Superb Day Trip from Beijing

We went on this day trip tour. Our guide Peter was prompt in picking us up from the hotel. His service was impeccable and he was polite, patient and very communicative. The tour is highly recommended especially for the Simatai great wall climb.

The tour guide will drive you from the town and help you buy your tickets 1) to the town 2) a one-way bus trip to the wall (you walk back through the town) and 3) to the chairlift. It was around 600 Yuan for myself and senior father for those three things. Attended on a weekend before the spring festival and the town was sleepy which meant no crowds and lots of chances to take photos with amazing backdrops. On the flip side, most stores/restaurants were not open before 2pm. From what I gathered, this place 'comes alive' in the evening. As for the wall itself, the chairlift brings you up mostly to the top. You still have 15-20 mins of a steep stairs climb to the wall and then the time you spend on the wall itself will depend on the time you want to dedicate there vs. the town, your legs, and your fear of wind/heights. The stairs are uneven and will take some agility to get from one tower to the next, especially the ones with a ladder.

Great day trip from Beijing to cover the Simatai Great Wall and Gubei Water Town, and the driver Peter Wu was very helpful and accommodating. One thing to note (which wasn't clear at the time I booked) is that entry fees aren't included in the price, so budget an additional CNY 300 per person

Truly magnificient, although challenging climbing up the rugged terrain of Simatai Great Wall. Also, enjoy walking the scenic Gubei Water Town. Highly recommend to stay a night to see the light up of the Great Wall and Gubei Water Town. Peter Wu, the driver, provided 5 stars services. He picks us from our hotel on time, helped us to purchase the entrance and cable car tickets, shared some insight of the Great Wall, and had waited patiently for us to complete our free and easy tour with no rush. Peter also recommended us a lunch place inside the Gubei Water Town to taste the local fresh water fish, which is super. Shout out to Peter. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
