rioja Alavesa. Samples of both wine and the accompanying food were generous and delicious, and we picked up a few bottles at each place.

This basque country wine trip is not to be missed. Our guide , Zack was friendly , knowledgeable and outstanding as our tour guide. We visited three wineries of stellar quality. The first stop was in a unique village . The winery tour took us deep into ancient caves where we saw a group of rare wines in a niche dating from 1892 to 1926.
There was a lot of history presented by the charming local tour guide including a story of Ernest Hemingway visiting this sight many times. The wines were reasonably priced and of good quality accompanied by cheeses and chocolate.
We visited two other wineries and then ended our tour with pintxos in the quaint mountain top village of LaGuardia with stunning views of the valley below.
We also stopped to take photos of the Frank Gehry designed hotel.
We shared our tour with two others ... newlyweds ...so fun.
You will not regret booking this tour with Zack.

Our tour turned out to be a private one with Jani and Gorka. Jani was so knowledgeable, nice and just an incredible person all around. The three bodegas we went to were all unique and all of the wine we sampled was incredible (we shipped some boxes home). The tour ended in a nice town (Laguardia) for some pintxos before heading back to Bilbao. I could not recommend this tour enough as it was one of the highlights of our trip. Amazing day spent exploring La Rioja! Jani was our wonderful tour guide and teacher. She is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of the Basque Country and well versed in the La Rioja history and wine production practices. We had the most incredible experience with Zach exploring the Rioja Alavesa region! Zach introduced us to three phenomenal family-owned wineries, each steeped in rich history of winemaking. Walking through the medieval town of Laguardia, dating back to the 10th century, was a true step back in time. The vistas of the stunning mountain ranges bordering the valley were absolutely breathtaking. Zach's knowledge and passion for the area made the day truly unforgettable. This was a great tour, Jani was such a FABULOUS guide and very knowledgeable! From start to finish she prepped us with what to expect at each visit and what the different bottle labels meant. We visited 3 wineries and all though slightly different, were equally excellent. All the tour guides at these wineries were also enthusiastic about informing us of their particular wines. The vineyards that we visited were amazing, especially one with an extensive network of underground callers. Zach was very knowledgeable and considerate, and we could not have asked for a better guide!
